UAG teases new straps for Apple Watch

NEWS – UAG (aka: Urban Armor Gear) is well known for making ruggedized cases for your devices that ensure they survive everything you put them through. Well it appears that UAG is now looking at how they might apply their brand to accessories for Apple Watch as you might have guessed from the above photo.

This care package arrived at my doorstep last week sporting two different straps.

Here’s a closer look. The leather strap is a soft leather in a warm cocoa color with some internal padding and beefed up hardware that has that survivalist vibe. The snap in the second strap keeper and the debossed UAG logos are nice touches.

The nylon strap is a grey camo pattern with bolder sewn-in labels, sturdy lugs the same width as the watch itself and a big pivot link for easily securing your watch with the velcro strap.

There’s no mention of these mysterious straps on UAG’s site yet, so if you’re interested and want to find out more, hit the site up regularly or let us know in the comments and we’ll pass it along. – Cheers!

Jollylook is an instant camera that looks vintage and is made of cardboard

NEWS – Camera and photography buffs will find the Jollylook Mini Camera interesting if only for the way it looks and what it’s made of. It looks like an old-timey box camera from decades gone by, but it’s made of cardboard and it can be used with Fuji Instax mini film.

Just load in the film cassette, open the lid, pull out the bellows, to set the focal length, set the aperture, and snap the pic. Then you use the crank to eject the photo which will “develop” in front of your eyes. Check out this quick video which shows the whole process.

Looks fun right? You can buy one for $69 from jollylook.photo where you can also find accessories for the camera like a strap, filters, tripod attachment plate, and more.

Chameleon Fineliners will take your drawings to the next level

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Doodlers and artists will be interested in this new Kickstarter project for Chameleon Fineliners color blending pens that just launched earlier today.

What is it?

Chameleon Fineliners are pens that blend 2 or more colors instantly just by placing the cap from one color on another pen’s tip for a few seconds.

Why do I like it?

First of all, the color blending is quick and easy. The way it works is that there is water-safe ink in the pen AND in the cap. So you take the cap off one color and place that cap over another pen’s tip for 1 – 10 seconds. When you remove the cap, you can start drawing. First, the color will be the color from the cap that was placed over the pen’s tip. But after several strokes (depending on how long you left the cap on) the color will start blending into the original color for a very cool and seamless effect.

If you leave the cap off even for several hours, the pen won’t dry up. And besides being a very cool way to easily add unique color to your journals, artwork, etc, the pens are available in 48 different colors, can write more than 32,000 inches each, and have a Japanese 0.3mm metal clad tip so your doodles and artwork will look sharp and crisp.

Where can I find more info?

The Chameleon Fineliners campaign ends on 6/11/19 they have already surpassed their funding goal of $20,000. You can pre-order a set of 12 Chameleon Fineliners starting at $14. After the Chameleon campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Level up your DIY game with LumiLevel

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Are you a DIYer that needs to keep things on the level?  This can mean hanging things, building things, installing plumbing lines and so on.  Lots of things are simply better if they are straight side-to-side or up-down.  Kickstarter project LumiLevel looks to level up your game with their new digital level.

Rather than using typical bubble tubes to determine if your picture on the wall with look good, or have people tilting their heads, LumiLevel uses a series of  25 lights that provide a level indicator ten times wider than a bubble level. This improves visibility from the side and since it produces light, in poor lighting conditions.

Each light represents 2°, allowing for precise leveling.  In addition, once you get to the middle light, the unit switches to micro measurements, giving you 1/100th of a degree accuracy.

The level operates in both horizontal and vertical orientation and switches automatically when you reorient the level.

If you are working on plumbing, the level is preprogrammed with EZ-Pitch slopes for 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ per foot slopes. The concave top side of the level fits perfectly on pipes to help in level alignment.

Other features include magnets on one edge for attaching to steel framing, gesture control, like shaking to turn on all lights for use as a flashlight and tilting back and forth to enable sound leveling assistance.

The project was funded in only 36 hours and as of this writing, has raised, $13,469 of their $3,724 goal. The numbers are not in even amounts as this is a Canadian project and Kickstarter converted to US dollars.

Rewards start at CA$49 for a 12″ LumiLevel, CA$59 for a 24″ LumiLevel and CA$99 for a duo-pack with one 12″ and one 24″ LumiLevel.

The campaign is scheduled to end on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at 10:15 PM EDT with rewards scheduled to ship to backers in October 2019. For more information, and to watch a video demoing its features, visit their campaign on Kickstarter.
