Get your wine on with Carivino

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Do you like wine?  Do you like to take wine with you and try to keep it cold? Do you like aerating your wine to improve the flavor? Carivino has created an innovative solution that handles all those things and also includes wine glasses and a corkscrew for good measure.

Carivino is a portable, steel, insulated, full-sized 750ml wine bottle.  It has a wide, oversized mouth that allows you to pour in an entire bottle of wine without using a funnel.

The bottle is triple-layer vacuum insulated. That should help keep your wine at the perfect temperature for hours. The ceramic lining makes is simple to wash out with soap and water. The other benefit of the ceramic lining is that unlike metal, ceramic will not introduce any flavor, keeping the tase of your wine pure.

When the time comes to enjoy your wine. Carivino includes a venturi aerator in the pour spout. Aerators add air into your wine to help improve the flavor. Two Tritan plastic wine glasses are stored in the base.  The wine glasses can be used as tumblers, or as wine stems with the included magnetic stems. A cork pull is also included, so you will always be able to get your wine from the bottle into your Carivino for your next picnic.

Carivino’s Kickstarter campaign is funded at just shy of $40,000 on their $10,000 funding goal. The funding period ends on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, 8:00 AM EDT.  Reward options start at $70 for one Carivino.  First shipments to backers are expected in August 2019. For more information, visit their Kickstarter campaign here.

eto is the newest device to help keep your wine fresh

NEWS – Have you ever wanted to crack open a bottle of wine, only to hesitate because you’re the only one who likes reds and doesn’t want to spoil the whole bottle? It happens regularly in our house, as one of us prefers reds, while the other prefers whites. I stumbled upon a Kickstarter for “eto: a beautiful innovation in wine preservation.”

This decanter opens the flavors of the wine while the preserver keeps the most dangerous wine enemy, air, from contacting the surface of the wine once sealed and keeps it fresh for up to 7 days. The eto is designed for wine enthusiasts who don’t necessarily drink an entire bottle in one sitting, or who want to savor their bottle throughout the week.

The eto Kickstarter has reached full funding and orders are currently shipping. However, you can still order eto via Indiegogo. Options include either the copper or stainless steel finish at a price point of $96-$109 USD each with a discount if you order multiple units. Note that units aren’t due to ship until July.

Aircork The Wine Preserver is an ingenious way of maintaining your wine’s flavor and aroma

NEWS – When my wife and I enjoy a bottle of wine and we don’t finish the bottle right away, it would be nice to have a better way of preserving the flavors and aromas of that elegant beverage than a mere cork or even a stopper, neither of which will effectively prevent the air trapped in the bottle allowing the oxidation process to break down wine and cause its taste and scent to deteriorate.   This is where Aircork The Wine Preserver comes in.  It’s a device that seals the remaining wine in the bottle from the outside air, preserving the initial flavors and aromas.  Aircork works by placing its deflated balloon inside of a partially-empty bottle of wine, then squeezing the pump, which inflates the bladder and seals the wine off from ambient air and its wine-attacking oxygen.  The inflated bladder seals tightly enough that the bottle can be turned upside down without leaking.  To pour more wine from the bottle, open the release valve a bit to deflate the bladder.   Aircork The Wine Preserver is available in Burgundy, White, Charcoal, or Barrel Shape  (Charcoal) pumps, each for $25.95.  Visit aircork.com for more information or to order.

Remove the chemicals that cause headaches and congestion from wine

NEWS – Do you suffer from headaches, sinus congestion, and red cheeks when you drink wine?  If so, you may be sensitive to the histamines and sulfites that are found in wine.  The PureWine wand filter could remove these chemicals without adversely affecting the flavor, taste, or aroma of the wine, so you can enjoy a glass without suffering the nasty side effects.  And the PureWine filter is the only one on the market that can remove both sulfites and histamines.

The PureWine filter is made of polypropylene and cellulose fabric, with nanopore beads for filtering.  The wands are food-safe and BPA-free.  To filter, place the PureWine wand into a 6-8 ounce glass of wine and swirl.  Leave it in the glass for 3-8 minutes, then dispose of the single-use wand.  Each wand is individually wrapped, so you can keep a couple in your bag for use in restaurants or at parties.

A package of 10 single-use filters is available for $19.95; a 30-pack is $54.95.  You may purchase the PureWine wand filters at The Grommet.

The cure for the common wine fridge

NEWS – If your home lacks room for a wine cellar but you want something a little nicer than the common wine fridge, look at the Sand & Birch Opale wine cellar.  This piece is as much of a modern-art sculpture as it is a wine fridge.  Sand & Birch tells us the Opale evokes “a precious black stone wedged and gem-setted in a white, smooth base that enhances the equilibrium and purity of its design, creating a contrast that emphasize the elegant break between the elliptical shape of its vertical body and the roundness of its foothold.”

In more practical terms, the body of the Opale is made of metal and hard polyurethane with an insulating smoked glass door.  Its self-regulating controls maintains perfect conditions for red, white, and sparkling wines.  The automatic door opens with a remote control or by touch.  It stands about 83 inches high and 22 inches deep, with a base that’s about 53″ wide.  Opale holds about 60 bottles of wine.  The interior is lighted with LEDs.

If you want this beautiful wine cellar, you need to be prepared for a price that’s more expected for a sculpture.  The Sand & Birch Opale wine cellar is $35,000.00 at Saatchi Art.
