The Ecoflow RIVER Bank provides power off the grid and right in the palm of your hand

NEWS – As photographers and filmmakers, we always want and need to “push the envelope” to get the next photo or footage that is better than anything we previously shot. In many cases, we seek locations that are “off the grid” and away from any power source. These locations usually offer scenery and beauty that would even captivate some of the most disinterested people.

The problem that we constantly face, is trying to carry all of the equipment that we think we would need and having the ability to power and recharge much of it.

Enter the RIVER Bank power module. According to the manufacturer, the main module coupled with one of their stackable booster modules can provide an impressive number of charges as well as useful continuous power. The main module comes with a 99.16Wh battery, 2 USB ports, 2 USB-C ports and a QI wireless charging pad. Depending on with booster module you pair it with, you can add even greater capabilities. The Car Booster module adds an additional 44.4Wh along with a USB-C port and a Jump Start port. The AC Booster adds an additional 99.16Wh, a USB-C port, and a 100W AC port. The charging capabilities include charging a laptop 2 to 4 times, a cell phone 18 to 30 times, jump-starting a car up to 10 times, running a projector for over 5 hours, etc.

The River Bank module seems to be a really innovative device and if the specifications are true, it would be a great asset in the field. If you are interested in purchasing one, you can pre-order on the Ecoflow website. The main module sells for $199 and the additional modules for $295 each, with a bundle package of all 3 available for $390.

The Beyond Ink Pen merges cutting-edge technology with a luxury ballpoint pen

NEWS – When you think of technology, you probably don’t think ballpoint pens. That is up until now. The Beyond Ink Pen will make you rethink the way you look at ballpoint pens.

As you may have guessed the Beyond Ink Pen isn’t your run of the mill ballpoint pen. Yes, it’s a luxurious pen made of brass and stainless steel that uses a high-end Lamy ballpoint pen tip for clear and attractive writing, but that’s where the similarities between it and a typical ballpoint pen end.

The Beyond Ink Pen is a multi-functional smartpen that contains all the features you need in a typical workday, right at your fingertips.

You can use it as a normal ballpoint pen for writing on paper or can switch it in seconds to a state-of-the-art stylus tip, for use on tablets and touchscreens.

A  built-in 1,000mAh battery and nicely concealed Lightning Cable allow you to charge your iPhone on-the-go. There’s also a model for Android users that replaces the Lightning cable with a Micro USB cable.

Last, but certainly not least, the top of the pen comes off revealing a built-in USB flash drive that has 16GB of memory storage.

The Beyond Ink Pen is available in Android or IOS models in your choice of black or white.

It sells for $79.95 and is available on Amazon.

Google brings texting to your desktop with Android Messages

NEWS – About 5 years ago ( 🙂 ) I wrote a news item on Mightytext, a neat utility that allowed you to send and receive texts on your desktop. I’ve been using this pretty much every day since.  Well, finally Google has come up with their own version otherwise known as Google Android Messages.  Like Mightytext you can open a browser window and send and receive texts (SMS) to and from your desktop as well as making it easy to send media such as pictures and video (MMS).

Google Android Messages also incorporates smart replies, handy when you’re busy and on the move.   This now replaces Textra and Mighty Text on my phone, two daily used apps. Both the phone and desktop interfaces look good and are easy to use. Worth checking out, especially if you do a lot of SMS/MMS.  It also supports chat (RCS) but that’s no use to me (and let’s face it Google’s messaging strategy has been a bit fragmented to say the least).

Finally, a spiral-bound notebook lefties will love

NEWS – As the mother of a left-handed daughter, I’ve listened to years of complaints about regular ring binders and spiral notebooks.  The rings or the spiral gets in the way of her writing, making taking notes uncomfortable.  Especially in the earlier years, she had to have a spiral-bound notebook for each of her classes, so she was stuck using the notebooks she hated.

A couple of years ago, I found some top-bound spiral notebooks with college-ruled notebook paper inside.  She could finally use a notebook easily without the rings or spiral getting in her way.  Amazon has the Mead Cambridge top-bound notebooks for sale now.  The books are filled with 8.5″ x 11″ college-ruled, 20 lb. white paper, with 70 perforated sheets (140 pages) per pad.  The overall size is 8.55″ x 12.62″.  The notebook has a heavy-duty front cover and a stiff cardboard back for a sturdy writing surface even without a desk.

Amazon makes the Mead Cambridge top-bound notebooks available for $2.45 as an add-on to a purchase of at least $25.00.  If you need wide-ruled pages, Amazon offers a set of four wide-ruled, top-bound notebooks for $15.00.  See both options of the Mead Cambridge top-bound spiral notebooks at Amazon.
