IKEA introduces their Eneby Bluetooth speakers

IKEA is known for assemble-it-yourself furniture and home furnishings.  Although they do have some tables and lamps with built-in wireless charging pads, they aren’t really known for electronics.  However, they just expanded their electronics offerings by issuing two Bluetooth speakers called Eneby.

The larger Eneby, which is 12″ x 12″ and 4″ thick, can be set on a table or hung on the wall.  It’s also the perfect size to fit in one of the partitions of their Kallax shelving units.  The knob on the front is used to power the speaker on/off and to “intuitively adjust the bass, treble or volume.”

The smaller Eneby, which is 8″ x 8″ and 3″ thick, can also be set on a table or hung on the wall.  It also has a carry handle and can be used as a portable speaker with the addition of an optional battery pack.

There’s a stand that can be added to either size of the Eneby.  The stand lifts and angles the speaker to direct the sound toward the listener.

The Eneby speakers are available in black or white.  The 12″ x 12″ size is $89.00, the 8″ x 8″ size is $49.00, the optional battery is $20.00, and the optional stand is $10.00.  The Eneby Bluetooth speakers and accessories are available at IKEA.

Alto slim minimalist wallets review

What images come to mind when you think about minimalist wallets? Maybe a classic binder clip that holds a few credit cards and some cash? Or maybe a really thin traditional style wallet that is made of sail cloth? How about a handmade wood, carbon fiber, or aluminum wallet that can hold cash and cards while remaining sleek and stylish? That describes Alto Wallets. Let’s take a look.

What is it?

The Alto Wallet is a minimalist wallet that is available in three verisons: black aluminum, walnut or mahogany wood, or carbon fiber. The wallets are made by hand by the Alto brothers from Canada.

Design and features

I was sent one of each of the Alto wallets which you can see in the image above. The black aluminum version is on the left, the walnut is in the center, and the carbon fiber Alto is on the right.

Each wallet has a steel money clip on one side along with the alto brand in the bottom left corner.

And on the opposite side is a durable nitrile band that can be used to hold your credit cards. The bands are replaceable and each wallet comes with 2 extra bands of different colors so you can customize the look of your wallet.

The Alto wallet making process has several steps which include (depending on the material used) vacuum bonding, CNC cutting, laser cutting, CNC milling, bead blasting, anodizing, and sanding by hand.

The resulting wallet is very well made and is thin but strong. There are no screws, seams, or moving parts.

The nitrile band allows you to securely carry about 1-5 standard sized plastic credit cards. To remove a card, you just slide the stack out from under the bands. I found it a little awkward to do at first, but as I used the wallet for several days it because easier to do.

Cash can be inserted beneath the steel money clip. I found the clip to be really tight even when sliding only a few folded bills.

You can fold the cash in half or twice for a more compact look. Either way, it takes a little practice to side the bills under the tight clip without tearing them. According to the Alto brothers, the clip will loosen slightly after a short break-in period.

What I like

  • Well made
  • Can hold both cash and credit cards
  • 3 styles

What needs to be improved

  • Expensive
  • Can take some effort and practice learning to access cash and cards due to the tightness of the band and clip.

Final thoughts

I really like the look and feel of the Alto Wallets. They are well made and I found no defects, burrs, sharp edges, or other workmanship issues.

I think the wallets are better suited for minimalist guys who have strong hands that can easily insert/remove the cash and cards from the bands and clip. Using the wallets was a little tough for me, so I must have wimpy hands. That said, Alto wallets are made to withstand a lot of everyday wear, tear, and abuse and should stand the test of time with no problems.

Price: $55 – $99 CAD ($43.62 – $78.51 US)

Travel fearlessly on foot with WINPE’s invisible shoes

Walking across hot, cold, rough, or slippery surfaces like parking lots, theme parks, and scalding beaches don’t have to be uncomfortable anymore. Invisible sticker shoes can save your soles.

Invisible shoes are essentially padded stickers that shape to the size of your feet, taking the role of a sole on the bottom of a shoe. Easily applied to clean feet and even easier to remove; they will come in handy during a plethora of situations. Once applied, they can only be used once, but they are made from a specific hypoallergenic certified adhesive that is biodegradable, so throwing them away won’t do too much harm to our Earth.

They are waterproof and non-slip, so wear them in the ocean or in the rain with no fear of stepping on sharp objects or slipping and falling.

If I’m ever stranded on an island with WINPE‘s invisible shoes, leave me there. I’ll be fine.

You’ll find these shoes for the price of $11.18 with free shipping included with Amazon Prime. Get your pair now.

WITTI BEDDI Charge alarm clock with night light and 3 USB ports review

WITTI Designs calls the BEDDI Charge “the most convenient USB Alarm Clock” – and they’re exactly right. This is a simple to use clock that doesn’t have any extra things to make it difficult to use.

What is it?

BEDDI Charge is a USB alarm clock that can charge 3 devices at once and a color changing mood light. Quite simply it’s a solution that I never even thought to look for.

What’s in the box?

  • BEDDI Charge Clock
  • Power adapter with cord
  • Quick Start Guide

Design and features

With a modern design and simple operation, the BEDDI Charge provides a dimmable clock, alarm, and a way to charge 3 USB devices, with a total of 3 amps. That alone makes it well worth the money! The alarm sound wakes you gradually by slowly increasing the alarm from a slow beeping to a more rapid and louder beeping before the designated alarm time.

The mood/night light has three modes. The first mode is warm white 100%, the second is warm white 30%, and the third is a color changing mode that gradually cycles through colors. This is quite handy when you need to get dressed without waking up anyone else.

The operation really could not be much simpler. Hold the alarm button and press the plus or minus buttons to set the alarm time. Use the plus and minus buttons alone to quickly set the time, not that you’ll be doing that much because it has a built-in battery to keep the time during a power outage. No more looking for which button is the alarm button or where it needs to be slid to in order to turn it on.

The snooze/dimmer button works just like any other clock and at it’s dimmest the clock is barely visible through the semi-mirrored front finish. The clock has four levels of brightness.

Switching between 12 hour and 24 hour time is as simple as pressing both the plus and minus buttons at the same time.

Once the time and alarm are set, it’s as simple as press one button for alarm on or off, one button for dimming the display, or one button for the light. No extra fussing around.

What I like

  • Backup Battery
  • 3 USB Ports
  • 16 million color mood/night light

What needs to be improved

  • A volume control for the alarm would be nice, sometimes you just want it to be loud so you don’t oversleep.

Final thoughts

This clock is exactly what I needed. The last thing I want to do before bed is to figure out how my clock works. Now I have another plug opening that I can plug something else into!

Price: $29.99

Vizio’s new P-Series Quantum TV produces the purest blacks and brightest brights

On Tuesday Vizio unveiled their new 2018 flagship TV, the P-Series Quantum. The 65″ P-Series Quantum 4K HDR Smart TV is billed as Vizio’s brightest TV so far, with 2,000 nits of peak brightness.

Quantum Dot technology makes this display capable of producing over one billion colors with “cinematic color intensity”.

Purest black levels

Vizio’s Active Full Array Max backlight with 192 local dimming zones produces pure deep blacks with stunning contrast.

A 240Hz effective refresh rate creates a significantly smoother, consistent and more natural picture.

The display also comes with built-in Google Chromecast, Vizio’s SmartCast OS featuring apps like Netflix, Vudu, and Prime Video and voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google enabled devices.

The updated look of the new P-series features both an immersive bezel-less screen and minimalist polished legs.

I own a 2016 P-series, and it has the best picture quality of any TV I’ve ever owned. With its 2,000 nits of peak brightness, Quantum Dots, and deeper blacks the P-Series Quantum just might be a worthy upgrade.

Vizio’s 2018 P-Series Quantum priced at $2,199 will be available later this summer.
