Carry your grill with you in this briefcase

Here in the South, barbecue is a cooked food product, usually pork.  In other areas, barbecue apparently means a process for cooking food or the equipment on which it is cooked.  (Bless their hearts!)  Apparently, today we’ll be using the second definition for the Mon Oncle barbecue briefcase from RS Barcelona.

Closed up, the Mon Oncle grill looks like a vintage, leather-wrapped briefcase.  Opened, you’ll find all the components for a tabletop grill.  The base is perforated with holes to allow the air to flow for greater cooking power and for making sure the grill itself doesn’t overheat.  Its size makes it great for using it on a balcony (if allowed at your residence) or for carrying it along on a picnic.  RS Barcelona recommends you use “coconut shell ecological charcoal for its properties: There’s no flame, it retains heat, and generates very little smoke.”

The Mon Oncle grill comes in gray, blue, green, or cream for $390.00 at the RS Barcelona website.  You’ll also find it at Amazon.  (Watch out for pricing at Amazon, though.  The gray one, sold by a third-party seller, is crazy expensive there!)

Look up in the air, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s the Heroshelf!

Here’s another gift idea for your dad or anyone else who might appreciate a super shelf for all their favorite EDC gear. It’s the Heroshelf from Animi Causa and it looks pretty fly (sorry, I couldn’t help myself…). The Heroshelf is made of metal and features an iconic silhouette of a Superman-style superhero in midflight. The whole thing is 16.73 inches long and has a flat surface large enough for a phone with some smaller items, and the ability to hold other items like keychains, a watch, etc. on the arms, legs, and cape which act like hooks. It’s priced at $49.00 from Animi Causa.

Beefer brings a High-End steakhouse right to your backyard

Usually, in order to get restaurant quality steak, you had to take a trip to your local steakhouse, not anymore. Now you can have steakhouse quality steak right in your own backyard. Beefer is a small stainless steel high heat grill that cooks at a whopping 1,500 degrees.

The magic temperature for restaurant-quality results when grilling protein like steak.

Bring the heat

The infrared grill uses top mounted ceramic burners that heat up quickly. The high heat sears flavors in and creates a crispy, caramelized crust on meat in seconds. The grill is not only for steak it’s also perfect for things like chicken, fish, flatbread pizzas and even your favorite veggies.

Cooking in the grill is done from the top down so all the juices from the meat drip down into a pan at the bottom. Perfect for making delicious sauces.

The grill runs on propane and is sized to fit any outdoor space. And because of its size, it’s easy to move around.

Beefer is made in Germany and comes with everything you need to get started. Along with the grill, you get two drip-catching trays, one pair of grill gloves, two grill grates, one handle for moving grates, and a 39” long gas hose.

The cost of bringing the steakhouse to your backyard isn’t cheap. Beefer costs $899 and is available on The Grommet.

You’ll never run out of coffee pods with the Java Smart Container

The WePlenish Java Smart Container is a current Kickstarter campaign.  WePlenish thinks the way of the future is to automate the home’s entire pantry, so goods will track their amounts and automatically order when they run low.  They’re starting with the Java Smart Container, which works with Amazon’s Dash Replenishment system to automatically reorder your favorite coffee pods, espresso capsules, tea, or even snack foods when supplies run low.  The Java Smart is the first and only container paired with Dash.

The container is battery-powered, so you can place it anywhere.  You connect it to WiFi, select the pantry item it will track, and let the WePlenish container do the rest.  You’ll just need to drop the new supplies in the container when they are delivered to your door.  The WePlenish app, available for Android and iOS, shows you a complete list of compatible consumables.

The Java Smart Container is available in black or white.  MSRP will be about $40, but the early bird pledge is $20 for a single Java Smart.  Estimated delivery is September 2018.  The funding period ends Friday, June 29, 2018, at 8:30 AM EDT.  Learn more at Kickstarter.

The Delux Designer may be just the right tool for Designers and Editors!

As long as I have been working as a photographer and filmmaker, I have continuously kept an “eye out” for innovative devices that add function and ease to my workflow, and especially to my editing workflow. Over the years, I have tried many devices all with their own positive and negatives, including some that integrated easily, and some that introduced caveats that were not worth the trouble.

Recently, I have been intrigued by a product that is on Kickstarter, that should be done with funding very soon and ready for production.

The Delux Designer is a one-handed keyboard that is being touted by the creators as the Ultimate Tool for Designers to boost work efficiency. It is compatible with 9 major software applications including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, CAD, 3D, Autodesk Maya, etc. It is also compatible with Wacom.

If you are as interested in the Delux Designer as I am, head over to the Delux website to remain updated on this product which has been selling (pre-order) on Kickstarter for $59. Shipping is scheduled to begin in July 2018.
