A cure for the common Apple AirPods color

NEWS – Are you interested in buying some Apple AirPods but don’t want the same white that everyone else has?  If so, ColorWare has the product you’re looking for.  They take various electronic devices and paint them to give you the unique device you want.  They add color to game controllers, microphones, computer mice, headphones, and AirPods.  If changing the color isn’t enough to pique your interest, ColorWare is offering two special, limited-time finishes for the AirPods.

The first finish is the AirPods Retro seen above.  The rainbow colored power button, faux vents, and the putty color harken back to the Apple IIe.  Changing the color doesn’t affect the functions of the AirPods – it just gives this set a cool 1980s vibe.  The AirPods Retro are $399.00.

If you want to match your AirPods to your Space Gray iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, you’ll need the AirPods Space Gray for $349.00.

And if you just want a change from white, you can choose from a variety of bright colors.  You can even choose different colors for the left and right pods and a third color for the case itself.  Custom ColorWare AirPods are $339.00.

Google brings texting to your desktop with Android Messages

NEWS – About 5 years ago ( 🙂 ) I wrote a news item on Mightytext, a neat utility that allowed you to send and receive texts on your desktop. I’ve been using this pretty much every day since.  Well, finally Google has come up with their own version otherwise known as Google Android Messages.  Like Mightytext you can open a browser window and send and receive texts (SMS) to and from your desktop as well as making it easy to send media such as pictures and video (MMS).

Google Android Messages also incorporates smart replies, handy when you’re busy and on the move.   This now replaces Textra and Mighty Text on my phone, two daily used apps. Both the phone and desktop interfaces look good and are easy to use. Worth checking out, especially if you do a lot of SMS/MMS.  It also supports chat (RCS) but that’s no use to me (and let’s face it Google’s messaging strategy has been a bit fragmented to say the least).

Finally, a spiral-bound notebook lefties will love

NEWS – As the mother of a left-handed daughter, I’ve listened to years of complaints about regular ring binders and spiral notebooks.  The rings or the spiral gets in the way of her writing, making taking notes uncomfortable.  Especially in the earlier years, she had to have a spiral-bound notebook for each of her classes, so she was stuck using the notebooks she hated.

A couple of years ago, I found some top-bound spiral notebooks with college-ruled notebook paper inside.  She could finally use a notebook easily without the rings or spiral getting in her way.  Amazon has the Mead Cambridge top-bound notebooks for sale now.  The books are filled with 8.5″ x 11″ college-ruled, 20 lb. white paper, with 70 perforated sheets (140 pages) per pad.  The overall size is 8.55″ x 12.62″.  The notebook has a heavy-duty front cover and a stiff cardboard back for a sturdy writing surface even without a desk.

Amazon makes the Mead Cambridge top-bound notebooks available for $2.45 as an add-on to a purchase of at least $25.00.  If you need wide-ruled pages, Amazon offers a set of four wide-ruled, top-bound notebooks for $15.00.  See both options of the Mead Cambridge top-bound spiral notebooks at Amazon.

The Kwilt Shoebox Plus just made storing your personal memories even better

NEWS – A few days ago, I tested and reviewed the Kwilt Shoebox. This little device connects to your network via wifi and is controlled via an Android or iOS app. It allows you to transfer all of the photos and video from your Smartphone or tablet to local storage across your network. The Kwilt has a USB port where you can add a flash drive or a USB hub with multiple drives to create virtually unlimited storage. Once your files are transferred, you have the option to either keep the original files on your mobile device or to delete them. The beauty about deleting them is that the Kwilt Shoebox allows you to access your stored files from anywhere at any time via the app. You can also add pictures and videos that were never on your device to the storage attached to the Kwilt, and you can access them via your phone/tablet as well.

I absolutely love the Kwilt Shoebox, albeit that I would prefer if it has a built-in Ethernet port to provide a more reliable connection, and the ability to add multiple drives without having to buy a hub to do so.

I guess the folks at Kwilt must be reading my mind because they just announced the Kwilt Shoebox Plus. This updated version of the shoebox had a built-in Ethernet port, 4 USB data ports for adding storage and still keeps the HDMI port and all of the original functionality.

If you are as interested in the Kwilt Shoebox Plus as I am, you can purchase one for $119 on Amazon or from the Kwilt website.
