Start a fire with your own personal flame thrower

NEWS – It’s not really a flame thrower, but you won’t need charcoal starter fluid for your grill or those little paraffin-soaked starter bundles for your fireplace anymore.  The Bison Airlighter is made of plastic and stainless steel.  It is CPSC compliant, and it has a child safety lock to prevent accidental ignition.  The lighter uses butane fuel, and it needs batteries to power an air blower.  A typical charcoal barbecue requires about 1 minute of fan time to be fully lighted or about 5 minutes before you are ready to cook.

There are two models available:

  • The Airlighter 420 has a built-in bottle opener and a storage hook.  It requires 3AA batteries.  It measures 16” x 2.2” x 3″ and weighs 1.3 pounds.  It’s $49.95.
  • The Airlighter 520 has in integrated flashlight and bottle opener.  It has USB-rechargeable batteries, and an adjustable folding handle with 3 different positions.  It measures 21″ x 3.5″ x 3″ and weighs 3 pounds.  It’s $79.95.

Both of these Bison Airlighters are available now at The Grommet.

Docfender fireproof bag protects your valuables

NEWS – There are a lot of fireproof safes on the market, but they are usually big, heavy, and decidedly not going to fit in your luggage.  The Docfender bag will fit in your luggage, so you can easily take your valuable documents when you travel, or when you have to “bug out”, like so many people recently did in my state of North Carolina.  This fireproof and water-resistant bag has a silicone-coated fiberglass exterior and an aluminum foil interior, which not only protects from heat – up to 932°F – but also repels water.

To ensure that your valuables stay inside, the Docfender closes with both a metal zipper and a Velcro closure.  At 15″ x 11″ x 2.5″, the bag is big enough to hold most document types.  The bag can also hold other valuables, like jewelry, money, or even a gun.

You can learn more about the Docfender Fireproof Document bag at the Docfender website and purchase one of your own for $18.66 at Amazon.

The Odor STEELer rids your hands of food odors without the suds

NEWS – What do fish, garlic, and onions all have in common? They all taste great and are good for you but cooking with them always leaves the chef with smelly hands. No matter how hard you scrub with soap and water the smell lingers. Odor STEELer is here to rid your hands of those unwanted lingering smells.

The Odor STEELer is a stainless steel “soap” that gets rid of odors when you rub your hands on it under running water. It works because the sulfur compounds in the scent of foods like fish and garlic are attracted to and bind to the metal. And because it’s made of metal, it won’t absorb any of the odors.

The not-really-soap cleaner even comes with a removable silicone sponge sleeve that helps to clean your hands when you do use actual soap. And the silicone sleeve has bristles, so it doubles as a veggie-brush. Perfect for soft-skinned fruits and vegetables like peaches, mushrooms, and plums.

The Odor STEELer comes in four different colors blue, green, red, and yellow and is available on The Grommet for $11.95.

Add a nightlight and an air freshener to your toilet

NEWS – A few years ago, we told you about the Kohler Nightlight toilet seats that added two battery-powered nightlights to your Kohler toilet.  If you don’t have Kohler fixtures, you can still have a nightlight for your toilet with the GlowBowl Fresh.  This motion-activated toilet nightlight fits any toilet.  It has a flexible arm that will bend to fit any toilet bowl and hold itself in place.  This is the second generation of the GlowBowl, which adds an air freshener function to the nightlight.

The GlowBowl Fresh is powered by three AAA batteries.  It’s motion-activated to preserve battery life; it turns itself off after you leave the bathroom.  It has LEDs that can produce 13 different colors, so you can select the nightlight color you like best.  The GlowBowl Fresh is available for $14.99 at Amazon.

A helping hand for putting on bracelets

NEWS – It doesn’t matter which arm I’m going to wear a bracelet on, I always seem to have trouble getting one end of the bracelet to stay in place on my arm while I try to clasp the other end to it.  I usually get my husband or daughter to put the bracelet on for me, and when they aren’t home, I don’t wear a bracelet.  This Bracelet Buddy tool might mean I’d never again need help from another person to get my bracelets on.

The Bracelet Buddy is a plastic stick that looks like a stack of beads.  At the end is a rubbery plastic alligator clip.  You clip the end of the bracelet with the stationary part of the clasp with the Buddy and hold it in your hand as shown in the image.  Use your free hand to operate the lobster or hook end of the clasp and attach it to the stationary part.

The Bracelet Buddy is $9.98 at Harriet Carter.
