The Gourmia IoT Cool-Cooker has something other slow cookers don’t

Before I fell in love with my Instant Pot, I used a slow cooker to cook chickens and roasts while I was at work during the day. The only annoying thing about using a slow cooker (aka crock pot) is that I’d have to get up earlier than usual to put all the ingredients in the cooker. I don’t like getting up in the morning, so getting up even earlier does not make Julie a happy camper. But the new Gourmia IoT Cool-Cooker might be the holy grail of slow-cookers because it not only cooks your food, but it keeps it cold BEFORE it starts cooking it.

The Gourmia Cool-Cooker has a built-in refrigeration unit that keeps everything cold before it’s time to cook. You can add all the items to the cooker the night before, like meat and vegetables and then control it later from anywhere with an app on your phone to start the cooking process. The Gourmia Cool-Cooker can even be controlled using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants.

The Cool-Cooker is a 6-quart 11-in-1 cooker that can bake, make rice, roast, yogurt, porridge, slow cook, keep food warm, sauté, steam, and sous vide.

There isn’t any pricing info at this time, but the Cool-Cooker will be available at retailers later in 2018. More info will be available at Gourmia.com

Giving new meaning to home delivery – Amazon can now deliver a pre-constructed 20- or 40-ft tiny home to you

Usually, when you hear about tiny homes, you hear the story of how the owner has crafted their home themselves.  If you aren’t handy, there are some options for buying a pre-made tiny home, if you’re lucky enough to find a manufacturer you can work with.  Now any of us could have a tiny home because Amazon can ship a finished MODS home complete with appliances (those shown in the photos).

There are two models of the MODS homes at Amazon at the moment:  a 40-ft version and a 20-ft version.  Both versions are built from a new shipping container, and both have a bottom sewer connection, easy side water, and electrical connection.  Both have double patio doors that can be secured behind the container doors.  They are fully heated, insulated, and air-conditioned.

The 20-ft home has 160 square feet of interior space.  It comes with a kitchen with microwave, fridge, and sink, and a 2-piece bathroom with toilet and shower.  The 40-ft model has 320 square feet, and it has a bedroom, shower, toilet, and sink, plus a small kitchenette and living area.

The 20-ft MODS tiny home is $23,000.00 plus about $4380.00 to ship.  The 40-ft MODS tiny home is $36,000.00 plus about $3755.00 to ship.  Learn more at Amazon.

This little iron keeps your collars looking perfect

I don’t like ironing, so I try to quickly hang up shirts as soon as the dryer buzzes so they don’t need ironing.  Sometimes, though, the shirt will look fine, but the collar just won’t lay flat, and it needs ironing anyway.  With the Compact Touch-Up and Portable Iron, you won’t have to get out the ironing board and full-sized iron just to touch up a collar.  The iron was created by a Marine to keep his uniform looking good, so you know it will work for you.

The iron has two facing heated plates that smooth out the wrinkles in a collar or sharpen up a crease.  It has angled edges so the iron can fit between buttons to smooth out that area near the neck that never seems to dry flat.  And when needed, those plates can lay flat to serve as a mini iron.

The Touch-Up Iron has six settings for various fabric types:  polyester, silk, wool, cotton, denim, and linen.  It measures 5.25″ x 3.3″ x 1.5″ and the flaps extend to 6.5″; it weighs 0.81 pounds.  It operates on 110V or 220V power.  It’s great for use at home for quick touch ups, and it’s sized perfectly to throw in your suitcase for travel.

The Compact Touch-Up and Portable Iron is $34.95 at The Grommet.

Forget Murphy beds – check out these Murphy doors!

Murphy doors aren’t quite the same as a Murphy bed; they utilize a door to add shelving, but the storage isn’t necessarily hidden away.  There are several varieties of Murphy doors.  Some look like a built-in bookcase, some look like free-standing bookshelves.  Some have the storage visible in the room; others have the storage on the inside, like the closet doors seen above.  You can convert an existing door into a flush-mounted built-in bookcase that still operates as a door.  You can cover a wall opening with a set of free-standing bookshelves that open like bifold doors.  The closet doors seen in our image open like French doors to reveal hidden storage inside.  The Murphy Door company even has introduced barn door styles.

The storage can be all shelving, or you can add upper or lower cabinets, or you could have a wine rack, pool cue storage, or even a laundry hamper door.  You can enter your door or entryway dimensions to get a custom-sized door, or you can select from ready-to-ship doors (when available).  Accessories for the doors include keyed locks, magnetic locks with optional remote, lighting kits, and even a biometric fingerprint scanner.

Of course, the doors vary in price with size, material, and styles – but can you really put a price on having a hidden room behind a built-in bookcase?

You can design and order Murphy Doors at the Murphy Door website.  You’ll also find a local-dealer locator at the Murphy Door site.

Now you can put a SnapPower GuideLight anywhere

SnapPower GuideLights are easy to install outlet wallplates that add an automatic LED night light that turns on when it gets dark and turns off during the day. I reviewed the SnapPower GuideLight back in 2014 and continue to use them in several rooms of my home. Well, every room except in the bathroom and kitchen because until now, there SnapPower didn’t offer GuideLights for GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlets. But now they do!

The GuideLight 2 PLUS and GuideLight 2 PLUS for GFCI are SnapPower’s newest products in the GuideLight outlet cover line. The new easy to install wallplates feature a soft diffused light bar, a low-profile ergonomic on/off switch, and brightness settings.

The GuideLight 2 PLUS and GuideLight 2 PLUS for GFCI are priced from $16 to $19 and can be found at SnapPower’s online retail store. For more info visit www.snappower.com. They should also show up on their Amazon store soon with their other products.
