This isn’t a Murphy bed. It’s an Ori Pocket Closet!

NEWS – Just like a Murphy bed, the Ori Pocket Closet is designed to fit a lot of functionality into a small space.  Ori says their “Pocket Closet is the walk-in closet you’ve always wanted, but never had the room for. The first-ever standalone walk-in closet instantly multiplies storage capacity in nearly any space.”  Look closely in the above image and you’ll see a bar between the two sections of hanging space.  The leftmost section has a square button on it, which triggers that section to move along the bar and close against the other hanging section.

You’ll need at least 9 feet x 9 feet of open wall and floor space and at least 7 feet of unobstructed height to install an Ori unit.  The floor needs to be a hard, level surface, like hardwood, laminate, or polished concrete. Carpet is not recommended.  Different configurations are available, so you can use the Pocket Closet as a closet, pantry, or a room divider with storage inside.

Right now, there’s a limited number of Pocket Closets in the Founder’s Edition in white with oak trim available for December shipping.  If you order now, you can get free installation ($450 value), or you can assemble and install the flat-packed structure yourself.  Prices for the Founder’s Edition begin at $2650.00.  You can also pre-order the Pocket Closet in oak or walnut, also with free installation if you order now.  Prices for these units begin at $2950 and require a $250 deposit for pre-order.

Learn more about how the Pocket Closet can transform your space at the Ori website.

The Gaston Floating Secretary Desk gives you an office even when you have no room for one

NEWS – The Gaston Floating Secretary Desk is a perfect addition to a bedroom, small living room, or even a tiny home – anywhere you need a desk workspace but don’t have room for one.  This desk mounts to the wall and folds away when you don’t need to work.  When needed, the front folds out like those old-fashioned secretary desks to reveal a worktop for your laptop or for your paperwork.  Closed or open, the Gaston provides a couple of display shelves and a couple of storage drawers.

The Secretary is made by HARTÔ, a French furniture company, working in collaboration with Industry West.  It’s made of oak veneer MDF and oak veneer plywood with a matte finish. The matte lacquer drawers use leather tongues as drawer pulls. Mounting hardware is included.

The Gaston Floating Secretary Desk measures 23.6″ wide x 12.4″ deep x 28.3″ tall for $700.  If you need a bit more space, the Gaston is also available in a larger size.  The Gaston Floating Secretary Desk Large measures 31.5″ wide x 14.5″ deep x 28.3″ tall, with a 15.7″ deep folding table, for $950.  Both are available directly from Industry West.

The Synca Wellness massage chair will relieve your tension in style

NEWS – For many years I have played around with cost-effective solutions to create a comfortable and effective massage chair. Whenever I get home from a long photo or video shoot or sometimes after a tense day at work, nothing feels better than a heated back massage. Over the years, I have tried the portable massage pads that you place in a chair and plug up to an AC adapter or to the cigarette lighter in your car. I must have spent at least $400 on a few of them, but they never seem to do the job right, and the wires always seem to get in the way. I have found that the chairs with the built-in massage function work a whole lot better, but many of them are priced in the $1000s and, to be honest, are quite ugly. Since I can learn to live with the ugliness but not the cost, I have even made excuses to take trips to the mall not far away from my home, so that I can sit in their massage chairs at the reasonable cost of $1 for 3 minutes.

Recently, I came across the Synca Wellness CirC – SL Track Heated Massage Chair. In my opinion, this massage chair starts the competition ahead of the pack because of the refined look that makes it pleasing to look at and allows it to adequately blend into any décor. In addition to its “look”, it is smaller than most massage chairs, while offering what its manufacturer claims to be lumbar heat and an impressive massage. It is designed with a 106-degree angle between the seat and the backrest to create an “ergonomically comfortable seating angle and position”. It also includes ambient side lighting to help to create the right atmosphere and mood.

If you would like to try out the Synca Wellness CirC – SL Track Heated Massage Chair, you can purchase one on Amazon for $899.99 in either a coffee, wine or beige color.

Life is too short for dumb nightstands – Part Deux!

A couple months ago, we told you about the Indiegogo project for the Sobro Smart Side Tables, complete with nightlight, Bluetooth speakers, built-in wireless charger and USB, USB-C, and AC outlets, locking drawer, and refrigerator drawer – and all controlled with an app.  The biggest drawback is the wait time for the project to be funded then completed.  The Smart Nightstand from West Elm has almost as many features, minus the refrigerator drawer, and it’s available right now from West Elm.

The nightstand stands 16″ wide x 11″ deep x 20″ tall, and it’s available with a white or black lacquer finish over engineered wood.  Other features include:

  • Wireless charging capability on the table top plus 2 USB ports.
  • Motion activated LED light to guide you to the bathroom without turning on a room light.
  • Hi-Fi stereo audio system plus microphone.
  • Bluetooth + NFC pairing.
  • iOS + Android OS app integration.
  • 1 electric lock drawer.

It’s perfect to stand by your bed, or you can remove the legs and attach it to the wall.  The Smart Nightstand is available to order now; it will be shipped from the vendor to your home and will arrive in 1-3 weeks.  It’s $450.00 at West Elm.
