Is TableCoaster the ultimate anti-spill drink holder?

The same folks who created the CouchCoaster we told you about earlier this year have introduced the TableCoaster. Even when sitting on a flat, stable table top, it’s possible to knock your drink over – and always on your computer, phone, or important papers it seems.  That won’t happen with the TableCoaster.

Unlike a regular, flat coaster, the TableCoaster doesn’t just absorb moisture from the glass or prevent scratches on the table.  TableCoaster holds mugs, tumblers, bottles, and cans up to 3.5″ (90mm) wide, and it works for hot or cold drinks.  An inner sleeve acts as an adapter to tighten the fit for drinks up to 2.75″ (70mm) wide, and it removes to reveal a mug handle slot. The micro-suction base has a strong adhesive to hold the coaster firmly to a smooth surface.  It leaves behind no residue, and it can be re-used over and over again without losing any sticking power.  The inventor says the outer wall “deflects outside forces down to the base instead of side to side, ensuring drinks stay upright.”

You can use the TableCoaster indoors or outside, home or office, and even in a car or RV.  It’s available now at Amazon in the US in jet black or glacier white for $11.95.  Learn more at the TableCoaster website or order at Amazon.

Life is also too short for dumb coffee tables!

We recently told you about the Sobro smart nightstands Indiegogo project.  (My geek side won out over my design plan, and I’m waiting for my pledge for two of the nightstands to be fulfilled in October of this year.)  As it turns out, Sobro already has some experience with smart furniture, because they also used crowd-funding to launch their Sobro Coffee Table last year.  This smart coffee table is the ideal piece for your TV or game room.

The Coffee Table has a 22″ x 11″ x 7″ refrigerator drawer that can keep up to 32 drinks cold.  It also has two built-in Bluetooth speakers with enhanced sound and bass, and it has 2 USB charging ports and four 120V power outlets to keep your phones, remotes, and other devices charged.  Underneath is an LED fixture for mood lighting or for a nightlight.   A tempered glass top has built-in touch screen controls to control all the functions of the table without having to download an app to your phone or tablet.

And the table even has two storage drawers to hold your remotes, coasters, game controllers, cables – even your old-school TV Guide, if those things still exist in a paper format.

The Sobro Coffee Table measures 43.1″ x 22.8″ x 22.8″ and weighs 100 pounds.  It is available in all white (second photo), all black, or black with woodgrain (top photo).  You can purchase directly from Sobro for $1499.00 for any color or at Amazon for $1299.00 for the white and woodgrain or $1499.00 for the all black model.

This gives new comfort to sleeping on the couch

When space is limited in your home, you need furnishings that do double duty.  This product from CouchBed is the ideal product for folks living in a tiny home, a studio apartment, or for those without a guest room.  As the name suggests, the CouchBed is a couch that easily converts to a bed.

The CouchBed is a 10″ Memory Foam mattress that’s “made with 100% CertiPur certified ultra-dense memory foam, combined with phase-change material to actively cool the sleeping surface, so it won’t get hot like traditional memory foam.”  CertiPur means the product is free of “ozone depleters, formaldehyde, mercury, lead or heavy metals, and meet CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions and durability.”  The mattress is made with a “hinge”, so you can flip up part to turn the mattress into a couch.

CouchBed says it’s sturdy and comfortable enough to be used as your daily couch and daily bed.  It’s available in a twin size for $299.99 or a queen size ($449.99).  You’ll select from a black, charcoal, limestone, blue, or red cover, and you’ll receive two bamboo-infused Memory Foam pillows free with each CouchBed purchased.

If you desire a little extra height for your sofa and your bed, you can pre-order the adjustable platform.  The solid wood platform adds 10″ of height.  It slides closed when the CouchBed is in the couch form and slides open to accommodate the mattress form.  Platforms will begin shipping in June.  Twin size is $249.99 and the queen is $299.99.  If you are buying the CouchBed and platform together, use the COMBO code for a $50 discount.

BDI media cabinets incorporate ventilated shelves and cord control

We recently bought a new media cabinet for our living room.  I was tired of the old, dark veneered, 14″-off-the-ground DIY unit we had for years.  I wanted something of furniture quality, and I wanted a style that would complement the Mid-Century modern decorating style of my house.  I looked no further than BDI, because their Venue 8649W media and storage had everything I wanted.

The Venue has curves and more curves.  You can see in the photo of my own Venue (above) that the bottom curves up at the ends and the legs swoop and curve.  What you can’t see is how the top is also curved like a surfboard.

The cabinet is available in white and in black.  I was tired of dark cabinets, so you’ll see I ordered the white.  Had I gotten the black, the two center doors would have been made of black glass, which allow the passthrough of IR remote controllers.  With my white version, all four front doors are made of wood.  Most of my components have Bluetooth or WiFi remotes, but I had to buy an IR repeater so I could control my cable box without opening the doors.

The cabinet is beautiful, but beauty is more than skin deep in this product.  The interior and the back is designed to make connecting all your equipment easy and neat.  I already loaded up everything in my cabinet, so I took a stock image of another BDI cabinet interior so you can see how the interior shelf, the bottom of the cabinet, and the back of the cabinet are ventilated to keep everything cool inside while you are marathoning shows.  What you can’t see is that the back of the center shelves have divots in the back to allow easy passage of cables from top to bottom.  The vertical divider walls also have cutouts to allow passing cables from section to section.  The back walls have cutouts to guide the cables up to the TV or down to the power or cable hookups.  The back panels also lift off so you can easily access the backs of your components for easy hookup.

Combine all this cable guidance built-in to the Venue with my Samsung TV’s little control box, and I only have a few cables to control outside of the cabinet.  I have a single cable going from the control box up through the metal stand of the TV.  Coming up into the bottom of the Venue is a single power cable to the surge protector I put inside the cabinet, the cablevision co-ax, and an Ethernet cable to my Apple TV.  A couple of cable guides keeps those cords routed down the Venue’s legs.  You can still see a few cables on the floor, but it’s not the dangling snake nest that was wadded up behind my old media cabinet.

I was able to fit the cable DVR, Blu-Ray player, Apple TV box, Samsung TV control box, a huge surge protector, a couple of Bluetooth transmitters, and two charging stations for charging Bluetooth headsets inside the center two compartments.  The two end compartments have about 12 of those DVD organizers that look like photo albums.

The body of the Venue is made of painted wood veneers, and the base is made of powder-coated steel.  The cabinet weighs a couple hundred pounds, so attaching the legs is a two-person job – unless you get white-glove delivery, like we did.  It measures 29″ tall (the same height as a dining table) x 79″ long by 20″ deep and is designed to accommodate a TV up to 85″ (up to 175 pounds).

There was actually a local brick-and-mortar store that carried some BDI furniture, but they didn’t seem to offer the Venue.  We purchased our cabinet from Modern Essentials for about $2200.00.  It’s worth every penny!

Life is too short for dumb nightstands!

I literally searched for years for a pair of vintage, mid-century nightstands that I liked and could afford.  I finally found a perfect pair just last summer, and now I’m ready to throw them out for a couple of these Sobro Smart Side Tables.  These smart tables have every feature I never knew I needed!  And the table is controlled by an app, so it’s the ultimate piece for a high-tech bedroom.

Sobro side tables have a whisper-quiet thermoelectric cooling drawer, so you’ll never have to get up in the middle of the night for a glass of water.  The other drawer locks for secure storage – and of course the lock is app-controlled.  The Sobro table has built-in Bluetooth stereo speakers for cranking your tunes before bedtime.  You’ll be able to charge any device, because the top has a built-in wireless charging pad that can charge two devices simultaneously and the base has USB, USB-C, and 120V power outlets with cable control to keep things neat.  Oh, and the legs are adjustable so you can get the perfect height for your bed.

The back of the nightstand has RGB LED accent lighting (app-controlled), and these lights can also be used to help you wake naturally by simulating sunrise.  And of course, there’s a built-in sound generator that will help you fall asleep, too.  The front bottom of the Sobro smart table has an LED light bar that’s a motion-triggered nightlight to help you find your way safely to the bathroom.  The app lets you select warm or bright-white color for the nightlight and lets you set the brightness and the duration the nightlight stays on.

And of course, this beauty is WiFi-enabled for firmware updates and to allow you to control the Sobro remotely.

Right now, Sobro is on Indiegogo with about a month left in their campaign.  They met their funding goal in less than an hour of going live, and right now they are sitting at about 1736% funding.  The Sobro Smart Side Table is available for a pledge of $379 (plus shipping) for one or $699 for a pair.  These prices reflect a savings of more than 50% off the retail price.  Shipping is expected in October 2018.  Pledge for your own Sobro Smart Side Table at Indiegogo.

If you can’t wait until Fall for a smart table, go to the Sobro website and check out their Smart Coffee Table.  It was a successfully-funded Indiegogo project last year.
