Get paid for your old gadgets with Amazon Trade-In

Did you know that Amazon will “buy” your old phones and other gadgets and pay you back in Amazon gift cards? I haven’t used their trade-in program, but a quick read of the details makes it sound pretty inviting.

Here’s how it works… You go to the Amazon Trade-in page, scroll through the list of items that you’ve already bought from them to see how much you can earn for each item. If you don’t see an item on the list that you’d like to sell, just do a search to see if they’ll buy it.

Hmmm, I’m no longer using this router… maybe it’s time to trade it in!

Amazon will send you a paid shipping label, you box up the item, ship it to them for free, wait for them to appraise it and then within 10 days, you get an Amazon gift card that you can use on anything that Amazon sells. If you change your mind after they tell you how much they will pay or if there’s a problem with the item, they will ship it back for free.

It might be a great way to unload your old phone in anticipation of buying the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or iPhone 8.

Amazon Trade-In offers competitive trade-in values* for the hottest devices, including:
Apple iPhone 7, Silver, 32 GB (Unlocked) up to $305
Apple iPhone 7, Black, 128 GB (Unlocked) up to $335
Apple iPhone 7 Plus, Silver, 32 GB (Unlocked) up to $335
Apple iPhone 7 Plus, Black, 128 GB (Unlocked) up to $370
Apple iPhone 6s, Silver, 32 GB (Unlocked) up to $205
Apple iPhone 6s Plus, Space Gray, 32 GB (Unlocked) up to $240
Samsung Galaxy S7, Black, 32 GB (Unlocked) up to $150
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Black, 32 GB (Unlocked) up to $170

* Trade-in values are subject to change and vary based on model, carrier, and condition.

The Amazon Trade-in service is an easy way to get rid of stuff that you’re no longer using. There’s really no down side other than finding a box to pack the items in. Check out the details by visiting the Amazon Trade-in page.

Why you should join Amazon Prime today

Online shoppers need to be ready on July 10th at 9 PM EST which is when the 3rd annual Prime Day starts. Prime Day is a special day set aside just for Amazon Prime Members that could just as easily be called Christmas in July because of all the Black Friday type deals that will be offered for 30 hours.

If you aren’t already an Amazon Prime member, there’s no better day to join than today. First of all, you can get a 30-day free trial and if you have an Amazon Echo, you can save $20 off of the normal $99 yearly membership fee just by saying “Alexa, sign me up for Prime.”

Another good reason to sign up today is that Amazon is giving Prime members a special deal on Amazon’s Music Unlimited streaming service. This service normally costs $7.99 a month, but now through July 11th, you can get 4 months of service for only .99 cents. I signed up for myself just this morning.

Get 4 months of Amazon Music Unlimited for $0.99.

Apple announces the HomePod, challenger to Amazon Echo and Google Home

One of the most interesting announcements made today at Apple’s Annual WWDC was the release of the Apple HomePod, Apple’s entry into the home assistant arms race.

A straight up challenger to the champ, Amazon Echo and the runner-up, Google Home, Apple’s HomePod takes Siri out of your iPhone and places her squarely, for better or worse, in your living room. Marketed primarily as a wireless speaker, the HomePod will be able to use “spatial awareness” to sense its location in a room and adjust its audio accordingly.

The HomePod is just under seven inches tall, has six microphones, and is powered by the Apple-designed A8 chip. One of the best features of the HomePod, something glaringly missing in the Echo, is the ability to sense other HomePods and unify the listening experience utilizing an update to AirPlay 2.

Of course, the HomePod, triggered by the phrase “Hey Siri,” will have all the requisite home assistant features like controlling HomeKit devices and answering basic questions.

Time will tell if Siri’s voice recognition can compete in the home with Amazon’s Alexa, but the HomePod’s specs certainly outpace the sound quality of Amazon’s device. Although at $350, the HomePod is about twice as expensive as the Echo.

The Apple HomePod will be available in December and is not yet available for preorder. The device comes in two colors, white and “space gray”.
