Keyport Anywhere Tools modular EDC system review

REVIEW – I love seeing how my favorite companies evolve over time. For example, Keyport started out making unique key organizers but now their product line has turned modular to include a system of EDC pocket tools. Let’s take a closer look at Keyport’s Anywhere Tools.

What is it?

Keyport Anywhere Tools is an EDC (every day carry) modular stacking EDC system that can fit in your pocket. Some of the tools include a pocket knife with interchangeable scales, a rechargeable flashlight, USB cable, and more. The Anywhere Tools are designed so that they can snap together so that you can you can bundle them.

Design and features

Anywhere Pocket Clip

I’m going to start out with the Anywhere Pocket Clip. The Pocket Clip is a one piece hardened spring steel clip that is available in 3 colors: black, grey, and spectrum.

The clip is designed to work with the other Anywhere Tools and just snaps on them without needing screws or any other type of fastener. Optional ParaPull lanyards ($1.49 each) round out the look and add a bit more functionality.

The clip itself is about 2 inches long so it’s long enough to clip to a belt, pocket, etc. Then if you need to remove the clip from the tool, you just press the release “button” and slide it. You can see the “button” in the image above. It’s in the last hole of the clip.

RuSH Multi-Purpose Tool

You can use any pointy object to remove the Anywhere Tools, Pocket Clip, etc, but the RuSH Multi-Purpose Tool is specially designed for the job and features a few extras like a bottle opener, suspension hook, and ruler.

Too bad that it’s just slightly too wide to be used as a SIM removal tool.

NEBA Knife Module

It goes without saying that you have to have a pocket knife as part of your EDC. The NEBA has a 2″ slip joint clip point blade.

The blade does not lock, but it does open and close with a satisfying click and it feels like a quality blade. There’s even jimping on the blade so your thumb won’t slip.

The NEBA is designed as a mid-module which means that you can stack other Anywhere Tools or a side plate on one side and a pocket clip on the other.

For scales, Keyport sent me their carbon fiber side plate/scale and they offer several other styles including camo, wood, and more.

I like the NEBA knife a lot. It has a nice feel to it and the fact that it’s not a locking blade doesn’t bother me.

Pocket Flare Module

Along with a knife, you have to have a flashlight as part of your EDC. The Pocket Flare Module is a very minimalist flashlight and is designed to be an outer-module which means that you can only attach other tools to one side.

When you press the button on the side, the LED blub sends out 27 lumens. Yes, I know that 27 lumens is pretty dim when it comes to flashlights, but it can help in a pinch and it will definitely help with close up work.

The cool thing about the Pocket Flare is that when you press the button again, it switches to lamp mode which lights up the handle to create a tiny lantern.

How’s this flashlight powered? With a rechargeable (via micro USB) battery that can provide up to 40 minutes in flashlight mode and up to 45 minutes in lamp mode.

WeeLINK Charger Cable Module

You might be wondering how to carry a charging cable for the Pocket Flare Module. It comes with a cable, which you might lose, or you can use the Keyport WeeLINK Charger Cable Module that is available in USB-C, micro USB, and Lightning cable versions.

This module is basically a magnetic holder for a 2.5 inch long charger cable. In other words, it’s a wee charger cable…WeeLINK… get it? 😉

The cable is held in place very securely with magnets and the holder is designed so that you can attach a Pocket Clip or another Anywhere Tool to the other side.

MOCA II Module

The MOCA II Module (in the foreground) is designed like the NEBA knife to be a mid-module. That means you can attach other tools or a pocket clip to the sides.

It’s an 11-in-1 TSA friendly multi-tool that features a bottle opener, Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, cord cutter, box opener, rulers, and wrenches.

Price: $14.99

The best thing about Keyport’s Anywhere Tool system is the variety that they offer so that you can create a multi-tool that works for you and if it doesn’t, you can reconfigure it.

Put a flashlight with a multi-tool and a pocket clip. No problem.

Create a multi-tool with a pocket knife and a pocket clip, easy peasy!

What I like

What needs to be improved

  • More tools please! I’d like to see a pair of mini-scissors, pliers, a flash drive, higher powered flashlight, and SIM removal tool

Final thoughts

I’ve been a fan of Keyport since I reviewed their Slide key organizer and I continue to be a fan as they develop new tools and EDC gear. Their products are well made and fun to use. All I can say is I want more of them!

Leatherman’s new FREE series multi-tools use freaking magnets!

NEWS – I’ve had a red Leatherman Squirt as part of my EDC for a couple of years and I use it pretty regularly. I also have a couple of full-sized multi-tools that I keep for around the home jobs. The only bad thing about most multi-tools is that you have to use your fingernails to pry out the individual tools. That’s not a big deal if you have strong nails, but mine have a tendency to split or chip if I’m not careful. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s the biggest reason why I’m excited about Leatherman’s new FREE series of multi-tools because they feature magnets for low friction when opening and closing.

These newly redesigned multi-tools not only look different than other Leatherman tools, but they have a lot of new tech built into them. Namely magnets and that the tools are accessible from the outside and can be deployed with one hand.

There are 3 different series of tools. There’s the P Series that you see above, it’s a full-sized fold out multi-tool with pliers and a selection of other small tools.

There’s the smaller T Series tool that reminds me of a Swiss Army knife because it includes just the essentials like a knife and screwdrivers, scissors, and a bottle opener. This one looks really good to me because it’s small and includes a pair of scissors. I think this one could replace my Squirt.

Then there’s the K Series which also features a pocket knife, but it has other tools that pivot out of the handle. What do you think? Are you excited about these new tools too? The FREE series will start rolling out in April with the P Series which will be priced starting at $120. The T Series will be available in June starting at $40 and finally, the K Series will show up in August starting at $80. Up-armor your lighter with the Thyrm PyroVault Lighter Armor

NEWS – The Thyrm PyroVault Lighter Armor does what it says on the tin. The PyroVault is a rugged housing that accepts most Zippo-style inserts (either liquid fuel or butane).

The PyroVault is constructed from rugged, heat-resistant, reinforced polymer with an o-ring seal. The seal works to keep dirt and moisture out of the lighter mechanism, while simultaneously reducing the evaporation of liquid fuel from the lighter. The design includes a spring-loaded cap which is secured with an easy open latch. To help you keep track of your lighter, the Pyrovault includes both a  lanyard loop in the latch housing and a MOLLE-compatible clip on the back side of the housing.

While the housing does include an o-ring, the PyroVault is not rated for prolonged submersion or diving, so you won’t be able to light up a celebratory stogie during your cave diving excursion.

Thyrm does note that some butane torch inserts which use their own spring mechanisms to open and close the butane value will not work in the PyroVault since the inserts’ own springs are not used to open and close the housing.

They Thyrm PyroVault is available in rescue (orange), urban gray, black, olive drab (green), and flat dark earth (dark tan).

CountyComm’s Survival Titanium Fishing Card is a pocket-sized fishing kit that isn’t sold by Ron Popeil

NEWS – If you’ve ever found yourself far from the nearest tackle shop and wanted to test your skill at the local fishing hole, or you’ve found yourself lost in the wilderness and needing to catch a fish for your next meal, the CountyComm Survival Titanium Fishing Card may be just the tool you need. The Survival Titanium Fishing Card is a limited-run EDC / emergency fishing kit that includes a selection of hooks (14) and spoons (3) that may be combined with some locally sourced line (say a gutted piece of paracord) and a pole (the included saw can help with building a suitable pole from local materials).

The card is laser cut from a single sheet of Grade 4 titanium and is backed with a piece of adhesive neoprene to allow for the removal of individual pieces while allowing the rest to remain securely attached to the card. The backing also allows you to return a used piece of gear to the card for storage. The card may also be secured to the back of another EDC card, such as a fishing license, credit card, or membership card for slimmer and more discrete carry options.

The card with the adhesive neoprene backing is roughly the same thickness as a US quarter dollar coin and is the same footprint as the average credit/debit card. The specifications of the Fishing Card are

Atwood Rope MFG Micro Cord Dispenser and Tactical Rope Dispenser

NEWS – Atwood Rope MFG of Winchester, Ohio has recently introduced a Micro Cord Dispenser (Mini TRD) to compliment their Tactical Rope Dispenser (TRD). The Tactical Rope Dispenser hold standard 550 paracord, while the Micro Cord Dispenser holds 3/64″ (1.18 mm) cord. Both of the dispensers come loaded with a full spool of appropriately-sized cord and are refillable with your choice of cord. Both allow you to carry and easily dispense and cut cord using built-in cutters.

Atwood Micro Cord Dispenser

The Micro Cord Dispenser checks in 3.25″ long by 2.35″ high by 1.5″ thick and will hold a spool of either Atwood Rope’s micro or nano cord.

If you elect for the micro cord, you will have up to 125′ of cord at your disposal while you can carry up to 300′ of the nano cord. Atwood Rope offers over 15 different patterns and types of cord for the Micro Cord Dispenser including glow-in-the-dark, reflective, and Aramid / Kevlar (r) and can be reloaded in seconds. A built-in cord holder and cutter allow you to dispense and cut the small cord as easily as using a tape dispenser. The cord holder prevents the cord from unspooling during and between uses. The Mini TRD also sports a molded loop which may be used to secure your dispenser. The Mini TRD comes in black and has an MSRP of $12.99

The larger Tactical Rope Dispenser comes fully loaded with 50′ of 550 paracord. The TRD has a heavy-duty belt loop on the back and a loop for securing it to your gear using a piece of cording. The TRD is approximately 4.2″ long by 4″ high by 2.7″ thick.

Like its smaller brother, the TRD has a cord management clip and built-in cutter to allow for easy dispensing. If the TRD is worn using the belt clip, dispensing and cutting paracord can be performed one-handed. A handy viewing window on the front of the case allows you to check how much cord is left on the spool.

The Tactical Rope Dispenser will hold 50′ of 550 paracord and may be reloaded. The process of loading the TRD is much more involved than that of the Mini TRD and will take minutes rather than seconds. The Tactical Rope Dispenser is available in 12 color choices, including black, safety orange, red, flat dark earth, glow-in-the-dark, and multiple camouflage options. Prices for the TRD range from $19.95 to $29.95 depending on the type of shell.
