The Magbox Softbox may be the only softbox I will need

NEWS – Over the years I have purchased many photography softboxes that I have used in every relevant shoot to achieve the proper lighting and lighting effect. Usually, I use one Speedlite flash with a softbox, or I use a strobe flash with a softbox when I need more power which is more likely when I am outdoors. In order to be prepared for any and every possibility that can arise when on a shoot, photographers carry a lot of equipment or have a lot of equipment at the ready in the studio. When traveling to locations, it would really nice to be able to just carry one softbox configuration that can meet all of my lighting needs.

Magnet Mod is an established company that makes really well made and versatile lighting equipment. Their latest product is called the Magbox. It is one solid piece softbox umbrella with magnets in the base. The magnets allow for the attachment of the MagRing and then MagShoe to create an amazingly versatile system. The MagRing also allows for the use of 2 flashes simultaneously if you need to ramp up the power, and there are also diffusers and integrated gels that can be added to the mix. The following picture shows the components that together provide an amazing solution.

If you are as interested in the Magbox softbox as I am, you can head over to their Indiegogo crowdfunding page for all of the details and to take advantage of the early bird specials. You can also go to the Magnet Mod website to see the rest of their amazing products. In addition, you can go to the B&H Photo Video website and preorder the MagBox starter kit for $289.95 or the MagBox 24 Octa Pro Kit for $499.95

Aircork The Wine Preserver is an ingenious way of maintaining your wine’s flavor and aroma

NEWS – When my wife and I enjoy a bottle of wine and we don’t finish the bottle right away, it would be nice to have a better way of preserving the flavors and aromas of that elegant beverage than a mere cork or even a stopper, neither of which will effectively prevent the air trapped in the bottle allowing the oxidation process to break down wine and cause its taste and scent to deteriorate.   This is where Aircork The Wine Preserver comes in.  It’s a device that seals the remaining wine in the bottle from the outside air, preserving the initial flavors and aromas.  Aircork works by placing its deflated balloon inside of a partially-empty bottle of wine, then squeezing the pump, which inflates the bladder and seals the wine off from ambient air and its wine-attacking oxygen.  The inflated bladder seals tightly enough that the bottle can be turned upside down without leaking.  To pour more wine from the bottle, open the release valve a bit to deflate the bladder.   Aircork The Wine Preserver is available in Burgundy, White, Charcoal, or Barrel Shape  (Charcoal) pumps, each for $25.95.  Visit aircork.com for more information or to order.

The G-RO Check-In Classic bag might just check all the boxes when you travel

NEWS – One of the biggest challenges that I face when I am traveling on a plane and need to carry photography equipment and other personal items, is how to do so with the least amount of luggage and luggage that I do not have to struggle with. My carry-on bag usually has mostly photography gear like cameras and lenses and accessories, which leave very little room for all of the other daily supplies I would need like clothes and shoes, etc. Recently, I have used spinner luggage, which has been better than my previous luggage, but still presents a challenge when I have to walk for a while after disembarking. Many times I have tripped over or dropped my luggage because of the awkwardness involved with pulling luggage that is usually unbalanced and I usually have to carry one piece in each hand.

However, there is hope!! I have been looking at luggage from G-RO for my next trip. G-RO makes the Check-In Classic that is a “large-capacity checked bag/duffel equipped with indestructible GravityRoll™ Wheel Technology and thoughtful organizational features like a dedicated compartment for shoes and an expansion system that increases volume from 80L to 90L.” It also includes a luggage strap for attaching an additional bag. The size and guaranteed balance mean that I can cram every daily item that I would need into it and then strap on my photography gear carry-on and move quickly through the airport with one hand free and without the fear of my luggage tipping over and/or tripping me especially on uneven surfaces

Here’s a short video on how capable this bag is.

The Check-In Classic by G-RO comes in about 6 different color options and is available on the G-RO website for $475, with the option to pay for it in installments.

IMStick smartphone mounts, Gemini portable 4K monitors, Stackrack fitness equipment, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

NEWS – This week I’m bringing you four Kickstarter crowdfunding campaigns and one from Indiegogo. Four of the products are EDC items and one is a fitness product. Let’s check them out.

IMStick – your phone’s best friend accessory!

What is it?

IMStick is a magnetic mounting device for your smartphone.

Why do I like it?

I think the IMStick is interesting concept for a device mount because it uses magnets and bendy arms that you can bend/mold to make the mount do whatever you want. I also like that you can remove it when you don’t need to use it since it attaches to the back of the phone with a magnet.

Where can I find more info?

The IMStick campaign ends on 3/2/19 and they have already met their funding goal of $6,535. You can pre-order an IMStick starting at $21. After the IMStick campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in April 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

TAIHE Gemini portable monitor

What is it?

The Gemini is a 15.6″ FHD touchscreen or 4K UHD battery powered display.

Why do I like it?

The Gemini reminds me of a Surface tablet because it has a similarly designed kickstand. But the Gemini isn’t a tablet, it’s really an ultra-portable monitor that connects to your devices using USB-C, mini HDMI, mini DP, etc and one version features a touchscreen which would make it a pretty cool add-on for playing games on your phone or Nintendo Switch.

Where can I find more info?

The Gemini campaign ends on 2/18/19 and they have already surpassed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a Gemini starting at $219. After the Gemini campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in May 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

The Straprack Home Fitness Gym

What is it?

The Straprack is a door frame mounted multi-function home gym that can fold out of the way or removed easily when it’s not being used.

Why do I like it?

Unlike other door frame mounted fitness equipment that I’ve seen before, The Straprack offers more than just a way to do pull ups. You can also use this affordable home gym to do leg raises, dips, and TRX style strap workouts.

Where can I find more info?

The Straprack campaign ends on 2/10/19 and they have already met their funding goal of $25,000. You can pre-order a Straprack starting at $125. After the Straprack campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Evo-The Smallest Global Travel Adapter

blurb by Andy Jacobs

What is it?

The Evo is a travel adapter for electronic devices that can be used in multiple countries despite its extremely small and compact size.

Why do I like it?

I travel outside the USA for work a few times per year, and when I do, I like to travel as light as possible (I’m a One Bag Travel guy with my GORUCK GR2 backpack). I own a couple of travel adapters that work fine, but they are a bit bulky. The Evo is downright tiny by comparison. It’s only 0.8×1.2×2.7 inches and 1.76 ounces in weight. That’s pretty small. It can be used in the USA, UK, EU and Australia (and probably other places in the world as well, depending on their electrical prong setup—over 150 countries in all). If that’s not enough, in addition to its main charging outlet, it also has two standard USB ports, all three of which can be used simultaneously. And those are just the highlights.

Where can I find more info?

The Evo campaign ends on February 27, 2019. To date, 2754 backers have pledged over $92,000, already zapping (pun very much intended) the campaign goal of $1,000. Pledge packages start at $22 for a single Evo shipped to the USA and increase from there based on the options selected. Visit the Evo campaign site for more information or to become a backer.

High Five® – The Most Compact 5in1 Charging Cable

What is it?

The High Five is a 5-in-1 USB charging cable that you can easily carry on your keychain.

Why do I like it?

I like the High Five because it’s one very portable cable that can be used with devices that use USB-C, micro USB, and lightning connectors without being bulky.

Where can I find more info?

The High Five campaign ends on 2/17/19 and they have already met their funding goal of $17,079. You can pre-order a High Five starting at $16. After the High Five campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in May 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.
