Totallee takes a break from smartphone cases with their new wireless charging pad

NEWS – It seems like everyone makes a wireless charger nowadays. Totallee known for its ultra-thin smartphone cases is the latest to dip their toe into the wireless charger pool. I have one of their ultra-thin cases on my iPhone Max XS, and I love it.

Much like their cases, the wireless charging pad is a minimalistic design that is almost Impossibly thin (.25″). The pad is square with rounded corners. The modern design is kind of cool in its simplicity.

It offers fast charging with speeds up to 10W, although the 10W speed is only applicable if you have a Samsung device. If you own an iPhone the max charging speed is 7.5W. The pad does require a QC 2.0/3.0 adaptor for fast charging (not included).

The charger also features an LED indicator light, overheating protection and foreign object detection. And of course, it’s compatible with all of Totallee’s cases.

The Totallee wireless charging pad is available for pre-order on their site for $49, with a shipping date of 9/4.

The Saddleback Leather Messenger Backpack brings back a classic design in a new format!

NEWS – When Saddleback Leather first started out, one of their original products was a simple messenger-style bag. It was a great design that also converted to a backpack in a pinch. I know many owners who modified theirs for full-time use this way, arguing that the big square form factor worked better that way. While the original messenger bag has been retired, Saddleback Leather just retooled the design and released it as a dedicated backpack!

The new Messenger Backpack follows the dimensions of the old design at 14″ by 13″ by 4-1/4″, and weighs in at a comfy 4.3 pounds. Two side-mounted pockets hold water bottles or cell phones, while the interior includes a dedicated pocket for a 15″ laptop, a couple of small pockets for extra bits, a secret bottom to hide important stuff, and a built-in key leash. Dedicated backpack straps are attached on the rear of the bag, which also has multiple D-ring attachment points to lash all kinds of things.

I know some long-time Saddleback fans (like me) will be excited about this one. It looks like a perfect marriage of form and function. It retails for $379 and is available in 4 different colors. Check it out on the Saddleback Leather Messenger Backpack page!

Say goodbye to smelly and clogged drains with FOG Safe drain guards

NEWS – I love bacon, but I don’t like the grease it leaves behind. There’s just no good way to get rid of it. I keep it in a jar in my refrigerator along with other leftover cooking greases. I mean it’s not like you can just dump it down the drain. Or can you? With the FOG Safe grease & oil-absorbing drain guards, you can.

FOG safe specifically targets Fats, Oils, and Grease, hence the name. Each grease catcher is made from recycled paper and absorbs up to four ounces of oil (about the amount of grease from a pound of bacon)

FOG Safe fits all standard size drains. So no more worrying about clogs, smells, or backups. The drain guard can also be used on the counter or inside the sink.

And cleanup is easy. Once all of the oil is absorbed, toss the drain guard into the trash.

The FOG Safe grease & oil-absorbing drain guards come in packs of nine. You can purchase them from The Grommet for $14.95.

Tom Bihn’s brand new backpack looks strangely familiar…

NEWS – Look, you all know that I love Tom Bihn products. They’re among the best in the carry business when it comes to build quality, durability and usability. But one of their strongest qualities is how they actively solicit customer feedback to continuously evolve their designs. And they’re not afraid to make changes or to try new things.

Which leads us to the Synik, the latest backpack from Tom Bihn. The Synik is based on the much-loved Synapse, incorporating a number of new features. It’s an intriguing set of upgrades that, to me, give the Synik more flexibility as a traveling companion in addition to day-to-day use.

  • Slightly bigger sizes (22 Liters and 30 Liters).
  • A clamshell/panel style full-length opening to the main compartment, which now includes internal tie-down straps (great for overnight packing!).
  • Internal and external laptop compartment access.
  • Redesigned shoulder straps.
  • An upgraded grab handle, and new rolling luggage handle pass-through.
  • Additional padding and o-rings.
  • Internal frame & aluminum half-stay.

I’ve never met anyone who owned a Synapse and did not completely love it. I’m intrigued to get my hands on one of these, and see how they compare!

The Tom Bihn Synik is available for pre-order now, with delivery in late October. You can check out the in-depth FAQ here about the design (including the name choice). You can visit the Synik 22 page or the Synik 30 page for more info and to get on the list!

Messenger bag fans, it’s time to grab your wallet

NEWS – My favorite style of EDC bag is a messenger style bag. Although I’ve never given a backpack a real try (should I?), I have been carrying a messenger bag with me to work for as long as I can remember (decades even).

One of my favorite bag designers is WaterField Designs in San Francisco and they recently announced the Executive Leather Messenger bag and it’s a stunner. The bag is available in two sizes and is handcrafted from full-grain leather that gives it a rugged but classy look that will only get better with time, wear and tear.

The Executive Leather Messenger bag features WaterField’s signature gold interior that makes it easier to see all the small items that tend to fall to the bottom of the bag, and several organization pockets that are designed to hold up to a 15-inch laptop, tablets, and your daily gear.

This bag is available in 2 leather styles including the grizzly leather version shown here and a black leather version. You can order one for $379 – $399 depending on the size you prefer: compact or full, and it will ship within 5 days. Head over to sfbags.com for all the details.
