Saddleback Leather drops a redesigned, lighter version of the Tank Backpack

NEWS – The original backpack by Saddleback Leather earned the nickname “The Tank” due to it’s beefy and nearly indestructible construction. A “Squared” version of the design was later released that introduced some streamlining, but still was pretty weighty. I have stalked this bag for years but was always concerned about the 8 pounds plus unloaded weight as a daily carry.

Today the folks at Saddleback are announcing the latest iteration of the design, which features some of the streamlining that was introduced in the last generation while trimming the overall weight down to an EDC-friendly 5.5 pounds. It also brings back an internal laptop sleeve and a key leash in the main compartment (yay!).

If you want to jump in early Saddleback Leather is offering a special limited edition first build which includes unique numbering on each bag in the run. After these are sold, the bag will go into backorder in anticipation of regular production. List price is $579 for the first run. Go check it out at Saddleback Leather’s Web Site!

Get your colors right with Datacolor SpyderX

NEWS – Monitor calibration has long been a staple activity of professional photographers.  Monitors inherently have variations that affect how colors are displayed.  Couple that with changes in ambient light in the room, due to sun angle, cloud cover or electric light type and the colors you see on the monitor can really change.  Without calibrating your monitor, those amazing colors you see when editing your photos could look completely different when your photos are printed.

Calibration tools have typically been cumbersome, slow to use and require some advanced knowledge to get good results.  Datacolor has been a player in the calibration tool market for many years and has offered Spyder calibration tools that help photographers ease that burden.  Their new SpyderX Pro and Elite are the latest versions of that popular tool.

SpyderX offers a one-click wizard and can calibrate your monitor in less than two minutes. For users that require more monitors for their workflow, the software can calibrate multiple monitors, .  Having all your monitors look exactly the same is a huge benefit when dragging windows from monitor to monitor.

SpyderX is available in two versions.  The Pro version is targeted at serious photographers who want to ensure that their image colors match their original vision.  The Elite version has more advanced settings for professional photographers. With its ease of use and speed, SpyderX removes any excuses for not calibrating your monitor and getting images with colors you expect. The Pro version is $169.99 and available from Datacolor or Amazon. The Elite version is $269.99 and available from Datacolor or Amazon.

The Electronic Acupuncture Pen takes away the fear of needles

NEWS – For many years I have heard about Acupuncture and the benefits of this treatment/practice. Wikipedia defines Acupuncture as “a form of alternative medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body. It is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine. As such, acupuncture is considered a pseudoscience as the theories and practices of TCM are not based upon modern scientific knowledge.”

To be quite honest, the thought of needles inserted into my body scares me beyond any willingness to try it.

However, I just came across a device called the Electronic Acupuncture Pen. Its ad campaign starts with the following verbiage that immediately grabs my interest.

“Do you want to treat body pains with acupuncture but are afraid to be punctured by needles? Then try the Electronic Acupuncture Pen instead. It’s a painless acupuncture stimulation that activates tissues, firms sagging and aging skin, promotes blood circulation, detoxes the meridians, and helps reduce muscle pain.”

If this is, in fact, true, I would be very willing to give it a chance. The Electronic Acupuncture Pen is available on the Yoga Zen Store website for $79.99, and they are currently having a flash sale offering it at the really low price of $19.99.

Turn over your Gadgeteer game night with UNO FLIP!

NEWS – Gadgeteers love games!  Mattel has launched UNO FLIP!, a new variation on UNO, one of the most popular card games ever produced. UNO FLIP!, a new double-sided card game, plays just like original UNO – try to get rid of all your cards by playing matching color or number cards on the discard pile, while also playing change-direction cards or Draw cards, forcing your opponents to pick up additional cards. UNO FLIP! ups that ante by adding a flip card.

Playing this forces everyone to flip over their cards, revealing different numbers and colors on the dark back sides.  You also flip over the deck and play the dark side cards.  There are new penalty cards including a dreaded Draw 5 card.

UNO has always been a popular game because it is simple to learn, but lets players use strategy to outwit their opponents. UNO FLIP! adds new challenges and should prove to make game night even more entertaining.

UNO FLIP! is available now for $5.99 at Target and Walmart online, is expected to hit store shelves at Target in March and be available globally later in 2019.
