The Wooly Snuffle Mat feeds your dog’s belly and brain

NEWS – In the past, I’ve written about my dog Zoey’s voracious appetite, and my search for ways slow her down during meal time. I recently wrote about the Rock ‘N Bowl dog feeder from Paw5. Now they’ve come up with another item that’s not a bowl but looks more like a shaggy mop than a dog feeder – the Wooly Snuffle Mat.

Here’s how it works. Just scatter the dog’s food directly on top of the shaggy mat then let them go to town. Snuffle Mat actually taps into your dog’s natural instinct to hunt and forage for food.

Like the Rock ’N Bowl, it slows your dog down and makes the everyday routine of mealtime engaging and more fun. But with a softer approach.

It also works as a puzzler to help stimulate fido’s brain.

Snuffle Mat is made to be used with any dry dog food or treats.

It’s fully machine washable for easy cleaning between meals.

The Wooly Snuffle Mat comes in a modern gray color and is perfect for any size, breed, or age dog. You can buy one for your pooch from The Grommet for $39.95.

Field Pen Twist – Notable crowdfunding campaign

CROWDFUNDED – A good pen is a treasure, especially one with a cool style that is durable and writes well.  Machine Era has some very respectable experience in these matters, and their latest Kickstarter campaign—the Field Pen | Twist—looks more than promising, it looks like a big hit.  Let’s check it out!

What is it?

The Machine Era Field Pen | Twist is a compact pen that “fits Parker style refills, has a machined body, tactile details, smooth ‘lock in’ action, and [is] an effortless gel writer from Itoya.”

Why do I like it?

As I’ve stated previously, we like pens here at The Gadgeteer.  Personally, I favor pens that are compact, durable, and have a cool look.  Plus, one of my two current favorite pens is a twist-style.  So when I stumbled upon the Field Twist pen from Machine Era, it immediately caught my eye, particularly the version pictured above.  For starters, it is machined from stainless steel with a Schmidt Easy Glide twist mechanism, an Itoya Aquaroller 0.7mm acid free gel ink cartridge (Parker sized), and a clip made in a New England from spring steel.   It also has subtle tactile grip details, and a balanced center of mass.  Three versions are available: stainless steel in black with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC), a type of PVD coating,  solid brass, and stainless steel.  If all that isn’t enough, the folks from Machine Era’s have experience with pen campaigns on Kickstarter, having successfully delivered two of them previously.

Where can I find more info?

The Machine Era Field Pen | Twist campaign ends on March 31, 2019. To date, over 300 backers have already pledged over $20,000 toward the $6,500 funding goal. Pledge packages start at $65 for a single pen of any of the style, or $195 for a set of all three. After the end of the campaign period, rewards are expected to start shipping in May 2019. Visit the Field Pen | Twist campaign site for more information or to become a backer.

It’s wallet month at WaterField Designs

NEWS – A couple of months ago, WaterField Designs asked people to fill out a survey of what features they wanted in a wallet and with 2,000 participants for this crowdsourced design project, the results are now becoming available with the launch of two new minimalist wallets.

WaterField is introducing the Minemo and the Clyff wallets. The Minemo is the larger of the two compact wallets and will be available in a cool vintage-looking Italian waxed canvas (shown above) or a full-grain oil-tanned leather (shown below).

The Minemo features an outside quick access pocket to hold your most used card and inside are pockets for more cards and cash. Available in 3 colors and with an optional RFID blocking lining (for an additional $10), this wallet is designed to ride in your front pocket. You can order the Minemo now and it will ship on March 15th. Prices are $49 for the canvas version and $59 for the leather (the Blue leather version won’t ship until the end of the month).

If you’re like me and prefer something even smaller and more compact, there’s the Clyff wallet which is a leather card and cash pouch with a quick access pocket on both sides that can hold your two most used cards, and a center pocket that can hold more cards and/or folded cash.

The Clyff wallet is made of oil-tanned full-grain leather and will be available in 3 colors for $39 with shipping due on March 15th (the Blue version ships at the end of the month).

Every week in March, WaterField will unveil two new handcrafted wallets, each pair of wallets has a theme. This week is for minimalists, week #2 will showcase wallets for classic carriers, week #3 will roll out wallets for specialized items and uses, and week #4 will introduce fresh upgrades to existing WaterField wallet favorites. Visit sfbags.com for all the details.

Brush up on dental hygiene with Fairywill electric

NEWS – My 10-year-old is in the market for braces (gulp!). However, at his last dentist appointment, they cautioned that he needs to improve his brushing habits. Otherwise, a mouth full of metal might also mean a mouthful of cavities.

That’s where the Fairywell electric toothbrush (FW 2209 black) comes in.

My son currently uses a kids’ $5 battery-powered model, but it’s awkward and cumbersome. Clearly, he’s having trouble reaching those back molars. And he’s definitely not brushing long enough.

Our dentist recommended a spinning brush head and timer, and this checks both boxes. In fact, there’s a vibration every 30 seconds, to time how long you brush each quadrant, and it turns off completely at the 2-minute mark.

Though it’s not specifically marketed for children, the Fairywell’s small brush head would certainly fit tweens and teens.

We travel a lot, so the 14-day battery life and simple USB charger are appealing (wall plug is not included).

It’s 14.1 ounces, take two AAA batteries (included) and has three cleaning strengths (clean, sensitive and massage).

Plus, with the black handle, it distinguishes itself from my older son’s more popular brand of electric toothbrush. And as a little brother, it’s always a plus to get something different, distinguishing and all your own. Even if it is a toothbrush.

Find the Fairywell electric toothbrush (FW 2209 black) on Amazon for $21.99, including two brush heads.
