This EDC knife is not too big and not too small. It’s just right

NEWS – If you’re obsessed with EDC products like I am, you probably spend way too much time on Pinterest and sites like Best Damn EDC where people like to show off their collections of everyday carry items. I am always confused as to why some people like to carry multiple knives with them each day. Me, I only need one and I don’t want it to be too big or too small. I want it to be just right and I think the SOG KeyTron looks pretty close.

The KeyTron by SOG is a 3.5 inch long (closed) knife that has a stainless steel handle with a large latching keyring on the end that allows you to use the knife as your primary keyring or use it to clip the knife to other gear. Open up the KeyTron and you have a 5.3 inch long knife with a locking blade that’s a good size for most day to day tasks like opening packages, cutting twine, etc. The KeyTron even has a built-in bottle opener so you can pop the top on a cold one.

The SOG KeyTron is priced at $21.95 and is available from Sogknives.com and Amazon.

REFYNE – EP1: The Essential EDC Titanium Bolt-Action Pen – Notable crowdfunding campaign

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Of late, there has been a surge in really cool-looking crowdfunded pen campaigns on Kickstarter.  Here’s another one: the REFYNE – EP1.  Its a minimalist bolt-action pen made from either stainless steel or titanium that looks like it would fit in with your EDC as well as become your favorite desk pen.  Let’s check it out.

What is it?

The REFYNE – EP1: The Essential EDC Titanium Bolt-Action Pen’s name nearly says it all!

Why do I like it?

In general prefer pens that are minimalist and sleek, and I’ve always thought that bolt-action deployment mechanisms look like they would be really fun to use, but I’ve not yet actually tried one.  The REFYNE – EP1 pen combines both of these features.  Made from either black PVD-coated stainless steel or polished titanium, it comes the Schmidt easyFLOW 9000 refill for smooth writing, but will accept any Parker-style refill.  The bolt-action mechanism slides up and down into a sort of “v channel” with a quick finger flick, and copper has been used for the internal sliding component to give a subtle bit of design flair.  Each pen includes a pocket clip that can be removed with a standard Torx T6 bit, so you can go even more minimalist if you prefer.

Where can I find more info?

REFYNE – EP1: The Essential EDC Titanium Bolt-Action Pen campaign ends on April 11, 2019 and they have already met their funding goal of $12,000. Pledge packages start at $39 for a black PVD-coated Stainless Steel pen and increase from there depending on the options selected.  After the end of the campaign period, rewards are expected to start shipping in June 2019. Visit the REFYNE – EP1.  It’s a Titanium Bolt-Action Pen campaign site for more information or to become a backer.

MAGCON is a drawing tool that fits in your pocket – Notable crowdfunding campaign

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – It’s not often that I find a drawing tool that is this cool in the way that it looks and in the way that it works. MAGCON is that tool. Let’s check it out.

What is it?

MAGCON is a pocket-sized anodized aluminum curved and straight ruler combo that can be used as a compass/protractor and is suitable for US letter-sized (A4) paper sheets.

Why do I like it?

I was sent a pre-production sample and I can say that there are several reasons why I like the MAGCON. First of all, it uses…magnets and I’m a sucker for anything that uses magnets.

The center cylinder doesn’t pierce paper like a traditional compass. Instead, it sticks to the paper with a low tack adhesive and then the ruler attaches to the cylinder with a magnet and smoothly rotates around it. It’s a genius design!

If you like to draw or want to be able to easily draw circles and arcs/curved lines and more, the MAGCON tool will let you do that without taking an art class.

Be sure to check out the video above which shows the MAGCON in action so you can see what you can do with this pocket design tool. The way it can be used to draw mandalas really caught my eye.

Where can I find more info?

The MAGCON campaign ends on 4/26/19 they launched today and have already met their funding goal of $1,019. You can pre-order a MAGCON set starting at $30. After the MAGCON campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in August 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

It’s a dessert topping! It’s a floor wax! Gourmia introduces air fryer toaster ovens

NEWS – Unlike the old comedy sales pitch on Saturday Night Live, Gourmia’s combinations make sense.  Fresh off their announcement of new CoolCookers that combine refrigeration with slow or pressure cooking, Gourmia has announced a complete line of combination air fryer toaster ovens.

Catering to the ever-growing market of those of us with limited counter and cabinet space, Gourmia is creatively combining appliances so one item does the job of two or more.  In this case, you get a full-featured toaster oven, technically, already a combo, combined with a capable air fryer.

The air fryer function leverages Gourmia’s AeroCrisp technology for up to 80% less fat in your meals.  The toaster oven can cook with temps up to 400 or 450 degrees, depending on the model. It has multiple rack positions and can toast up to six slices of bread at a time.

The eight new models units are sized from an 18 to 27 quart capacity, 1500 to 1800 watts of cooking power and between 6 and 22 different cooking modes.

Gourmia is ETL certified, meaning that their products have all undergone rigorous safety testing and meet Underwriters Laboratory (UL) standards for safety.

All eight new models will be available later in 2019 at major retailers. Pricing varies between $49 and $199. For more information go to www.gourmia.com.
