Pound nails not fingers with the Safety Nailer

NEWS – I’m the son of a carpenter, but I did not inherit the carpenter gene from my father. Admittedly I’m terrible when it comes to using a hammer and nails. Maybe its because I’m left-handed (or at least that’s what I tell myself), but I either bend the nail, drive it in crooked, or worse end up smashing my fingers with the hammer.

The Safety Nailer magnetic nail holder makes hammering easier and safer.

And it can even be used with screws.

The tool attaches to your fingers using elastic bands and allows you to start nails and screws while protecting your fingers.

It also helps prevent nails from buckling and keeps screws from wobbling.

The large target area is made of impact-resistant ABS plastic, nails are held in place with strong neodymium magnets. There are 3 different size nail groves with the largest capable of holding a size 20D nail.

Safety Nailer is large enough to protect your fingers but small enough that it won’t get in your way while you’re working. And when you’re not using it, it can be stored on your hammer.

The Safety Nailer magnetic nail holder costs $9.95 and is available from The Grommet.

MEZONE TWS earbuds sound great and also charge wirelessly – Notable crowdfunding campaign

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – There have been wireless earbuds for a few years now, but the latest innovation in wireless earbuds is called TWS and it stands for True Wireless Stereo. It doesn’t just mean that there isn’t a wire between each earbud. It means that you can use either earbud or both earbuds interchangeably.

What is it?

MEZONE are earbuds that feature a Qualcomm chip with TWS+ technology, Bluetooth 5.0, touch controls, wireless charging, and they are IPX7 waterproof.

Why do I like them?

Most wireless earbuds work in a master/slave mode where one earphone is the master and the other is the slave. This means that if the master gets lost, damaged or runs out of juice, the other earbud won’t work. MEZONE earbuds aren’t like that. You can use one or both interchangeably.

MEZONE claim that the earbuds are guaranteed to never fall out or cause your ears to get sore. I was sent a pre-production sample of the MEZONE earbuds I can’t completely agree with that claim. They are relatively comfortable, but they would fall out of my ears especially if I had them in while eating. I guess moving my jaw would dislodge them. So you have to take their claim with a grain of salt.

Some of my favorite features of the MEZONE are great sound quality, the touch controls which makes it easy to control music play/pause and answer/end calls without having to press a physical button which jams the earbuds farther into your ears. Ouch. With MEZONE, you can just tap the earbud.

But my favorite feature has to be the built-in wireless charging. You can set the case on any Qi charging pad and it will charge the batteries in the case and the earbuds themselves.

The MEZONE earbuds have a single 8hr charge play time and 80hrs of playtime using the charging case. If you don’t have a Qi charger (one comes with it), you can also use a USB Type-C cable.

Where can I find more info?

The MEZONE campaign ends on 4/28/19 they launched today and have already met their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a pair of MEZONE earbuds starting at $75. After the MEZONE campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Woof – spritz! PetSafe training collars use safe spray for pooch behavior modification

NEWS – Constant barking is one thing that all new dog owners dread.  Stopping your pooch from waking you and the neighbors at all hours of the day or night is tough.  PetSafe has a solution with their new training collars.

There are two new models, a bark collar and a remote training collar.  Both fit pups eight pounds and up with up to a 27-inch neck. The collars are USB rechargeable and have a claimed 40-hour battery life.  They use either unscented or citronella scented recyclable refill cartridges, each good for 35 sprays.

The bark collar uses vibration and sound to determine your dog’s specific bark, eliminating false sprays from barks from other nearby dogs. Once your dog’s bark is detected, the collar emits a short burst of spray to discourage unwanted behavior.

The remote training collar has a digital remote trigger that works up to 300 yards away. It can be used for behavior training with three modes – tone, vibration, and spray. The remote is backlit so it can easily be used both day and night.

Both collars have LED status indicators – red for low battery and yellow for low spray. They are available directly from PetSafe now and will be available from pet supply retailers in April 2019. The Spray Bark Collar is $84.95 and the Remote Spray Trainer is $164.95.

FIXD Automotive puts a VIZR heads up display in your car

NEWS – Many new cars come with a heads up display built into the top of the dashboard. What do you do if you don’t have that option on your new car, or have an older car? Enter the VIZR, a smartphone adapter that creates a virtual display using your phone and an app to give you navigation directions without having you look down at your phone.

The VIZR consists of a base, where you place your phone, and a translucent screen. The base has a non-slip coating so it doesn’t slide around when you’re executing hard turns. Your phone projects onto the screen allowing you to see a virtual HUD for your navigation app. It’s important to note that, because the phone’s display is mirrored, the orientation will be flipped. You will, therefore, need an app that has a HUD setting. The one recommended by FIXD is Hudway Go, although there are others.

The VIZR is large enough that FIXD states that it will work with any smartphone. The base is 6 3/8 inches long with the reflective part being 2 5/8 by 5 5/16. Although large, the VIZR is not big enough to fit tablets or tablet phones.

The VIZR is available directly from FIXD. It’s priced at $39.99 and discounts are applied if you order more than one.

GEESAA Your Home Barista pour over brewer system

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve not only picked up a coffee habit, but I’ve started understanding the differences in types of brewing methods, beans and how a good barista can take a decent cup of coffee to greatness. That’s why I got pretty excited to see the GEESAA – Your Home Barista announce it is starting a KickStarter.

What is it?

This Taiwan based business has brought together a coffee maker system that heats the water to a specific temperature, has a rotating base for the carafe as well as a swing arm dispenser for the hot water that mimics the swirling motion of your barista pouring hot water over the grounds to create your favorite beverage. It is compatible with a smartphone app that is preloaded with recipes from professional baristas but will also allow you to create your recipes.

Why do I like it?

I love that all you have to do is simply select your recipe, put your grounds in the top of the carafe and then let the machine do it’s magic. As an avid coffee drinker, I love the complex coffees and this product lets me have this coffee that I would normally have to go to a shop for or learn how to make myself. The fact it has an app for my phone preloaded with recipes is an added bonus.

Where can I find more info?

The actual KickStarter won’t begin until April, but at this time you can go to the GEESAA – Your Home Brew website and delve into the information they have available. I’m looking forward to seeing how this Kickstarter goes and possibly picking up one of these units myself, as pour overs have become our favorite methods for making a fresh cup. The price point is still unknown, but if you sign up for their e-mail notification you’ll get a $50 discount on the KickStarter.
