ShiftCam is a 6 in 1 dual lens case for the iPhone 7 Plus

Do you consider yourself an iPhoneographer? You’re not alone if you do. By itself, the iPhone 7 Plus has a great camera, but is there a way to make it and your photos even better? The people behind the successful Kickstarter campaign for the ShiftCam Camera Lens Case think so.

What is a ShiftCam? It’s a specially designed case for the iPhone 7 Plus that features a set of sliding lenses that add telephoto, wide-angle, fisheye and macro capabilities to the built in camera.

The lenses are built right into the case so you don’t have to remember to carry clip-on style lenses with you when you are traveling.

The ShiftCam also offers a hand strap and a built-in grip to give your iPhone a true pocket camera feel. Check out the video below to see how the ShiftCam works.

FuelBox will charge your devices when you’re home or on the go

FuelBox looks like a good device charging solution that can be used at home as well as when you’re mobile. It plugs into an existing wall outlet but still allows the use of two 3-prong AC power sockets on the front of the FuelBox charger.

The surge protected power station has two modules. There’s the main charger unit, which plugs into the wall and provides a micro USB cable and a certified lightning cable, and there’s the removable BoostPack that you can take with you.

Magnets hold the BoostPack in place to charge its built-in 5,200 mAh battery while it’s on top of the FuelBox charging dock.

The BoostPack features rapid charging technology and has enough juice to recharge your device 2-4 times.

The FuelBox and BoostPack are available in gray or black versions for $99.95. You can read more about the Fuelbox at myfuelbox.com and you can order one from The Grommet or Amazon.

Fly through TSA checkpoints in a jiffy with WaterField’s new Zip Laptop Brief

Earlier today, WaterField Designs of San Francisco announced their newest bag. It’s a new version of their TSA-friendly Zip Laptop Brief. The Zip Brief is a bag for travelers who don’t need to carry everything, but just the essentials.

This bag has been designed to unzip around three sides so it can lay flat for TSA-airport security.

You won’t have to remove the laptop, just unzip, lay it on the X-ray conveyor surface and you’re done.

The Zip has pockets for your phone, charger, cables, a pen and it even has a strap on the back so it can slip over a wheeled suitcase handle.

The Zip Laptop Brief is available in three sizes to fit PC laptops, 15-inch or 13-inch Macs, or similarly-sized devices. And it comes in waxed canvas or ballistic nylon with leather accents.

The bag is priced from $219 to 239. You can read more about the Zip by visiting www.sfbags.com/products/zip-laptop-brief-tsa.

BioPops are the sea monkeys of the 21st century

Back in the 70’s when I was a young Gadgeteer in training, I remember seeing ads for Sea-Monkeys in the back of comic books that I used to read. I was fascinated by the pictures which showed them as a human-like underwater family that would live and play in a fishbowl. I saved my allowance and ordered my own Sea-Monkey kit and waited for what seemed like years for it to arrive.

I was so excited when I received it, but my hopes were dashed when days later, the human-like family that I expected turned out to be more like tiny furry tadpoles. That was my first lesson in false advertising and I don’t think I ever truly recovered from the disappointment. 😉

Maybe a BioPop can cure that age old scar… What’s a BioPop? It’s a small aquarium with bioluminescent marine algae called dinoflagellates (dinos for short) that glow when they are shaken gently.

The algae are grown in California and live on 8-14 hours of sunlight a day, water, and nutrients from the enriched seawater inside the small aquarium. You also have to feed them once a week with a special food to increase their lifespan.

During the day the algae look clear, but at night when the aquarium is agitated, they will glow to create a mesmerizing light.

BioPops are available in a plastic dinosaur shaped aquarium or in glass spheres. They are priced at $59.95. You can read more about them at BioPop.com  and you can order from The Grommet and Amazon.
