OnePlus 5T goes big with a larger display and improved camera

Today in New York, OnePlus revealed their new OnePlus 5T. With a large 6-inch Optic AMOLED display and an impressive spec list, the OnePlus 5T offers a compelling value at $499. The 6-inch display itself sports an 18:9 aspect ratio, and it has a new Sunlight Display that adapts automatically to harsh light. Most manufacturers get wrapped up into PPI and what not, and they tend to forget about the most practical things like being able to use a device in sunlight, so this is a very welcome feature for us. OnePlus has also made it possible for users to calibrate their screens based on their viewing preferences.

On the design front, OnePlus has changed things up a bit too by moving their ceramic fingerprint sensor to the back of the device. The device itself is made of aluminum. When it comes to optics, the OnePlus 5T packs in a dual camera with “enhanced” low-light performance. The phone is also able to charge up very quickly, with a half-hour charge being able to power the OnePlus 5 through the day.

Of course, the phone comes with a dual camera. Software improvements to its Portrait mode promise to improve noise reduction and make portraits even sharper. OnePlus has also made updates to their OxygenOS to make it faster, cleaner and more customizable based on user feedback. Some new additions to the OxygenOS include Face Unlock.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 5T is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with an Adreno 540 GPU and 8GB of RAM. The OnePlus 5T will be available in a 64GB and 128GB capacity, with the 128GB capacity coming in a midnight black color. The phone goes on sale November 21st.

Spire introduces new Spire Health Tag fitness biosensor

Do you remember the Spire activity tracker that I reviewed almost 3 years ago? Spire is back with a brand new fitness device called the Health Tag. The Health Tag biosensor that is designed to attach to your clothes instead of wearing it around your wrist like the majority of activity trackers on the market. The Health Tag uses advanced algorithms to provide real-time personalized health advice for sleep, stress levels, and your daily activity.

Spire Health Tags are available in packs of multiple tags so you can attach them to the clothes that you wear the most, such as bras, underwear, pajamas and exercise gear. Since there are multiple Health Tags, you don’t need to reattach them to a new shirt each day and you don’t even need to remove them when you wash and dry your clothes because they are waterproof and will survive the laundry cycle.

The small trackers don’t need to be recharged on a regular basis either because the built-in battery will last for almost 2 years!

The biosensor inside each Spire Health Tag tracks your physical activity (via heart rate) and sleep quality. It also tracks your breathing which reflects your stress and calmness levels. When the Health Tag senses that you need to do something it will send actionable reminders through the app to guide you through steps at specific times like:

“It took you 26% longer than usual to fall asleep last night. Got time for a quick breathing exercise before bed tonight?”
“Today you were 22% less active than usual—and 42% more tense than usual. What can you do to turn this around?”
“Awesome workout! You burned 246 cals with an average HR of 163 bpm. You fall asleep 16% faster after working out. Sleep well tonight!”

The Spire Health Tag is available in packs of 3 for $99, packs of 8 for $199, and packs of 15 for $299. You can order now from spire.io

Petcube now allows long-distance relationships with our pets

In 2013, the Gadgeteer introduced the Petcube to the world in the following news post:

Your pet doesn’t have to be lonely when he’s home alone

Now, in 2017, we are introducing the new and improved Petcube Bites for modern and busy pet owners’ homes. The concept is the same– to be able to give our pets love and attention even when our hectic lives are hogging it all, forcing us to be away from our homes. This version of the Petcube contains an advanced camera with 1080p HD video, 138॰ degree wide-angle view, night vision, and 3x digital zoom. Now you’ll be able to see the look on your pup’s face clearly when you call him a “good boy”!

The Putcube’s most entertaining upgrade is its treat-flinger. You heard me… TREAT-FLINGER! Although a variety of treats are compatible with this gadget, each camera comes with a Wellness Petite Dog Treats sample when ordered from Amazon. You’ll never run out of treats because re-ordering is easy with Amazon Dash Replenishment right from the Petcube App. Even if you are present in the smart-home I know you all have… you can simply ask your Amazon Alexa to treat your pet or re-order treats since the two devices are harmoniously compatible.

With Petcube Care, the video cloud recording service that stores video history, your Petcube will also act as a security camera; protecting your home at all hours. It has built-in motion and sound detection, and you can snapshot of the last 4 hours of activity for free, or you can subscribe for optional plans. Everyone starts with a free trial to Petcube Care initially.

Begin your long-distance relationship with your pets by ordering your Petcube from Amazon for $249.00 now!

Ti Arto EDC pen, AmpliFi Teleport, GoBag vacuum compressible backpack, Fidget spinner iPhone case, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

This week we are featuring six crowdfunding campaigns from Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Click through to read more details about these five crowdfunded products.

Ti Arto EDC :The Ultimate Refill Friendly Everyday Carry Pen

What is it?
The Ti Arto EDC is the latest project from Big Idea Design. This is an update to the Ti Arto Pen that I reviewed and still use daily.

Why do I like it?
I love everything that Big Idea Design creates. I use their original Ti Arto pen every day at home and I carry their Ti Pocket Pro Pen with me every day too. I know the Ti Arto EDC will be a successful project and a great pen because everything that they create has been awesome so far. The Ti Arto EDC improves on the original Ti Arto by subtle updates and major updates to the mechanism which allows for 100’s of different pen refills to be used with this pen.

Where can I find more info?
The Ti Arto EDC campaign ends in 35 days and they have already blown past their funding goal of $5,000. You can pre-order a Ti Arto EDC pen starting at $65. After the Ti Arto EDC campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in May 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

AmpliFi Teleport : The Home Wi-Fi that Covers the World

What is it?
AmpliFi Teleport is a small adapter that allows you to connect to your home network’s  AmpliFi router and use the network resources from anywhere in the world.

Why do I like it?
I already know that AmpliFi makes great networking devices because I reviewed the original AmpliFi WiFi router and loved it. I used it exclusively for a year until I switched to a new home broadband provider which requires their own router. I’d love to try out the Teleport because it looks like the perfect device to take with you when you travel so that you can connect to your home network and all the devices at home like your home security, printers, backup drives, etc.

Where can I find more info?
The AmpliFi Teleport campaign ends in 8 days and they are less than $5,000 from their funding goal of $50,000. You can pre-order an AmpliFi Teleport starting at $89. After the AmpliFi Teleport campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2017. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Wolffepack Luna: UltraEasy Baby Changing Backpack Diaper Bag

What is it?
The Wolffepack Luna is a specially designed backpack diaper bag that swings to the front, without the hassle of unstrapping.

Why do I like it?
Dennis reviewed the Wolffepack Metro backpack two years ago and really liked the ability to access the contents of the bag without removing it from his back. The Wolffepack Luna now gives parents that same functionality with this newly designed diaper bag that provides one-handed access even if the other hand/arm is holding baby.

Where can I find more info?
The Wolffepack Luna campaign ends in 19 days and they are currently $5,000 from their funding goal of $19,716. You can pre-order a Wolffepack Luna starting at $89. After the Wolffepack Luna campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2017. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

GoBag | The Vacuum Compressible Carry-on Backpack

What is it?
The GoBag is the ultimate travel vacuum compressable backpack that will allow you to leave your regular luggage at home so you can skip the baggage carousel.

Why do I like it?
Every time we go on a trip, we pack a large rolling suitcase and another smaller rolling suitcase to hold all our toiletry items. rolling the bags around the airport, checking them in, and paying extra baggage fees means hassle and money. The GoBag looks like a great way to avoid hassle and fees because it’s been designed to hold a week’s worth of clothes while still allowing for easy access to your laptop and other gear.

Where can I find more info?
The GoBag campaign ends in 29 days and they have already passed their funding goal of $13,144. You can pre-order a GoBag starting at $163. After the GoBag campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

LUDICASE: Fidget iPhone X case

What is it?
LUDICASE turns your iPhone 6/7/8 or iPhone X into a fidget spinner. No, I’m not kidding.

Why do I like it?
I like it because it’s goofy and fun. Everyone wants to wring out as much juice from the fidget spinner fad as possible and this case is not something I expected. It’s definitely a conversation starter.

Where can I find more info?
The LUDICASE campaign ends in 23 days and they have already passed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a LUDICASE starting at $15. After the LUDICASE campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2017. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

Gravity Museum – Space Exploration Kit on your tabletop.

What is it?
The Gravity Museum is a new project from the same folks that created the MoonDrop project that we talked about this past spring.

Why do I like it?
I like the Gravity Museum because it sparks your imagination and makes you think about other planets besides the one we’re on right now. It looks like a great little table top science lab for kids and adults who are interested in astronomy and space.

Where can I find more info?
The Gravity Museum campaign ends in 28 days and they are still working towards their funding goal of $26,288. You can pre-order a Gravity Museum starting at $92. After the Gravity Museum campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in March 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.
