The Westcott X-Drop Kit (5×7′) Green Screen is just what the Director ordered!

Green screen photography and filming is a very frequent part of in-studio and on-location work. Depending on the shoot, having a portable green screen that can be set up quickly is a great advantage, especially when time and resources can make or break the success of a shoot. While there are tons of green screen options available, I found that I needed something that I could easily carry and set up quickly, and it had to be not too big or not too small so that it would be usable for my one or two-person shoots.

I found just what I was looking for when I purchased the Wescott X–Drop (5×7’) Green Screen kit. This very lightweight kit comes with a very nice machine washable green screen that is 100% polyester, and apart from being wrinkle resistant, it smooths out perfectly once attached to the telescopic legs and arms. A nice carrying case is included, and since it can be assembled and disassembled rather quickly, it is my “go to” green screen.

You can pick one up at B&H Photo Video or Amazon for $119.90.

Tell time in the sweep of a radar screen with this watch from Tokyoflash Japan

The folks at Tokyoflash Japan are back with another of their animated watches.  The Radar LED watch has the appearance of those sweeping screens on a radar or sonar screen.  The watch has two modes of displaying the time: sweeping mode, which highlights three points in turn to indicate the hour and minutes; and flashing mode, where the  LED light beams display hours and minutes at a glance.

The watch has a stainless steel case and adjustable stainless steel, leather, or nylon strap.  The watch case and strap, regardless of type, are black, and you have your choice of blue or green LEDs.  It’s powered by a rechargeable PL301517 watch battery.  It measures 2″ x 1.6″ x 0.4″ and weighs 2.5 – 4.6 ounces, depending on strap option.

The Radar Screen LED watch is available for $189.00 at Tokyoflash Japan.

The Zoom H6 Handy Recorder gives you the quality audio recordings that you really need

For those of us who are also into filmmaking, audio quality and the ability to capture great audio quality whether in the studio or in the field, is a mandatory prerequisite for any good production. I have tried a few portable recorders and I was not quite satisfied with the balance of audio quality and function until I purchased the Zoom H6.

The Zoom H6 Handy Recorder with Interchangeable Microphone System is a great portable recorder with really good preamps that record very clean audio. When comparing quality and cost, it is a winner.

In the box, you will find a 2GB memory card, batteries, XY and Mid-Side microphones, a hard case, Cubase entry level software, a foam windscreen, and a USB cable. The Zoom H6 features 4 XLR/TRS inputs, and records up to 24-bit/96KHz. Its modular interchangeable mic system allows you to use their proprietary shotgun mono or stereo mic or their adapter that adds 2 more XLR/TRS inputs for a total of 6 simultaneous channels. I frequently use their Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule, and it is nothing short of amazing both in quality and its ability to capture clean sound from quite a distance away. The recorder accepts SD cards up to a SDXC 128GB card, which holds an incredible amount of audio in WAV or MP3 format. It provides phantom power for condenser microphones, has a built-in speaker for playback, and 3.5mm line out and headphone jacks. It has a nice 2-inch color display and can be powered by a USB power pack, or 4 AA batteries that will provide approximately 20 hours of continuous recording. It also has a hot shoe mount that makes it easy to add to any rig or recording setup.

Visit Zoom for product details and if you would like to try it and get a great bang for the buck, you can pick one up at Amazon for $349.99.
