It’s hot! Wouldn’t a popsicle be refreshing?

NEWS – With these popsicle molds, you can make your own healthier (or not) cold treats.  These BPA-free silicone molds are shaped like a pineapple and a slice of watermelon.  You fill them with fruit juice, fruit puree, yogurt, or you can use one of the included recipes.  They stack, so they take up less room in the freezer – or less room in the cabinet, if you store them in the winter.  Each mold comes with a reusable stick and with a lid that seals out odors that might be in the fridge.

Each mold has a 3.2 ounce capacity.  They are top-rack dishwasher-safe for easy cleanup.  You’ll set a set of four molds, sticks, and lids, two of each shape.  Right now, Williams-Sonoma is offering this Lekue Tropical Fruit Shaped Silicone Ice Cream Mold set for $9.99, down from the normal $16.00 price.

The Wet-It Swedish dishcloth may spell the end for paper towels

NEWS – I’m one of those people that uses paper towels for everything. I don’t even want to know how much I actually spend on paper towels in a year. The Wet-It Swedish dishcloths may be the answer to my paper towel gluttony.

The Wet-It Dishcloth uses a special weave that’s super absorbent, one cloth can do the work of 6 paper towels. Made of 70% cotton and 30% cellulose the dishcloths are soft, non-abrasive and durable. And they are reusable for up to six months or longer.

The best part is they can be used for just about anything. Cleaning countertops, stoves, scrubbing in the bathroom and even doing the dishes. Unlike paper towels the Wet-It dishcloths don’t streak, so they’re perfect for cleaning windows.

To clean them just put them into either the dishwasher, microwave, or washing machine.

The dishcloths are also fully biodegradable.

Each dishcloth measures approximately 8″x7″ and comes in packs of 3 with your choice of design; veggie, fruit or chickens.

The Wet-It Swedish dishcloths sell for $14.95 and are available on The Grommet.

Filtrete Smart Air Filters add another layer of intelligence to your home HVAC system

NEWS – Smart thermostats have smartened up your home’s HVAC unit, but it was still up to you to know when to replace the filter to ensure your unit is working in top form.  But now, Filtrete has introduced smart filters that can monitor their own performance to let you know when you should change filters to keep the airflow clean and efficient.  Filtrete Smart Air Filters monitor air flow through the filter, the amount of usage, and the changing air pressure, not just time, to tell you the optimal time to replace the filter.

The filter’s sensor connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth.  You tell the app about your home – types of pets, smokers, people with allergies or respiratory problems living there, and the number of Smart Filters in your home.  The Filtrete app displays information about your local outdoor air quality, and it can provide you with tips to improve the quality inside your home.  With the addition of an optional indoor air sensor, it can also monitor the indoor air quality.

It continually monitors the condition of the filter and displays that information on-screen.  And when it’s time to change the filter, the app will remind you of the type and size filter you need and where to purchase it.

Learn more about these smart air filters at the Filtrete website and you can buy one for $32 to $56 on Amazon.
