Sony’s new WF-1000XM3 wireless noise canceling headphones give you all of the music with none of the noise

NEWS – Sony is bringing their “A” game with their new WF-1000XM3 headphones.  Fully wireless, the earbud style headphones are fully wireless, provide long battery life and my holy grail for headphones – noise cancellation.

With dual microphones on each earbud, the headphones pick up noise in both the forward and backward directions along with Sony’s new QN1e noise canceling processor, Sony claims that these buds provide superior noise cancellation.

Each bud has a 0.24″ driver to deliver outstanding sound. Sony then adds their Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX (DSEE HX™) software that upscales compressed digital music files to bring them closer to the quality of High-Resolution Audio.

Sony has also upgraded its Bluetooth processing to provide a more stable connection. The previous model received the signal in one bud and relayed to the other.  In the upgraded model, both buds receive the transmission simultaneously. An improved antenna also adds to Bluetooth reception and stability.

The buds are designed to fit comfortably all day.  The three-point contact design combined with high-friction rubber tips should hold the buds securely and comfortably through daily activity.

All-day comfort is a great thing as the battery life is claimed to be six full hours with noise cancellation on and eight hours without noise cancellation. The battery case is good for three additional charges. A ten-minute quick charge will deliver up to 90 minutes of play time.

Sony also added a smart sensing engine. Placing a finger over the bud immediately lowers volume and allows ambient sound in, allowing for conversation without removing an earbud.

The sense engine also allows for dynamic sound customization based on your current activities, like traveling, where you want to get lost in your tunes, or waiting, where you want to hear announcements.

The headphones are compatible with Google Assistant, offer hands-free calling, and additional touch controls. You can read more about all the features and specs at Sony.

The headphones are expected to ship in August and are available for pre-order for $229.99 at select Sony retailers, like Amazon.

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Here are four Kickstarter campaigns that caught my eye this week. Let me know if these products interest you too or if I missed a really good campaign that I should talk about.

TRIO: The on-the-go dual & triple screen laptop monitor

What is it?

TRIO is a magnetic dual monitor setup for your laptop.

Why do I like it?

I like TRIO because it lets you add additional screen real estate to your laptop at home and even on the road without having to lug large heavy traditional monitors. I’d love to use this at home with my MacBook and ditch my regular monitors just because it looks like it would save me some desk space.

Get™: Hi-tech bracelet with bone-conduction technology

What is it?

Get is a wearable bone conduction headset for your phone that transmits sound from your wrist through your finger into your ear.

Why do I like it?

I like Get because it’s a futuristic way to take calls while you’re on the move without having to use an uncomfortable headset. I’m not sure how it sounds to use tech like this, but you can’t deny that it looks really cool. The only downside is that it isn’t “handsfree” since you do have to hold your hand up to your ear to hear the audio.

What is it?

The Pocket Guitar Stand is exactly what you would guess it is It’s a guitar stand that fits in your pocket.

Why do I like it?

I like The Pocket Guitar Stand because it’s much nicer looking than the ugly metal stands that I have for my guitars. The Pocket Guitar stand is made of wood and you can take it with you when you travel with your guitar. Heck, I’d like to have one (or three) for my house!

Elago’s back with another Apple Watch stand that pulls at our retro heart strings

Elago, the company that has given us Apple Watch stands with a retro twist like W3 and W4 stands, is back at it again. The W6 stand for Apple Watch is designed to turn your Apple Watch into an iPod classic, complete with the iconic click wheel.

Like its predecessors, the W6 is made of scratch-free silicone which protects the Apple Watch when it’s sitting inside the stand. And prevents it from moving around when resting on a surface. It works with all Apple Watch models and is compatible with Nightstand Mode.

It’s easy to use, simply place the Apple Watch charging puck into the cutout. Then simply slide the Watch into the opening at the top of the stand. The watches display lines up perfectly, making it look as though it’s the display of the classic music player.

The Elago W6 Stand comes in classic white or black. Right now you can pick up the white version from Amazon for $12.99. If you want it in black, it’ll cost you a couple of dollars more. Still, not a bad price to pay for a little bit of nostalgia.
