Dress your new iPhone X in blue jeans with this unique case

Here’s something you don’t see every day. An iPhone case made out of blue jeans. Yes, you read that right I said blue jeans. The ‘Solid Denim’ iPhone case designed by the small UK company Mosevic, is made out of layers of denim that is infused with a carefully selected resin resulting in a composite material that is durable, shock absorbing and flexible, perfect for building high quality, striking and tactile iPhone cases. Another unique thing about this case is that it’s made using denim from recycled jeans. Mosevic takes discarded and damaged jeans and reclaims the denim fabric. Each handmade case is built from layers of different denim, making every single case unique. Add some soft plastic buttons to control power and volume and you have a pretty cool and definitely unique iPhone case. You can pre-order the case right now on Mosevic’s website for $52.50. It will be available for the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus, 7 and 7 Plus models and will start shipping the week of November 27th. Just in time for the Holidays.

totallee $29 thin leather iPhone X case review

Even though I had many high end iPhone 7 cases to choose from, the case that protected my smartphone the longest in 2017 was the totallee $29 thin leather iPhone 7 case. I found its simple, minimalistic design perfect for protecting my iPhone from minor bumps and scrapes without taking anything away from the look and feel of the device itself. So, when I decided I was going to upgrade to the iPhone X, I immediately checked to see if totallee was planning on creating a similar case for Apple’s latest & greatest. Thankfully they have and sent one my way for us to check out.

Truth be told when you pull the totallee case out of its packaging it doesn’t really impress. Not at all actually… It feels very thin, plasticky, and flimsy. But once you insert your iPhone X into the case, it takes on a whole new personality. The totallee case feels great on the phone, adding grippability and protection without any added weight or bulk to the sleek and slim device.

The case itself is made from polypropylene and is a mere 0.02″ thick, weighing in at 0.1 oz. The totallee leather iPhone case features an ultra-thin lambskin leather backing that is inset into the plastic. The case is perfectly fitted for the iPhone X, having a very tight fit with zero gaps whatsoever. totallee’s goal is to: keep your iPhone looking like an iPhone.

The totallee case perfectly wraps around all sides of the X but does not extend above the screen. Which I actually prefer in a case so your thumb and fingers can flow/swipe on & off the screen without bumping into any edging. The case works well with a screen protector, as seen installed in this pic.

This case snaps-on the smartphone and covers/protects nearly all of the iPhone’s sides and back. Instead of push-throughs, the totallee case has well-fitted cutouts that allow access to the iPhone’s mute, volume, and power buttons. The buttons themselves are slightly recessed but are easily pressed when desired.

The case covers the entire top of the iPhone. The X’s camera bump is perfectly flush with the case.

The right side has a single cutout for the Siri/Apple Pay/power button.

The totallee case has a cutout for the lightning connector and speaker holes on its base.

totallee backs their cases with a hassle-free, 2-year warranty.

Like its siblings, the totallee $29 thin leather iPhone X case is great minimalistic protection for the latest and greatest iPhone on the market. This case adds little bulk or weight to your smartphone while providing decent protection from bumps, nicks, or scrapes. Though it wouldn’t add much drop or impact protection. The totallee case does not interfere with the iPhone X’s ability to wirelessly charge. Just like its predecessor: The totallee thin leather iPhone case is well made/engineered from solid materials, designed to keep your iPhone looking and feeling as Apple intended while adding grippability and protecting it from the outside world.

Julie’s gadget diary – It’s iPhone X day and I’m not feeling left out (really, I mean it)

Today’s the day Apple fan boys and fan girls have been waiting for. It’s the day ordinary people can get their hands on the iPhone X. And when I say “ordinary”, I really mean you because I didn’t order one like I had originally planned after watching the Apple iPhone X unveiling event back in September.

But let me back up… This past summer I had a 3-month phonemance with an iPhone 7 Plus. Like most flings, the chemistry between us was good for awhile, but soon the initial attraction wore off and I found myself daydreaming about that cute little green Android. I ultimately had to sit down with the iPhone 7 Plus and have a talk that went something like this.

Me: “iPhone, you look really nice tonight, is that a new wallpaper?”
iPhone:
Me: “Look, I think you’ve been feeling this for awhile too… things just aren’t working out between us anymore.”
iPhone:
Me: “No, no, it’s me, not you. You’ve been great.”
iPhone:
Me: “You have a lot going for you, a great display, great apps, and great accessories. I’m just not feeling the spark between us anymore and I think it’s time to move on.”
iPhone:
Me: “iPhone, you’ll always have a place in my heart, but right now this isn’t our time.”

Whew, that was brutal. A few days later I traded the iPhone 7 Plus for an original Pixel XL and I haven’t looked back. Ok, maybe I did feel a few pangs of regret with the lead up to the iPhone X pre-order day, and the constant chatter about the iPhone X from fellow Gadgeteer writer Dave Rees. But none of the talk and online glam made me want to order one. I ordered the Pixel 2 XL instead and have been happily using it for the past 2 weeks.

Does that mean that I don’t want to get my hands on an iPhone X if only for a few fleeting moments of consensual fondling? No way. I’m The Gadgeteer after all and with that title comes a very high level of gadget curiosity. I will check one out. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.

Those of you who are getting the iPhone X today, congrats! I hope you have a long and healthy phonemance. Let us know your first impressions in the comments below.

BTW, who else out there can’t seem to call the new iPhone the iPhone 10 instead of the iPhone “ex” all the time?

While you wait to pre-order the iPhone X, shop for a case to protect it

Whenever top-tier companies like LG, Samsung, and Apple roll out a new smartphone, my inbox starts bursting at the seams with emails from vendors who are excited to announce cases and accessories for the new devices. As you would guess, since this past Tuesday, I’ve been drowning in emails about new iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X cases. I spent the afternoon going through all those emails and picked some of my notable iPhone X cases to share with you.

EasyAcc

EasyAcc sent me a few of their iPhone X cases before the iPhone X was officially announced this week. The cases were so new, that they were called iPhone 8 cases on the packaging!

We’ve reviewed EasyAcc products in the past and have been happy with the quality with budget prices which will be important once you spend a grand or more on the new iPhone X.

At the time of this writing, EasyAcc is offering eight cases that range in price from $7.99 for the Thin Fit Slim Soft TPU Protective Cover with Matte Finish (shown above), to the $12.99 Armor Design Protective Hard Back Shell Cover Dual Layer Protection Shockproof Bumper Case.

You can see all the EasyAcc iPhone X cases on Amazon and you can save 30% if you use the code 794IJYCN (expires 11/30/17).

CalypsoCase

On the other end of the budget spectrum, we have luxury iPhone X cases from CalypsoCase which are made in Europe. The cases are available in several styles and colors that include the Cabrio which is shown above, as well as a book and slipcover style case. You’ll need to sit down before I tell you the price. Ready? The price for the cases is $249. Whew! The cases start shipping on 10/24/17.

You can check out the Cabrio, Silhouette, and book cases at www.calypsocrystal.com.

Rokform

Let’s go back to a case that doesn’t require that you put a kidney on eBay. Rokform offers cases like the new iPhone 8 Crystal Cases that have their patented twist-lock mounting system built in that will let you mount your phone on bicycles, motorcycles, cars, and more. A magnetic car vent mount is included with the case which is priced at $49.99. You can pre-order it now at rokform.com

Nomad

I really like the look of the Nomad cases for the iPhone X. The Clear Case X has a unique design with a section of Horween leather that has been fused to a polycarbonate case with a rubber TPE bumper. The Rugged Case X has an all leather back. Both are only $39.95 and you can save 10% if you give them your email address when you order. Visit www.hellonomad.com for all the details.

Grovemade

If you prefer a phone case that uses wood to one that uses leather, the new Minimalist Tough case from Grovemade might be more to your liking. It features an aluminum frame that is wrapped in an elastomer band and a back made from Walnut. I’m not quite sure if the term “minimalist” is a good one though as the cases at least in the images on their site look pretty thick and bulky.

I don’t agree with calling it a “minimalist” a case though as the images on their site make it look thick and bulky.

You can pre-order the case for $99, but be aware that it doesn’t ship until December. Visit Grovemade for more info.

So there are a few ideas for iPhone X cases. Which one looks the most interesting to you? I’m leaning towards the super thin and super inexpensive EasyAcc or the Rugged X case from Nomad.

Julie’s gadget diary – iPhone X-citement

I left work early this afternoon just so I could go home and watch the iPhone X Apple event in real time instead of reading live streaming commentary from a big site like Gizmodo or The Verge. I started out watching it on my 12″ MacBook but a few minutes into it, I had a light bulb moment and hooked up my iPad Pro 10.5 to my 65″ Hisense H8 4K TV using an Apple Lightning HDMI adapter for an ultimate viewing experience.

While the event was playing on the TV, Dave Rees and I were using iMessage to chat about the new hardware announcements as we were seeing them. Not that any of the info Apple talked about today was news to us since there have been eleventy billion leaks leading up to today’s event.

However, there was one little surprise right before the iPhone X unveiling that almost brought a tear to my eye…

Yes, we’re geeks and we embrace it.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but when it was all said and done, the iPhone X unveiling felt a little flat to me. I guess because the bulk of the event was spent talking about the Series 3 Apple Watch, new Apple TV, and the new iPhone 8 devices. It felt like they only saved about 30 minutes (I’m guessing on the 30 minutes, maybe it was more or less) of the 2 hour event for the news that all of us were really waiting to hear the most.

Does that mean I’m not going to order the iPhone X? Heck no. I’m definitely going to order one on October 27th. Ugh, that wait time (and the price) really sucks.

I will say one thing, yay for Qi wireless charging! It’s about time Apple! That AirPower wireless charger pad looks really nice for people who own a new iPhone, Watch, and AirPods. It won’t be available until next year though.

Also yay for Face ID. At least I hope I’ll be saying yay once I get a chance to try it. Fingerprint scanners just don’t work every time for me, so I’m really hoping Face ID will work as quick and easy as they make it out to be. That said, the first demo on stage failed! Hmmmmm…

More surprisingly for me, I’m also seriously considering an Apple Watch. It’s crazy but I’ve yet to ever try an Apple Watch. Just yesterday I was talking to Dave about wanting a wearable audio device that I could use to listen to Spotify playlists and/or podcasts while I work out at the gym so I don’t have to carry my iPhone around with me from machine to machine. I was seriously considering dragging out one of my old iPod Nanos to see if it would still work although I’d have to load my own music using iTunes and that sounds too painful because I hate iTunes.

Today when Tim announced the Series 3 Apple Watch with built-in cellular, I thought my wishes had been answered. That and all the talk about the heart rate and other fitness features have me considering buying one. I’m just worried that I’ll buy one and not use it to its full potential. So I still need to think about it.

How do the rest of you feel about the iPhone 8, X, Apple TV, and Apple Watch news today? Excited? Bored? Ready to bust out your credit card on Friday or October 27th (ugh!)? Let us know in the comments below.
