Bristl brings light therapy to the electric toothbrush

No matter how well you brush your teeth, brushing alone doesn’t kill all the bacteria in your mouth nor does it completely prevent yellowing of your teeth, especially as you age.  Germs in your mouth can lead to bad breath, gum disease, and cavities.  Yellowing teeth can sap your self-confidence.  There are treatments for both these issues, but wouldn’t it be easier if you could address both issues just by brushing?  The makers of Bristl, a light-therapy electric toothbrush, say that you can.

Bristl is a sonic toothbrush (12,000 rpm in gentle mode, 24,000 rpm in strong mode) with a 2 minute timer to encourage you to brush long enough to be effective.  For extra effectiveness, Bristl adds patent-pending dual light therapy technology that is “clinically proven to kill bacteria, heal gums, and whiten teeth.”

The light therapy component uses red light, blue light, and purple light (red and blue together).  The red light is said to promote collagen secretion to strengthen gums and prevent and treat gingivitis.  Blue light kills germs that cause gum disease and helps whiten teeth.  Purple light combines all these promised benefits.

The planned MSRP is $99.00, but while the Kickstarter campaign is still active, you can receive a Bristl toothbrush, charger, and 2 brush heads for a pledge of $79.00.  Other pledge packages are available.  The funding goal was met within four hours.  The funding period ends Sunday , April 29, 2018, at 1:00 AM EDT.  Delivery is expected in June 2018.  Pledge for your own Bristl toothbrush at Kickstarter.

Life is too short for dumb nightstands!

I literally searched for years for a pair of vintage, mid-century nightstands that I liked and could afford.  I finally found a perfect pair just last summer, and now I’m ready to throw them out for a couple of these Sobro Smart Side Tables.  These smart tables have every feature I never knew I needed!  And the table is controlled by an app, so it’s the ultimate piece for a high-tech bedroom.

Sobro side tables have a whisper-quiet thermoelectric cooling drawer, so you’ll never have to get up in the middle of the night for a glass of water.  The other drawer locks for secure storage – and of course the lock is app-controlled.  The Sobro table has built-in Bluetooth stereo speakers for cranking your tunes before bedtime.  You’ll be able to charge any device, because the top has a built-in wireless charging pad that can charge two devices simultaneously and the base has USB, USB-C, and 120V power outlets with cable control to keep things neat.  Oh, and the legs are adjustable so you can get the perfect height for your bed.

The back of the nightstand has RGB LED accent lighting (app-controlled), and these lights can also be used to help you wake naturally by simulating sunrise.  And of course, there’s a built-in sound generator that will help you fall asleep, too.  The front bottom of the Sobro smart table has an LED light bar that’s a motion-triggered nightlight to help you find your way safely to the bathroom.  The app lets you select warm or bright-white color for the nightlight and lets you set the brightness and the duration the nightlight stays on.

And of course, this beauty is WiFi-enabled for firmware updates and to allow you to control the Sobro remotely.

Right now, Sobro is on Indiegogo with about a month left in their campaign.  They met their funding goal in less than an hour of going live, and right now they are sitting at about 1736% funding.  The Sobro Smart Side Table is available for a pledge of $379 (plus shipping) for one or $699 for a pair.  These prices reflect a savings of more than 50% off the retail price.  Shipping is expected in October 2018.  Pledge for your own Sobro Smart Side Table at Indiegogo.

Why do I like it?
I like the UGEARS models because they aren’t designed to just sit on a shelf gathering dust, they can actually move. We’ve talked about the UGEARS models before on The Gadgeteer, but the Horse-Mechanoid model is the first one that I’ve actually thought about buying for myself. It would be a fun solo project or as a cool family project.

Why do I like it?
I like the Moasure ONE measuring device because all you need to do is move from one spot to the other to get an accurate measurement even if there are walls and furniture in the way. It can even measure irregular shapes which is always a challenge.

Why do I like it?

I’d love to have one of these in the kitchen because Jeanne seems to always call me when I’m cooking and have food on my hands.

Why do I like it?
I’ve been a huge fan of Brian Conte’s Strong Like Bull Magnets since their original Kickstarter campaign and I’ve been using them at home and at work for years. Brian is an inventor and innovator and his latest creation is the MYO Magnets (Make Your Own), which starts with a super-strong Strong Like Bull magnet and adds a screw-down cap with a transparent window on top. This allows you to customize your magnets by adding a small logo, image, photo, text, or just about anything else.

Why do I like it?
I like the MAGNO Ti because magnets! This pencil looks really cool but when you see how the lead can be extended or retracted by moving the collar on the outside of the pencil, it just makes you want to say wow and try one for yourself. Oh, and it’s made of Titanium too!
