Pitaka MagHive, Razor fountain pen, backpacks, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

This week we are bringing you seven crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. This week’s campaigns are for people who like backpacks, pens, and more. Check out our picks for this week’s notable crowdfunding campaigns.

Pitaka MagHive

What is it?
The MagHive is a modular hub that wirelessly charges your smartphone, and keeps track of your keys, and offers a digital assistant with a touchscreen display that can be used to view reminders, messages left by others, alert you when someone leaves or comes home, and more.

Why do I like it?
Pitaka sent me an early prototype of their MagHive and I like it because it’s a sleek looking modular hub that’s made of hexagonal wooden plates that connect together electrically and magnetically to remind you of what you need to do before you leave the house or office. There’s a magnetic charging module that wirelessly charges your smartphone (has to be Qi compatible), a magnetic NFC module that knows when you place or remove your keys or wallet, and a display module. The display module features a 5-inch touchscreen device that is used to display reminders, notices, voice messages, and more. It works like a digital assistant so you can keep track of you and your family. The whole system can be arranged however you like and can be placed on a table or mounted on a wall. Whenever you remove an item from one of the plates, the display module wakes up and displays any important reminders.

Where can I find more info?
The MagHive campaign ends on 7/8/2018 and they are just beginning their climb to their funding goal of $11,579. You can pre-order a MagHive starting at $215. After the MagHive campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in September 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

ONYXX Wireless Smartphone Charger with Power Bank

What is it?
The ONYXX is a dust and water resistant wireless charger that can be used even when it’s not connected to an outlet and it can be used as a 5000 mAh power bank.

Why do I like it?
I don’t currently have a smartphone that supports wireless charging (unfortunately), but if I did, the ONYXX looks like a nice charger with the extra feature of becoming a backup battery when you’re on the go.

Where can I find more info?
The ONYXX campaign ends on 6/9/2018 and they are just beginning their climb to their funding goal of $12,000. You can pre-order an ONYXX starting at $49. After the ONYXX campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in September 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

AmpPack – World’s First Smart Phone Case w/ Wireless Earbuds

blurb by Andy Jacobs

What is it?
AmpPack is a smartphone case that combines several useful features into a single a product.

Why do I like it?
AmpPack is way more than “just” a smartphone case. It combines a slim, silicone-bumper, drop-protective case with backup battery for your phone and an on board set of automatically-pairing Bluetooth wireless earbuds. Additionally, via wireless Qi or cable, the case can charge itself, your phone and the earbuds simultaneously. AmpPack also has a soft-touch feel and contoured shape. And this is just the tip of the iceberg with respect to the features packed into this case.

Where can I find more info?
The AmpPack campaign ends on 6/16/2018 and they are about halfway to their funding goal of $75,000. You can pre-order an AmpPack starting at $140. After the AmpPack campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Razor: A Minimalism Titanium Fountain Pen

What is it?
The Razor is a CNC machined titanium fountain pen with a modern sleek design.

Why do I like it?
I like the Razor Titanium fountain pen because it has a cool industrial look to it that appeals to me. But the really cool feature is that it can hold two ink cartridges. That means you’ll always have a backup ink cartridge with you when you run out. It also hides another feature that you probably will never need to use. It has a built-in ultra hard cemented tungsten carbide glass breaker on the end.

Where can I find more info?
The Titanium Fountain Pen campaign ends on 6/2/2018 and they have some work to do before they will reach their funding goal of $8,000. You can pre-order a Titanium Fountain Pen starting at $145. After the Titanium Fountain Pen campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2018. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

KableCARD | Multi-functional Cable Essentials For Your Phone

blurb by Andy Jacobs

What is it?
KableCARD is a multi-function charging device that also includes adapter accessories and other features that might just make it your all-in-one solution for travel or commuting.

Why do I like it?
KableCARD is literally packed with features. The main portion is a small, credit card-size clamshell case. The case itself can act as a wireless charger for your Qi-enabled smartphone which can be used laying down or as a device stand/cradle. Inside, it features a 6-in-1, USB Type C cable with multiple adapters to cover just about any device. It also includes a micro SD card reader and SIM ejector pin inside. Outside, it has an ambient light that gives a soft glow that can act as a nightlight or backlight while you watch movies. Pretty sure I’m still missing some features! I’m quite fond of devices that can perform multiple functions, and KableCARD performs quite a few.

Where can I find more info?
The KableCARD campaign ends on 6/16/2018 and they have already met their funding goal of $6,333. You can pre-order a KableCARD starting at $29. After the KableCARD campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

The World’s Most Advanced Modular Backpack

What is it?
The ITR – The One Backpack is a redesign of the traditional backpack into a modular system which adapts what you need by changing its compartments. You can turn it into your camera bag, work & gym pack, suit carry bag, travel pack or use it as a tech-backpack.

Why do I like it?
I like the ITR – The One Backpack because it’s up to you to make it do your bidding by just switching components using a German designed click and go system with magnetic modules.

Where can I find more info?
The ITR – The One Backpack campaign ends on 6/6/2018 and they have already met their funding goal of $10,191. You can pre-order an ITR – The One Backpack starting at $139. After the ITR – The One Backpack campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Breaker One Bag

What is it?
The Breaker One Bag is a backpack for people who like the idea of organizing everything into one bag.

Why do I like it?
I like the Breaker One Bag because it’s made of water and abrasion resistant 840D nylon, offers 12 compartments, 6 organizational pockets, a water bottle holder complete with a drain, a laundry bag, compression straps, accessories pouch, TSA-approved toiletry bag, and a tech organizer for all cords and devices.

Where can I find more info?

Gym in your pocket, portable ultrasonic cleaner, portable air pump, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

This week we are bringing you five crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. This week’s campaigns are for people who like to create media, people who like to workout, people who don’t like smudges, and more. Check out our picks for this week’s notable crowdfunding campaigns.

GRIP&SHOOT CAGE- Pro mobile rig

What is it?
The GRIP&SHOOT CAGE is a specially designed aluminum frame that turns your smartphone into a mobile media rig that can use lenses, microphones, lights, Bluetooth remote, and more.

Why do I like it?
More and more, smartphones are becoming the primary tool for media creaters, and I like the GRIP&SHOOT because it’s device agnostic. Instead of only catering to the iPhone crowd, this device can be used with most smartphones on the market.

Where can I find more info?
The GRIP&SHOOT CAGE campaign ends on 5/31/2018 and they are just starting their journey towards their funding goal of $25,000. You can pre-order a GRIP&SHOOT CAGE starting at $175. After the GRIP&SHOOT CAGE campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in August 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Smartclean Vision.5: A Portable Ultrasonic Cleaner

What is it?
Smartclean Vision.5 is a small ultrasonic cleaner that can be used to clean the dirt, smudges, and oil from eyeglasses and other small items without using chemicals.

Why do I like it?
I like the Smartclean Vision.5 because it looks like an easier and better way to clean my glasses every morning. As it is now, I either use an alcohol-based spray cleaner or regular soap and water. Sometimes my glasses come out clean and other times they look worse than before the cleaning. I like the idea of putting my glasses inside the Smartclean Vision.5, hopping in the shower and having perfectly clear glasses when I get out a couple mins later.

Where can I find more info?
The Smartclean Vision.5 campaign ends in 24 days and they have already reached their funding goal of $15,000. You can pre-order a Smartclean Vision.5 starting at $66. After the Smartclean Vision.5 campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2018. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

Max Pump 2 – the World’s Most Powerful Portable Air Pump

Blurb by Howard Sneider

What is it?
Max Pump 2 is a small rechargeable air and vacuum pump that can be used for inflating and deflating air mattresses, yoga balls, and the like.

Why do I like it?
I like the Max Pump 2 because when you’re camping or traveling, small, well performing, convergent devices are always appreciated. The pump is tiny; smaller than a soda can and only 150 grams. The rechargeable battery in the pump provides up to an hour of use. The pump performs with 10.6 CFM and up to 0.21 kPa of pressure to make life easier when life involves air beds, air mattresses, rubber boats, swimming pools, yoga balls or anything else that’s inflated with low pressure. The pump can also be used along with garment vacuum bags to compact items that normally take up a lot of room, such as sweaters and blankets. Strategically using these vacuum bags on a business trip may save you from needing to check luggage. If that wasn’t enough, the pump is IPX7 rated and can be used to charge other devices.

Where can I find more info?
The Max Pump 2 campaign ends on 6/13/2018 and they have already met their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a Max Pump 2 starting at $25. After the Max Pump 2 campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in August 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

A Gym in your Pocket | MONKII

What is it?
Pocket MONKII is a tiny gym that fits in your pocket for fitness on the go.

Why do I like it?
I like the Pocket MONKII because it’s a convenient way to carry workout gear with you when you travel. It’s more compact than a bunch of fitness bands and you can do a lot more with the MONKII than you can with bands.

Where can I find more info?
The MONKII campaign ends on 6/28/2018 and they have already vaulted past their funding goal of $50,000. You can pre-order a MONKII starting at $99. After the MONKII campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Braza Bro EDC | The Must-Have Pocket & Keychain Mini Tool

blurb by Andy Jacobs

What is it?
The Braza Bro is a locking, keychain-sized, folding-blade knife that is small, lightweight, quickly deployable and razor sharp.

Why do I like it?
I find many folding knives intended for EDC to be too large for me to carry on a daily basis. However, the Braza Bro not only looks to be a perfect size for me to carry daily, it also contains several features that appeal to me, such as a stainless steel, ergonomically-contoured handle, a pocket clip, one-hand “flipper”-style deployment (with ceramic ball bearings), and a frame lock—all in a small, keychain-sized EDC knife.

Where can I find more info?
The Braza Bro campaign ends on 5/31/2018 and they have already met their funding goal of $6,500. You can pre-order a Braza Bro starting at $34. After the Braza Bro campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Xenxo S-Ring smart ring, Reolink 4G security camera, collapsible drinking straws, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

This week we are bringing you four crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. This week’s campaigns are for people who like to keep an eye on their home, people who suck, people who like pencils, and more. Check out our picks for this week’s notable crowdfunding campaigns.

Reolink Go: Wire-Free 4G Rechargeable Security Cam

What is it?
Reolink Go is a small wireless security camera that doesn’t need WiFi to operate because it uses 4G.

Why do I like it?
I like the Reolink Go camera because it doesn’t need wireless internet connectivity where you want to install it. It uses existing 4G-LTE mobile networks like AT&T and T-Mobile here in the US, and other networks (see the campaign page for more info). You have to have your own data plan and SIM card to install in the camera, but after that, there are no additional monthly charges. Also, the camera doesn’t need to be connected to power because it runs on batteries that can be charged with a solar panel. This camera would be a good solution for monitoring locations on your property that are not in the coverage area of your WiFi network.

Where can I find more info?
The Reolink Go campaign ends in a month and they are racing towards their funding goal of $30,000. You can pre-order a Reolink Go starting at $119. After the Reolink Go campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2018. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

Xenxo S-Ring – The World’s Smartest Smart Wearable

What is it?
Move over smartwatches, because now we have smart rings and the Xenxo S-Ring is poised to be a genius in this category because it has almost every feature you’d want on a ring. It’s a fitness tracker, a gesture controller, a wireless headset, and more.

Why do I like it?
I like the Xenxo S-Ring because it combines multiple features that require multiple devices into one small device that you can wear on your finger. If this ring actually gets manufactured (I sure hope so), it’s going to give new meaning to wearable tech. I like the idea of having all those features on my finger and am especially excited about using the ring to make payments and as a wireless headset just because I want to look like secret service agent when I talk into my hand.

Where can I find more info?
The Xenxo S-Ring campaign ends on 5/26/2018 and they are working towards their funding goal of $25,000. You can pre-order a Xenxo S-Ring starting at $179. After the Xenxo S-Ring campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Grafton Mechanical Pencil. Lifetime Guarantee EDC Pencil.

What is it?
The Grafton is a mechanical pencil made of anodized aluminum that has been designed to last a lifetime with a lifetime guarantee to back it up.

Why do I like it?
I like the Grafton Mechanical Pencil because it has an understated style to it. It’s not flashy, it’s classy, minimal, and sleek. It works with .5 mm leads or .7 mm leads with a special reservoir that they can provide as an add-on order.

Where can I find more info?
The Grafton Mechanical Pencil campaign ends on 5/12/2018 and they have already reached their funding goal of $5,000. You can pre-order a Grafton Mechanical Pencil starting at $29. After the Grafton Mechanical Pencil campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

FinalStraw, the world’s first collapsible, reusable straw

What is it?
The FinalStraw is a stainless steel medical grade collapsible tube / straw that fits in a small case.

Why do I like it?
I like the FinalStraw because it solves the issue of too many plastic straws. We have a drawer overflowing with straws in my kitchen from to go cups that we bring home. We save them because we always use straws with our beverages. But straws are like rabbits and multiply rapidly. The FinalStraw looks like a really cool alternative and it even comes with a cleaning squeegee.

Where can I find more info?
The FinalStraw campaign ends on 5/19/2018 and they have already reached and raced past their funding goal of $12,500. You can pre-order a FinalStraw starting at $20. After the FinalStraw campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

I like the Astro folding uke because it’s a uke and because it can fold up into a really small format for easy transport. It also will be available in both an acoustic or an electric version. The electric version can be used with your headphones or into an amplifier.

Where can I find more info?
The Astro campaign ends on 5/27/2018 and they have work to do before they will reach their funding goal of $80,460. You can pre-order an Astro starting at $184. SPECTA The 12-in-1 Premium Machined Pen & Fidget Ball Combo

What is it?
SPECTA is a fidget pen and a fidget ball made from a machined aluminum alloy.

Why do I like it?
I like the SPECTA fidget toys because they feature quiet fidget mechanisms so you can play with them without bothering other people. The SPECTA Pen can be used to write and as a stylus. It features an interesting scale design that you can twist. The SPECTA Ball doubles as a pen stand and offers several ways to fidget including a turning bezel, a button, spinner, and even a bottle opener and a hex bit adapter.

Where can I find more info?
The SPECTA campaign ends on 5/30/2018 and they have work to do before they will reach their funding goal of $59,000. You can pre-order a SPECTA starting at $50. What is it?
Revo Journal is a paper journal that you can “attach” video, pictures, audio, web links, and other memories to using a special app and your mobile device.

I like the Revo Journal because it’s a new way to journal using an analog (paper) notebook with digital journalling tools. With the app, you can scan the QR code on each page in the Revo journal and then attach your digital media to make it easier to revisit the day or event at a later date.

EDC goes modular with Keyport Anywhere Tools

Keyport is one of my favorite companies because they think out of the box when it comes to gear. They started out with the popular Keyport Slide and Pivot key organizers and have now launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for their new Anywhere Tools.

What is it?

Keyport Anywhere Tools take the modular approach that Keyport uses with the Slide and Pivot and have applied it to EDC pocket tools that don’t require a Keyport Pivot or a Keyport Slide 3.0 to carry them.

Why do I like it?

I like the Keyport Anywhere Tools because they are small stackable tools that can be carried in your pocket or clipped to your bag with the Anywhere Tools Pocket Clip.

The Anywhere Tools system includes:

  • Anywhere Pocket Clip – One piece clip that uses the same modular attachment mechanism as both the Pivot and the Slide 3.0; expands the reach of our modular system beyond our universal access devices
  • MOCA II Multi-Tool – 11-In-1; added Philips Head screwdriver, and backstop so that a user can apply significant leverage without having to place a thumb on the product’s spine
  • NEBA Knife – Beefier knife in honor of our fallen team member, Nebiyu Detti
  • Pocket Flare Mini-Flashlight – More than 2x stronger than our original Mini-Flashlight; rechargeable; features edge glow
  • WeeLink Charger Cable (USB – Micro USB / USB – Lightning)
  • RuSH Module Removal Tool – Suspension clip that also assists with Pivot setup (screw/unscrew pin) and module removal
  • ParaPull Paracord Zipper Pulls – Custom pulls that can be added to either the pocket clip or as a D-ring attachment on the Pivot or Slide

Where can I find more info?

The Keyport Anywhere Tools campaign ends on 5/18/2018 and they have just begun working towards their funding goal of $20,000. You can pre-order starting at $18. After the Keyport Anywhere Tools campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in September 2018. Visit mykeyport.com and their Kickstarter page for all the details.
