Seabird 4K camera, Ti toothpick, Soundflux earbuds, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

NEWS – This week we are bringing you info about four different crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. This week’s campaigns are for people who are interested in photography, videography, music, and more.

Pick-iTi – Reversible Fully Titanium Toothpick

What is it?

The Pick-iTi is an EDC toothpick that is made of grade 5 Titanium and features a reversible design and a built-in bottle opener.

Why is it cool?

I like the Pick-iTi because it’s designed to last forever. Instead of using wooden toothpicks that can break or splinter, this one will retain its shape and strength so you’ll always have a toothpick ready to remove that speck of broccoli from between your teeth.

Where can I find more info?

The Pick-iTi campaign ends on 8/31/18 and they are still working towards their funding goal of $3,237. You can pre-order a Pick-iTi starting at $19. After the Pick-iTi campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Seabird -The Most Affordable True 4K Action Camera

What is it?

Seabird is a 4K video / 13MP image resolution action camera like a GoPro but at a quarter of the price.

Why is it cool?

I like that the Seabird action camera can record 4K video @30fps, has a 2-inch touchscreen, and a battery that allows for 90min continuous recording before it needs to be recharged.

Where can I find more info?

The Seabird campaign ends in a month and they have already passed their funding goal of $6,000. You can pre-order a Seabird camera starting at $89. After the Seabird campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in September 2018. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens

What is it?

The Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens from Venus Optics is a unique lens for Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony FE, Pentax, and Arri PL mounts DSLR cameras that has been designed for macro photography enthusiasts. With this lens, you can get up close and personal to your subject while you and the camera itself are farther away.

Why is it cool?

I like the Laowa 24mm f/14 Probe Lens because it is so different than any lens I’ve seen before. The unique tubular barrel of the lens allows you to get into places where a traditional macro lens would be inaccessible. It can be used to take pics up to 2cm from the subject and you can take really interesting video with it too.

Things to consider before pledging

The lens is very expensive!

Where can I find more info?

The Laowa campaign ends on 8/31/18 and they have already met their funding goal of $9,999. You can pre-order a Laowa starting at $1399. After the Laowa campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

SoundFlux – Incredible Sound and Advanced Features

blurb by Julian Perry

What is it?

The SoundFlux by KNZ Technology earbuds claims to be the world’s first dual driver wireless earbuds, with 2 6mm drivers in each earbud.

Why do I like it?

The SoundFlux by KNZ Technology earbuds seem to be truly innovative earbuds that have listed specifications that should definitively provide a product that meets many of the features that demanding listeners want. They include features like stereo phone calls, dual-mic noise cancellation, waterproofing, an extended wireless range of 60 feet, the ability to adjust equalizer setting directly from the earbuds, and lots more

Damascus chef knives, wireless chargers, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

NEWS – This week we are bringing you info about four different crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter. This week’s campaigns are for people who like flashlights, wireless charging, cooking, and more.

BricksPower, first-ever true wireless charger on the go.

What is it?

BricksPower is a portable wireless charger for Qi enabled phones like the iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Why is it cool?

I like the BricksPower because it’s a modular wireless charger that snaps together like LEGO bricks and uses micro suction to stick to the back of your Qi enabled phone. That means it’s more convenient than a traditional bulky powerbank that requires a cable. You can also use BricksPower as a tabletop wireless charger and there will be different shapes of the snap on battery pack that will turn the charger into a phone stand.

Things to consider before pledging

BricksPower only works with phones that have Qi wireless charging capability and the standard battery only has a capacity of 2400mAh which can recharge an iPhone X up to 50-60%.

Where can I find more info?

The BricksPower campaign ends on 9/13/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a BricksPower module starting at $24. After the BricksPower campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

SHIROI HANA – CHEF KNIFE COLLECTION | JAPANESE STEEL

What is it?

Shiroi Hana is a collection of chef knives made of 67 layers of premium steel that create a striking Damascus pattern over an AUS-10 Japanese steel cutting core.

Why is it cool?

I like the Shiroi Hana collection of knives because they are gorgeous. Most people don’t buy chef knives for the way they look, but for the way they cut. Luckily these knives are both. They sent me a pre-production sample and I was extremely impressed. What I really liked was the ergonomic handle comfort and the blade’s insane sharpness that is actually a little scary for someone like me that does not have chef-worthy knife skills. That said, these knives made me feel like a chef and going back to my generic knives is painful.

Things to consider before pledging

Rewards don’t ship until March of 2019.

Where can I find more info?

The Shiroi Hana campaign ends on 9/8/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $32,759. You can pre-order a Shiroi Hana knife set starting at $100. After the Shiroi Hana campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in March 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

KLiPT – The Tool With a Bright Fix!

What is it?

KLiPT is a 4 mode LED flashlight that includes a small clip that doubles as an EDC tool/bit driver.

Why is it cool?

I like the KLiPT because it does more than just shine a 300 lumen light on things. It’s made of titanium, is USB rechargeable, and the handle holds a hex bit and the attached clip doubles as a small multi-tool with a bottle opener, bit driver, ruler, wrench, cutter, and more.

Where can I find more info?

The KLiPT campaign ends on 8/39/18 and they are still working towards their funding goal of $7,385. You can pre-order a KLiPT starting at $51. After the KLiPT campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

EVERYDAY BLADE™ | World’s Smallest Folding Utility Knife

What is it?

The EVERYDAY BLADE is a tiny utility knife that you can put in your pocket or on your keychain.

Why is it cool?

I like the EVERYDAY BLADE because it’s so small and it is compatible with 12 different styles of hobby blades like ones from X-acto. That means that you don’t have to worry about keeping the blade sharp because you can just replace it with a new blade. I also like that the blade locks for safety.

Things to consider before pledging

They sent me a pre-production sample of the Everyday Blade and I love the size of the knife, but the spring loaded opening mechanism pinched my fingertip every time I tried to deploy the blade.

Where can I find more info?

The EVERYDAY BLADE campaign ends on 9/4/18 and they have already met their funding goal of $25,000. You can pre-order an EVERYDAY BLADE starting at $15. After the EVERYDAY BLADE campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in February 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Ti Click Pen, Plexus Wheel+ back pain reliever, Peak Design Travel Line, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

NEWS – This week we are bringing you info about five different crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. This week’s campaigns are for people who like wallets, pens, traveling, have back issues, and more.

Ti Click EDC : The Ultimate Refill Friendly Click Pen

What is it?

The Ti Click EDC is a titanium pen that’s been designed to accept 100+ ink refills without any hacks.

Why is it cool?

I love Big Idea Design’s pens and have reviewed several of them including the Ti Pocket Pro pen which I carry with me every day. It’s my favorite because there’s no cap to remove but I’ve always thought that the pen could be even better if it was a click pen and my dreams have been answered with their new Ti Click! This pen looks perfect and is designed to be the last pen you ever need to buy. Well at least until Big Idea Design comes out with another one that’s too cool to resist. Does this description sound like I’m a shill for them? If it does, I’m sorry, but I can’t help it because I really love their stuff.

Things to consider before pledging

Nothing should keep you from pledging for one of these pens. This is Big Idea Design’s 24th crowdfunding project and they’ve always delivered quality products.

Where can I find more info?

The Ti Click EDC campaign ends on 8/31/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $2,000. You can pre-order a Ti Click EDC pen starting at $70. After the Ti Click EDC campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

OraSaifu: First All In One Smart Wallet

blurb by Julian Perry

What is it?

OraSaifu: is an all-in-one hardware wallet that is designed to offer a high level of security for Credit Cards and Cryptocurrency.

Why is it cool?

It will offer unlimited storage of Cards including credit cards, membership card, etc, and Cryptocurrency, and protect your data with a bank-level security chip. It promises antitheft capabilities and easy recovery. Its built-in battery has 7 days of battery life per charge.

Where can I find more info?

The OraSaifu campaign ends around the middle of August 2018 and they have already achieved well over 100% of their funding goal of $20,000. You can pre-order starting at $169. After the campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

Plexus Wheel+ | The World’s Simplest Back Pain Relief

What is it?

The Plexus Wheel is an easy to use back pain relief tool.

Why is it cool?

I like the Plexus Wheel because it doesn’t require a chiropractor appointment or a physical therapist appointment to use it. Just lay on the floor and roll it under your spine and ahhhhhhhhh. Seriously, this thing is pretty amazing. They sent me a pre-release version and I was impressed by how well it was made and how great the gentle (largest 12-inch wheel) made my tweaked lower back feel after using it just once. Now I’m seriously considering pledging for the other 2 sizes.

Where can I find more info?

The Plexus Wheel campaign ends on 8/25/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a Plexus Wheel starting at $29. After the Plexus Wheel campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in September 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Peak Design Travel Line: Versatile Travel Backpack + Packing Tools

What is it?

The Peak Design Travel Line is a carry-on backpack that has been designed for travel (duh!).

Why is it cool?

I have reviewed three different Peak Design products and carried their messenger bag every day for over a year, so I’m familiar enough with their bags to know that I will like the Peak Design Travel Line Backpack.

I like Peak Design bags because they have a ton of little features that take their bags to the next level for Gadgeteers like me, photographers and everyone else.

The best features of their new Travel Line is that their backpack expands to hold enough for the day or enough for a weekend. Add in their packing cubes for camera gear, tech gear, and clothes, and this system looks pretty much perfect for travelers who want to keep their gear neat, tidy, and always at hand.

Things to consider before pledging

Ouch, the backpack is $200+ so this isn’t a pack for the frugal buyers out there. But, it might be the last bag/travel system you’ll need to buy for many years to come, so there is that.

Where can I find more info?

The Peak Design Travel Line campaign ends on 9/20/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $500,000. You can pre-order a Peak Design Travel Line backpack starting at $235. After the Peak Design Travel Line campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

CORI ✈ The 1st Customisable Travel Pillow

What is it?

The CORI is a travel pillow that you can customize for your personal comfort.

Why is it cool?

If you travel alot on planes or trains, you probably get drowsy during the trip. Catching a few ZZZs is a great way to pass the time between destinations, but not if you get a kink in your neck from trying to sleep upright in a chair. That’s why this travel pillow looks good to me. It can be configured in many different ways to support your neck so that you can rest without pain.

Where can I find more info?

The CORI campaign ends on 9/8/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $7,339. You can pre-order a CORI starting at $31. After the CORI campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Micro veggie growing tray, tiny EDC pen, a toothbrush for dogs, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

NEWS – This week we are bringing you info on ten crowdfunding campaigns that are currently running on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. This week’s campaigns are for people who like indoor gardening, dogs, EDC tools, mobile computing, and more.

Bristly – World’s Most Effective Toothbrush for Dogs

What is it?

Bristly is a specially designed canine teeth cleaner/toothbrush with a channel for toothpaste, soft rubber nubs to gently tartartarter off teeth, and a base that is paw friendly.

Why is it cool?

I like the Bristly because you can load it up with some doggie toothpaste and let your best pal “brush” his or her own teeth instead of trying to do it yourself which isn’t fun for you OR your dog.

Things to consider before pledging

Bristly won’t last forever. The makers claim it’s only effective for 3-4 months. So this isn’t a buy it once kind of product.

Where can I find more info?

The Bristly campaign ends on 8/10/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $15,000. You can pre-order a Bristly starting at $22. After the Bristly campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Lumen: Hack your metabolism & lose weight

What is it?

Lumen is a small device that can measure your metabolism through your breath.

Why is it cool?

I think Lumen is interesting because you can use it to find out if you’re burning fat or carbs in real time. That gives you good info on when you should workout, what you should eat, and when.

Things to consider before pledging

They won’t start shipping rewards until February of next year. That means you’ll already be past your new year’s resolution to lose weight dieting phase.

Where can I find more info?

The Lumen campaign has a little over a month left and they have already passed their funding goal of $50,000. You can pre-order a Lumen starting at $199. After the Lumen campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in February 2019. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

DUO: The on-the-go dual screen laptop monitor

What is it?

DUO is a portable attachable second display for a laptop computer.

Why is it cool?

I like the DUO because it adds more screen real estate to your laptop even when you’re mobile/traveling or even at home if you have a small work area. The 12.5-inch 1080p display is compatible with any laptop and connects with a USB cable.

Where can I find more info?

The DUO campaign ends on 7/24/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $35,000. You can pre-order a DUO starting at $189. After the DUO campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in January 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

NanoPen | World’s Smallest & Indestructible EDC Pen Tool

What is it?

The NanoPen is an aluminum pen with a screen top cap.

Why is it cool?

I like the NanoPen because it’s small enough to attach to almost anything without adding bulk. That means you’ll actually carry it with you and use it. It uses an ink refill that has a Tungsten Carbide tip so that you can use the NanoPen for more than just writing. You can use it as a pseudo knife to open packages.

Things to consider before pledging

The NanoPen is designed to be disposable. It has a unibody so that the pen can’t be refilled. I find that to be disappointing. On the other hand, you get 3 pens per pack. But still…

Where can I find more info?

The NanoPen campaign ends on 9/7/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a NanoPen 3pk starting at $18. After the NanoPen campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

EcoQube Sprout – The First Hydroponic, Stackable MicroGarden

What is it?

The EcoQube Sprout is a 4 in. wide x 11.25 in long x 1.60 in tall stackable seed tray for growing micro veggies/sprouts.

Why is it cool?

I like the EcoQube Sprout because it’s designed to make growing sprouts as easy and mess-free as possible. No soil is needed, no rinsing, no special lights, and no fertilizer. Just add your seeds to the molded pulp seed pad, add water to the tray, and in a week you’ll have nutritious micro greens that you can add to sandwiches, salads, etc.

I recently reviewed the Click & Grow Garden system and am all for having my own little indoor garden like the EcoQube because it’s hot outside and I don’t like the mosquitos!

Things to consider before pledging

The rewards aren’t supposed to ship until May 2019. That seems like forever away. Also, all you’re really getting here is a plastic tray with a specially designed seed pad. It doesn’t come with a light or anything like that, so what’s to stop you from just creating your own version of these trays?

Where can I find more info?

The EcoQube Sprout campaign ends on 8/10/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order an EcoQube Sprout starting at $18. After the EcoQube Sprout campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in May 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

HYDAWAY. The world’s most collapsible water bottle, reborn.

What is it?

HYDAWAY is a collapsible BPA-free, dishwasher safe water bottle that comes in 18 or 28oz versions. We reviewed the original HYDAWAY last year, and now they are back with a new version.

Why is it cool?

I like the new version of the HYDAWAY because they’ve added some new colors and they have redesigned the spout lid of the bottle to have a built-in carbon filter to help your water taste better. The fact that the bottle smashes down to a small form factor means that it’s perfect for travel.

Things to consider before pledging

I don’t see any deal breakers with this campaign.

Where can I find more info?

The HYDAWAY campaign ends on 8/15/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $20,000. You can pre-order a HYDAWAY starting at $21. After the HYDAWAY campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

The EVERGOODS MQD24 and CTB40 Crossover Backpacks

blurb by Andy Jacobs

What is it?

Evergoods launches their 3rd and 4th crossover backpacks, designed and built to go from urban to office to outdoors with ease and understated style.

Why is it cool?

Like their predecessors, the CPL24 and MPL30, Evergoods’ latest backpack offerings have a simple, understated style that almost masks their thoughtfully-designed features and durably-performing build. The Mountain Quick-Draw, 24 Liter (MQD24) is an Alpine climbing-styled pack with a quickdraw drawstring opening. The Civic Transit Bag, 40 Liter (CTB40) is a larger, suitcase-styled travel bag that opens like a clamshell and can also be worn like a backpack.

Where can I find more info?

The MQD24 and CTB40 Kickstarter campaign launched on July 9, 2018 and ends August 13, 2018. To date, 249 backers have already pledged over $57,000 of the campaign’s $45,000 funding goal. Pledge packages start at $149 for a Super Early Bird MQD24 and $199 for a Super Early Bird CTB40. Visit The EVERGOODS MQD24 and CTB40 Crossover Backpacks Kickstarter campaign site for additional details or to become a backer.

Minimaa productivity boosting notebook/planner with clock

What is it?

Minimaa is a paper journal that has a built-in analog clock right in the center of the page and a variety of productivity and goal features included in the pages.

Why is it cool?

How many journals have you seen with an actual clock built right into it?

Things to consider before pledging

The clock in the middle of each page means that there’s a hole in the center of every page. You’re either going to love this feature or be annoyed by it.

Where can I find more info?

The Minimaa campaign ends on 9/14/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $1,302. You can pre-order a Minimaa starting at $27. After the Minimaa campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in November 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Blox: organize your world!

What is it?

Blox is a magnetic modular desktop organizer system made of solid CNC sculpted Walnut and Maple wood.

Why is it cool?

I love wood and I love magnets. Put the two together and what’s not to love? You can rearrange the modules to customize how you like to keep your items organized.

Where can I find more info?

The Blox campaign ends on 8/15/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $1,000. You can pre-order a Blox starting at $40. After the Blox campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

NKMOS Premium Magnetic Modular Mount

What is it?

The NKMOS mount is a modular mounting system for smartphones and tablets.

Why is it cool?

I like the NKMOS mount because it appears to be able to be used on almost any surface from glass to wood and even walls. And it uses magnets! We’ve reviewed quite a few NKMOS products over the years, so they aren’t a new company.

Where can I find more info?

The NKMOS mount campaign ends on 8/10/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $3,677. You can pre-order a NKMOS mount starting at $48. After the NKMOS mount campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Headphones, charging docks, pens, and more – Notable crowdfunding campaigns

NEWS – Today I have a selection of five Kickstarter and Indiegogo crowdfunding campaigns that I think are interesting enough that you’ll want to check them out. Click through to see this week’s notable crowdfunding campaigns.

Heari | Smart tailored audio headphone with Aumeo

blurb by Bill Henderson

What is it?

Heari is a wireless in-ear headphone that uses tailored audio and audio transparency to customize sounds to each ear’s hearing sensitivities.

Why do I like it?

US laws have changed making it possible for audio companies to affordably customize each audio device specifically to the individual. Like a hearing test, Heari uses an iOS or Android app to measure each ear by eight frequencies and adjust the sounds accordingly. The accuracy of the hearing profile setup is 97% of what happens with an audiologist hearing test – now in only 2-3 minutes for about 1/30th of the cost. The headphones have one unidirectional mic so you can focus in and hear just one person talking in a noisy bar—and another mic that picks up other sounds so you can hear everything around you more clearly. Heari is ideal for music and phone calls as well.

Where can I find more info?

The Heari campaign has surpassed its $51,000 goal with 35 days left in the campaign. You can order a single-driver gold edition for $99 US or a dual-driver version for $179 US. Each has an estimated delivery date of December 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Dock Me – The only charger you will ever need

What is it?

Dock Me is a free-standing charging hub for devices with wireless and non-wireless charging capabilities.

Why do I like it?

I like the Dock Me hubs because it allows you to charge multiple devices without having them scattered all over your desk. Instead, there are shelves for the devices so the footprint of the hub is smaller than all the devices by themselves and it keeps your desk tidy.

Where can I find more info?

The Dock Me campaign ends on 7/9/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $7,616. You can pre-order a Dock Me starting at $88. After the Dock Me campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in December 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

ZEROHOUR APEX BOLT ACTION: Titanium Pen + Hidden Multi-Tool

What is it?

APEX BOLT ACTION is a pen with some built-in extras that EDC fans will appreciate.

Why do I like it?

I like the APEX BOLT ACTION pen first for its cool bolt mechanism, and then for the built-in extras like the ceramic glass breaker tip, and hex bit driver in the barrel. And let’s not forget, the pen is made of titanium.

Where can I find more info?

The APEX BOLT ACTION campaign ends on 7/27/18 and they have already passed their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order an APEX BOLT ACTION pen starting at $59. After the APEX BOLT ACTION campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in September 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Bibo Barmaid- Delicious Cocktails in 20 Seconds!

What is it?

Bibo Barmaid is like a Keurig coffee maker but for booze! It takes the mess and guesswork out of making your favorite cocktails.

Why do I like it?

I like the Bibo Barmaid because it’s designed to be the perfect bartender who makes your favorite drink in 20 seconds without the hassle or mess. It uses drink pouches with a code that the Barmaid can read so it knows exactly how to make the drink in a flash. We have a full review of the Bibo Barmaid coming soon. This campaign is for their new stainless steel version of the Barmaid and 3 new drink flavors. But you can already buy the Barmaid through their site if you don’t want the new stainless steel version.

Where can I find more info?

After the Bibo Barmaid campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in August 2018. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

Eclipse: The Morphing Coin Shaped Everyday Carry Knife

What is it?

Eclipse is a circular shaped knife that morphs into a nano bladed knife with a quick press.

Why do I like it?

I like the Eclipse because it’s unique. I’m not convinced it’s ultra useful, but for someone who collects knives and EDC pocket gear, it sure looks cool. It even has a built-in bottle opener.

Where can I find more info?

The Eclipse campaign ends on 8/26/18 and they more than halfway to their funding goal of $20,000. You can pre-order an Eclipse starting at $49. After the Eclipse campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in October 2018. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.
