This bag is perfect for storing and organizing all those little things you carry

NEWS – I’ve recently started taking knitting classes, and as with everything I do, I make it my mission to find every accessory for the activity to add to my collection.  That means I have a lot of accessories that need to be organized and stored, and I just found the perfect bag for storing small notions.  While the Fold ‘n Go Notions Case is  marked with a Knit Happy logo, you can use this bag to hold all the small items that get lost in the bottom of your big gear bag – chargers and cables, USB drives, pens, pencils, chapsticks, and other small items.

These bags are actually available with logos for several needleworking crafts – knitting, quilting, sewing, and crocheting – but they are identical otherwise.  The bags are made of black microfiber with contrasting trim in blue, white, or green.  Two magnetic, concealed snaps holds the bag closed.  When folded up, the bag is 8.25″ long x 4.25″ tall x 4.25″ deep; opened, it’s 20″ long.  Inside the bag are four zippered triangular pouches made of sturdy, clear plastic.  The pouches can hold a lot of stuff, and the clear sides make it possible to easily find what you’re looking for.

Crochet Yoda, you will.

NEWS – I know crocheting isn’t normally something you’d expect to read about here, but it’s not the craft we’ll be interested in.  With this Star Wars Crochet kit, you’ll be able to make Star Wars characters.  The kit includes materials needed to craft a Yoda figure and a stormtrooper.

A full-color book included in the kit has instructions for creating both Yoda and the stormtrooper with the supplied materials, plus it includes instructions for making Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Jabba the Hutt, and other characters.  There’s a lot of gift giving possibilities here.  You could give the kit to a crafty Star Wars fan, or you could make the figures yourself to give to a Star Wars fan / collector.

Use the Force to make your own lightsaber knitting needles

NEWS – I’m currently learning to knit, and just like with every interest I have, I need to find as many accessories as I possibly can.  While searching for knitting accessories, I discovered plans for making a pair of lighted knitting needles that look like miniature lightsabers on the Instructables website.  You start with Lucite rods and pocket-sized LED flashlights.  You’ll need to have some soldering skills, because you’ll need to replace the white LED in the flashlight with a colored LED.  The photo above shows the finished pair of knitting needles.

If you want to take a different approach, you could use these lighted knitting needles as a starting point for your lightsabers.  The NeedleLite shop on Etsy offers lighted needles in different lengths and diameters for $34.95.

NeedleLite also has 12″ lighted conductor batons for $29.95.  The batons already have a small handle attached that you could use as a starting point for the lightsaber grip.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any further instructions for you.  Go forth, Padawan, and craft your own weapon!

Learn to draw, build, or stitch a galaxy far, far away

Crafty fans of Star Wars will enjoy this series of books from Quarto Knows.  With the Master Models series, you can build scenes from Star Wars movies, construct models of characters (like Darth Vader or R2-D2) or ships (like the Millennium Falcon).  The Learn to Draw series helps you learn, step-by-step, how to draw your favorite characters.  There are books to help you explore the Star Wars mythology and blueprints.  There are even books of cross-stitch patterns for needle artists.  Quarto Knows has books to help any Star Wars hobbyist explore their interests.  Books range in price from about $15 to $100.
