You’ll always have a pair and a spare of socks with SoloSocks

NEWS – When my daughter was younger, I bought her socks from a company called LittleMissMatched.  Each set included three socks of different designs but with the same color combinations.  You could use any two of the socks for a pair of purposefully mis-matched socks.  They were really popular with girls back then, and I’m sure many mothers liked them as much as I did because it was easier when you didn’t have to worry about pairing up socks as part of laundry.

Well, now it seems two friends, Alexander Morabbi Wulsch and Adam Kuskner, got the idea that men could benefit from color-coordinated, purposefully mis-matched socks and created a line called SoloSocks.  Their sets consist of seven socks in one color combination.  The socks are made of 80% organic combed cotton, 17% polyamide, and 3% diabetes-friendly elasthane.  They have hand-linked toe seams allow for a flat seam and a comfortable fit.  They are one-size-fits U.S. men’s 7-12.

You’ll reduce waste because you’ll no longer have to throw out a sock when you lose one sock.  The packaging even converts into a set organizer for your drawer, so you’ll reduce waste there, too.  The socks are available in sets of seven in blue, navy, red, purple, or yellow combinations.  A set of seven SoloSocks is $39.95 at The Grommet.

Dress like the cast & crew of The Empire Strikes Back with this limited edition parka from Columbia Sportswear

NEWS – In 1979 a hardy group of cast and crew braved the bitter cold of Norway to film the iconic ice planet Hoth scenes from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Now you can live your dream of being part of a Star Wars movie. Columbia Sportswear is releasing a limited edition parka inspired by the jacket that protected the cast and crew of the classic film from sub-zero temperatures.

While the design of the coat is vintage the technology is very modern, the shell of the jacket is waterproof and breathable. Inside, Colombia’s Omni-Heat thermal reflective lining and 200g insulation will keep you warm as the inside of a Tauntaun.

Aside from its authentic bold blue color and security stripes, the parka features a bunch of cool details. The “Darth Vader with flames” embroidered chest patch is a replica of the emblem worn by the original crew. There’s a customizable nameplate and “Norwegian Unit” patch on the front left chest pocket. And the geographical coordinates of the Hardangerjøkulen Glacier film site are incorporated into the jackets lining.

The parka also features a removable hood with faux-fur trim, ribbed comfort cuffs, wrist zips, and multifunctional pockets.

The Star Wars: Empire Crew parka will cost you more than a few Galactic Credits. It’s priced at $500 and will be available to purchase on Columbia’s site starting at 12:01 a.m. EST on Dec. 7 and in-store at select Columbia-branded retail locations.

How do you get down off a bison? It apparently involves socks…

NEWS – I know that geese have down that are used in making pillows, but I never knew that bison had down, did you?  Apparently bison down can be used to make warm, cushy, and durable yarn when combined with merino wool.  This yarn incorporates 18% nylon and 2% spandex with the 56% merino wool and 24% bison down and is then made into socks that keep your feet toasty and dry.

These socks from United by Blue use bison down because it is softer than cashmere and warmer than wool. They are unisex and fit men’s sizes 9-13 or women’s sizes 10-13.  The socks are machine washable, so you don’t have to make trips to the dry cleaner to care for this wool.  Construction includes a flat toe seam, reinforced heel, and padding for support for ultimate wearing comfort.

United by Blue makes these socks – and even their packaging – completely in the US.  Our environment benefits each time someone purchases these comfy socks, too, because United by Blue cleans a pound of litter from our nation’s waterways for each pair sold.

The Ultimate American Sock by United by Blue is $38.00 a pair from The Grommet.
