totallee $29 thin leather iPhone X case review

Even though I had many high end iPhone 7 cases to choose from, the case that protected my smartphone the longest in 2017 was the totallee $29 thin leather iPhone 7 case. I found its simple, minimalistic design perfect for protecting my iPhone from minor bumps and scrapes without taking anything away from the look and feel of the device itself. So, when I decided I was going to upgrade to the iPhone X, I immediately checked to see if totallee was planning on creating a similar case for Apple’s latest & greatest. Thankfully they have and sent one my way for us to check out.

Truth be told when you pull the totallee case out of its packaging it doesn’t really impress. Not at all actually… It feels very thin, plasticky, and flimsy. But once you insert your iPhone X into the case, it takes on a whole new personality. The totallee case feels great on the phone, adding grippability and protection without any added weight or bulk to the sleek and slim device.

The case itself is made from polypropylene and is a mere 0.02″ thick, weighing in at 0.1 oz. The totallee leather iPhone case features an ultra-thin lambskin leather backing that is inset into the plastic. The case is perfectly fitted for the iPhone X, having a very tight fit with zero gaps whatsoever. totallee’s goal is to: keep your iPhone looking like an iPhone.

The totallee case perfectly wraps around all sides of the X but does not extend above the screen. Which I actually prefer in a case so your thumb and fingers can flow/swipe on & off the screen without bumping into any edging. The case works well with a screen protector, as seen installed in this pic.

This case snaps-on the smartphone and covers/protects nearly all of the iPhone’s sides and back. Instead of push-throughs, the totallee case has well-fitted cutouts that allow access to the iPhone’s mute, volume, and power buttons. The buttons themselves are slightly recessed but are easily pressed when desired.

The case covers the entire top of the iPhone. The X’s camera bump is perfectly flush with the case.

The right side has a single cutout for the Siri/Apple Pay/power button.

The totallee case has a cutout for the lightning connector and speaker holes on its base.

totallee backs their cases with a hassle-free, 2-year warranty.

Like its siblings, the totallee $29 thin leather iPhone X case is great minimalistic protection for the latest and greatest iPhone on the market. This case adds little bulk or weight to your smartphone while providing decent protection from bumps, nicks, or scrapes. Though it wouldn’t add much drop or impact protection. The totallee case does not interfere with the iPhone X’s ability to wirelessly charge. Just like its predecessor: The totallee thin leather iPhone case is well made/engineered from solid materials, designed to keep your iPhone looking and feeling as Apple intended while adding grippability and protecting it from the outside world.

Case Boss Heavy Duty Protective iPhone Case might be better for touchscreen touchiness

I’ve tried a few über-protective cases for my iPhones, with mixed results. Most have protected well, but their downfall is often a thick, plastic, built-in screen protector that severely reduces the touch-sensitivity of the screen.  Perhaps Case Boss has solved that with their Heavy Duty Protective iPhone Case. In addition to being armored against bumps, drops and dings with its aluminum-reinforced frame and rubberized anti-shock silicone interior (the layers even screw together), plus covers overall buttons and ports to aid in water splash and dust resistance, it also features a built-in 9H Gorilla Glass screen protector, which in theory would allow more touchscreen responsiveness than the standard plastic style of screen protector. Available in multiple colors and for multiple iPhone models, each for $79.99. Visit Case Boss for more info or to order. You can also find similar cases on Amazon.

Bellroy introduces a sharp looking set of cases for Google Pixel products

I’m a big fan of the refined & sophisticated style that Bellroy brings to their carry designs. I’m currently testing one of their new bag designs for an upcoming review, and it’s fantastic. If you’re a user of Pixel products, their new collaboration with Google is well worth a look. The Pixel 2 case is leather, and available in 4 colors. There’s also the Pixelbook sleeve that uses a unique sustainable fabric with leather accents, and doubles as a stand for your device.  They also have a leather-wrapped sleeve and clip for your Pixelbook pen in the works. Check them out at the Bellroy Web Site!

iVAPO iPad Pro 10.5 case review

When you spend hundreds of dollars for an iPad Pro, you really don’t want to spend another hundred dollars on a case just to protect it. Today I want to show you the iVAPO case for the 10.5 inch iPad Pro. At only $17.49 from Amazon, it can’t possibly be that good right? Let’s find out.

What is it?

The iVAPO iPad Pro 10.5 case is exactly what you guess it is, a case for the 10.5 inch iPad Pro. No surprises there. But there is a small surprise inside.

Design and features

The iVAPO case is similar to other iPad cases that have a folding cover on one side and an iPad holder on the opposite side.

The iVAPO has a grey denim-like look and feel that provides grip when you’re holding the iPad and helps protect the screen and back of the tablet from scratches and wear.

Although the case looks and feels nice in hand, I did notice a problem with it. The material sheds which leaves a thin layer of dust on the iPad’s display that’s hard to clean off without removing the iPad entirely from the case.

The iPad is easy to insert and remove from this case. There are cutouts for the speakers, lightning connector, and camera, so you can use all the features of the iPad just like you would if it weren’t in the case.

The one way the iVAPO sets itself apart from other iPad Pro cases is the built-in holder for the Apple Pencil. The Pencil stays in the holder even if you turn the case and iPad upside down.

To retrieve the Pencil, you can either hook the tip with your fingernail and pull it out or you can push the Pencil out from behind the case.

The iVAPO case cover is like a lot of iPad case covers in that it can fold out of the way behind the case when you’re using the iPad. It can also fold into a stand to prop up the iPad.

The cover has magnets to activate the auto sleep and wake feature. Unfortunately, I found that the cover would not always seat properly over the iPad’s display to engage that feature.

Final thoughts

It’s tough to complain about a case that is priced at less than $20, but there are a few issues that annoyed me about it that are worth repeating. The case material leaves a layer of dust on the iPad and the cover doesn’t always turn the iPad’s display off when the cover is closed.

Other than those issues, there’s not a lot more to say about the iVAPO iPad Pro 10.5 case. It does what it’s been designed to do, which is protect the iPad Pro and hold an Apple Pencil. If you’re on a budget after spending all your money on the iPad Pro and the Pencil, the iVAPO won’t overburden your wallet and is worth a look if you can get past the issues.
