SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton jacket review

What’s better than a cozy hoodie jacket on a cool day? How about a cozy hoodie jacket that has lots of pockets for your favorite gear? Sound good? Then you will want to read this review of the SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton jacket. Is it too soon in the review to reveal that I love this jacket?

What is it?

The SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton jacket is a cotton fleece zippered jacket with a hood, and 21 pockets.

Design and features (pockets, pockets, and even more pockets)

The hoodie is made of a cotton/poly blend fabric and comes in Black, Cobalt, Ash, or Maroon. I was sent the jacket in Cobalt. Note that this jacket only comes in men’s sizes. I was sent the jacket in size XS, but sizes go up to an XXXL.

The jacket has a typical hoodie design with long sleeves, a zippered front, and two traditional hoodie pockets on the front.

SCOTTeVEST’s branding on the jacket is minimal, with an embossed logo on the back (it’s actually under the hood in the image above).

And another logo on the left arm.

In the image above you’ll notice the nylon zipper which matches the color of the jacket and has smooth zip and unzip action. The zipper pull is made of metal with a dark gray finish. The hood drawstrings have the same type of metal on the ends.

You’ll also notice the slit in the ribbed cuff. That’s a thumb hole.

Thumb holes help keep the sleeves in place and keep part of your hand warm in cold weather.

When you unzip the Hoodie Cotton jacket, you’ll be greeted with a panel of pockets on both sides. If you’re familiar with SCOTTeVEST jackets, the Hoodie has a similar layout with some of the same features.

Let’s start on the left side of the jacket. Up at the top at the neckline are SeV’s PAN (Personal Area Network) loops and a CollarConnect covered cable run to help you manage the wires of your headphones. There’s also a BudBucket Pocket on each side at collar bone level to hold your earbuds.

Along the edge is a pen or pencil slot and next that is a vertical zippered pocket for your phone that has a mesh panel that allows you to see the screen and even interact with it. I will say that it’s not “easy” to interact with the phone through the mesh panel, but it’s possible.

Below the phone pocket is a zippered pocket that is large enough to hold a tablet like an iPad mini. The pocket is actually large enough to almost hold my Samsung Galaxy S Tab which has a 10″ display, so a 10.5 inch iPad might fit too.

There’s another pocket layered over the tablet pocket what is the perfect size for a Field Notes notebook or a passport.

The right side panel of pockets is almost identical to the left side except that the bottom pocket is smaller and sized more for a pair of sunglasses which is suggested by the embossed icon beside the pocket.

Note that all of the inside zippers are locking zippers. The pull folds over to lock in place to prevent accidental unzipping.

As mentioned before, there are two front pockets on the Hoodie Cotton that look like classic front hoodie pockets, but they hide a few extras. First of all, each one has a top drop zippered pocket that is perfect for your phone, a wallet, and even a small bottle of water.

The main handwarmer pockets have a separator panel so you can put items like your keys in front the panel and your hands in the back or visa versa.

There are also some small Velcro pockets for coins or a key. And the right pocket has a lanyard coil for your keys.

The large hood has a built in do not disturb eye cover so you can take a nap on a train, plane, etc and not worry about someone bugging you. I really love this feature, but I do wish that the do not disturb eye cover had some small magnets or velcro to keep it attached to the inside of the hood. As it is designed, only one edge is attached to the front of the hood. The rest of the eye cover just floats inside the hood.

The SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton fits well even though it only comes in men’s sizes. I am 5’6″, 128 lbs give or take and the XS fits me fine.

My favorite feature are the top down zippered pockets because they let me quickly access my phone.

Final thoughts

As I already said at the very beginning of this review, I love the SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton jacket. It’s warm, soft and cozy enough that I could easily sleep in it. It’s kind of a bummer that it’s summer because I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to wear it now that it’s warmer outside. I did wear it a few weeks ago when I was on vacation and visited Indiana Caverns for a cave tour. The cave was about 50 degrees and this jacket kept me at the perfect temperature and kept all my gear organized in their own pockets.

Next to the SCOTTeVEST Lola jacket, the Hoodie Cotton ranks right up there as one of my all time favorite SeV garments. The price is nice too. If you love hoodies, I know you’ll love this one.

SCOTTeVest (SeV) Enforcer Jacket review

Since 2000, the SCOTTeVEST (SeV) designers have been producing their patented TEC (Technology Enabled Clothing) for those tech-heads who want to inconspicuously transport their EDC gear without the need for a bag, backpack, or briefcase. For this review, SeV has sent me their new 30-pocketed Enforcer jacket designed specifically with law enforcement, military, and gun enthusiasts in mind. While I am none of those things (at least anymore), I do like the sleek, stealthy look of the jacket…it’s all blacked-out style is definitely me. It will be interesting to see how well it fairs against a wet and damp spring here in the Pacific Northwest.

Note: Click the images to see a larger view.

According to their website, the SeV Enforcer jacket is a new, improved version of the popular Alpha jacket. As I mentioned above, it is designed with law enforcement, military, and gun enthusiasts in mind. That said, the Enforcer still has all of the functional engineering of other SCOTTeVEST garments, including a wide assortment of pockets of all different shapes and sizes to securely store/transport all your gear.

Features:

  • 30 Pockets are perfect for transporting your EDC gear
  • Insulation quilted to the lining
  • Removable sleeves
  • Water-resistant and breathable material
  • 100% polyester shell and lining
  • Patented Personal Area Network (PAN) for wire management
  • Ergonomic zippers
  • Includes the Travel Smart System™, Weight Management System™, NoBulge™, clear touch pockets, etc.
  • Can hold iPad/small laptop/firearm
  • Machine Washable

The SeV Enforcer jacket is very well made with high-quality materials, excellent construction/workmanship, and capacity to carry a ton of stuff.  The zippers, seams, and stitching are all precise and nicely done. The 100% polyester exterior is finely woven and looks like a stylish softshell jacket on the outside. Functionally, the shell does a good job of beading off water though I have not had the opportunity to use it in the dumping Seattle rain yet. Even though it’s black, the shell does not pick up/show dirt much at all. The jacket is machine washable.

Many of the 30 pockets are sized and engineered for a specific type of function like a sidearm, holding keys, sunglasses, tablet, pens or even small laptop (as shown below).

There are also other niceties hidden within the jacket like bungee clip for keys, soft cleaning cloth for cleaning your sunglasses, and RFID blocking pocket (red zippered pocket, inner lining shown above) to protect your electronic footprint from snoopers. As I have mentioned in other SeV reviews, the most challenging part of owning a TEC garment is remembering/finding where you stashed a particular item.

Though SeV helps you keep track of everything by embroidering icons that tell you what each of the pockets has been designed to hold.

The two front-positioned “Rapid Access panels”  are huge and contain built-in sub-pockets for extra magazine clips or anything really. The main front pockets are so big they easily accommodate my 12″ MacBook or full sized tablet. When fully loaded down with all my gear the jacket does get relatively heavy. I doubt in a real-world scenario I would carry my laptop in the jacket…maybe an iPad but that is about as heavy/bulky as I’d go.

Since I got the iPhone 7+, I use wireless earbuds 99% of the time. But thought it worth mentioning that the Enforcer has SCOTTeVEST’s patented Personal Area Network (PAN) for wire management. Here you can see my pair of JHAudio JH|5 Pro earphones I reviewed years ago installed in the Revolution Plus jacket (for illustration). As I mentioned in that review: “It took me just a few minutes to figure out the system and string the wires throughout the interior of the jacket. I would suggest to those who have a spare pair of earbuds laying around, to dedicate a pair to the jacket so you do not have to take the time installing and removing them”. The SeV wire management system is excellent for keeping your earbuds in order and always dialed in.

I’m 6’1″ and 180 lbs — the large Enforcer SCOTTeVEST sent me fits well and even when fully loaded the jacket rides nicely on my shoulders/frame.

Like many of their other jackets, SeV designers engineer removable, zip-off sleeves to transform the Enforcer into a vest. The Gadgeteer Kid said it reminded him of Marty McFly in Back to the Future.

The SeV Enforcer Jacket is available in 8 sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL, XXL-tall, XXXL-tall. And any color you want as long as that color is black…

I have been wearing the SCOTTeVEST Enforcer jacket for nearly two months. During that time, we have had all types of weather conditions transitioning from late winter to early summer. I really like the jacket both in terms of looks/style and TEC functionality. The Enforcer is a very well made tech-enabled jacket, designed specifically for law enforcement, military, and gun enthusiasts. Like all their garments, SeV has invested much thought and excellent engineering into its design. With 30 pockets of all shapes and sizes, the Enforcer is able to carry your firearm, tech, and misc gear from your smartphone to laptop, potentially eliminating the near to bring an EDC gear bag.

SCOTTeVEST announces redesigned hoodie now with 19 pockets

SCOTTeVEST has completely redesigned their men’s Hoodie Cotton jacket to have more (and better) pockets and more features. The previous version of their hoodie jacket had 10 pockets and this new version has 19 pockets. Now you can carry your EDC without needing to carry an extra bag or load down your pants pockets for an unsightly lumpy look.

The new hoodie features two pockets that are large enough to hold tablets like a full-sized iPad or smaller tablets like an iPad mini. SCOTTeVEST has also updated to sturdier zippers and added a “Do Not Disturb” eye mask.

“There are hundreds of hoodies on the market, but they all have the same problem: a lack of pockets,” said CEO and co-founder Scott Jordan. “We took everything we’ve learned about hoodies, studied the marketplace and integrated the best features to create the ultimate functional and stylish hoodie. With the SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton, you will have the same comfort and design you love, but won’t be limited on what you can carry around.”

The redesigned SCOTTeVEST Hoodie Cotton will be available in Ash, Black, Cobalt, and Maroon, and will retail for $95 via scottevest.com and soon at Amazon.
