Save up to 80% during Way Days at Wayfair.com

NEWS – Do you know how Amazon has Prime Day once a year? Well, they aren’t the only online retailer that can have a big sale. For the next 36 hours Wayfair.com has just what you need (see what I did there?). Wayfair Way Day begins today at 12pm ET / 9am PT, with over 100k items on sale for up to 80% off and free shipping on most items too.

Wayfair sells a lot of homewares and furniture, but they also sell quite a few products that you see us review here on The Gadgeteer. For example, you can snag a robot vacuum for $170.62, which is a 74% savings.

The bObsweep PetHair Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop is designed for families with furbabies. It features a giant 1100 mL dustbin and built-in filtration to trap harmful pathogens.

I also noticed that they have a large selection of solar lighting products for outdoors. With spring here, it’s the perfect time to update your lawn and deck with some lighting that is powered by the sun.

Visit Wayfair.com for all the details on this big 3-day sale and check out their flash sales which are happening throughout the days.

Savor the savings with Kroger Pickup’s clickable coupons

ARTICLE – Kroger Pickup (formerly ClickList®) offers super-convenient grocery shopping and virtual coupon clipping.

If you’re a Kroger Rewards member, you can log in to Kroger.com, and by selecting “Start my cart” it will display suggestions based on your recent purchases.

They also have a tab for “My Sale Items” to show you which of your usual go-to’s are on sale at the moment.

Plus, whenever you come across an item that’s offering current store or manufacturer coupons, you can add the coupon by simply checking a box. For bargain shoppers like myself, it’s priceless! I certainly won’t miss clipping coupons the old fashioned way and then half the time forgetting to bring them or else taking them with me only to discover they expired yesterday.

The drawback is, unlike Walmart grocery pickup, for example, Kroger charges $4.99 per shopping trip. However, with online coupons and offers, you can often make up that five bucks pretty quickly. Plus, your first three orders are free, and they’ll sometimes send you coupons for free pickup here and there after that.

Similar to other grocery curbside programs I’ve used, you select a one-hour window to gather your goodies. Also, you can click which items you will accept substitutions for in case they’re out of stock (and you can accept or reject those substitutions at pickup time).

When you arrive, there’s a designated parking area for drive-up customers. And you simply call the displayed phone number to let them know you’ve arrived and which parking stall you’re in.

The Kroger site offers a few nice bonus features, too.

First, you can add comments. So, for example, I like hard avocados so I can use them later in the week when they ripen. I can let my personal shopper know my whims and wishes, and so far, they’ve done a good job fulfilling my requests.

Secondly, the site offers suggested recipes, and if you want to try one, you just click “Shop Ingredients” and all the needed items pop up.

Since we shop at Kroger already, my family has some established Kroger-brand favorites (like their popcorn and string cheese), so this has been a hugely convenient option, especially when we’re having a busy week or gathering up supplies for another Friday sleepover. Plus, like all Kroger shopping trips, we earn those nifty fuel points.

Bag a deal, skip the lines with Walmart grocery pickup

ARTICLE – When it comes to groceries, Walmart offers impressive deals and selection, but it can get extremely crowded with long checkout lines. The super-sized stores can also feel especially daunting if you have young children, a tight schedule, health challenges or mobility issues.

And that’s the beauty of online grocery ordering: You get all the deals without any of the hassles. And it’s a free service, just make sure to spend $35 or more on your order.

Not every Walmart has grocery pick-up, but they’re introducing it more and more places. Just click on the grocery icon to the right of the search bar on Walmart.com. From there you can search your zip code to find the nearest available pick-up location. And if you already have a saved store on the site, it will immediately show you if it’s available at your usual spot or, if not, where the closest locations are.

It’s easy to search and select items to add to your cart, indicating how many you’d like of each. I’ve gotten goodies far beyond my weekly menu, like cleaning supplies, medicine, fresh flowers, even a new dog harness.

Then you select a one-hour timeslot to pick up your items. My store offers one-hour windows from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As part of your order review, you can check a box to accept substitutions on all items or individually select which items you’re willing to accept substitutions for, in case they’re not available. For example, as a substitution, I’ve gotten a bigger size carton of blackberries at no extra cost when the small size was out of stock. And I was upgraded from the store brand to a name brand of pizza crust (also at no extra cost). But I don’t allow substitutions on items where we’re picky about having a certain brand (Alexia hash browns, please) or particular flavor (blue Kool-Aid, never the orange).

If you do allow the substitutions but don’t like what they come up with, you can always have them take it off your order and subtract the cost at pick up. So there’s really no risk of getting stuck with something you don’t want.

After you’ve submitted your order online, you can log in and add or subtract items until 12 hours before your pick-up time.

I have text notification set up to let me know when my order is ready. At pick-up time, if you use the app, you can click to say you’re on your way. Otherwise, there’s a posted phone number in the pick-up lanes so you can let them know you’ve arrived.

Once you’ve done it the first time, your list is saved on the site, and it’s much easier to click on your favorite stuff the next time without having to search. After my first visit, I also had the pickup number loaded into my phone, so now I just call and let them know when I’m five minutes away.

Now, if you’re a coupon connoisseur or BYO bag kind of person (count me in both camps) this might not be your weekly jam. While you can’t use manufacturer coupons, there are some $10 off coupons floating around right now. And so many plastic bags —I’m not exaggerating, in my last order, I had NINE single items packed in their own nine different plastic bags, and several other bags with only two small items. However, this might be overlooked for convenience sake when dealing with a sick kid, super-busy week, or the first day you get home from vacation. In fact, I’m already setting up my cart so it’s ready when we get back from spring break.

Overall, Walmart online ordering and grocery pickup is easy to use and very convenient. If they had this when my kids were toddlers, it would have been a game changer! Find it at https://grocery.walmart.com/.

Amazon Day allows Prime Members to choose a shipment day that works for them

NEWS – If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you now have a new delivery option. On Thursday Amazon launched Amazon Day, a new service that lets Prime Members pick what day of the week they want to receive their packages.

All you have to do is select the Amazon Day option at checkout, then choose the day that works best for you. Orders will be delivered each week on your chosen day. For example, if you choose Wednesday all the orders you placed during the week will be delivered on Wednesday, your “Amazon Day”.

If you want to choose a different day your default delivery day can be changed anytime at checkout.

Most items can be ordered for Amazon Day delivery up to two days before your chosen day.

If you need an item sooner, you can still choose a faster shipping option (free two-day shipping, one-day shipping, etc…) at checkout.

Amazon Day is available now to all US Prime Members. If you’re not a Prime Member, you can get more info and sign up here.

New gadgets to your door monthly with Tech2u.club

NEWS – Jonesing for some new gadgets and gizmos, but don’t have time to find the newest tech? Kickstarter campaign Tech2U.club plans to solve that problem for you. Tech2U offers a curated, monthly consumer electronics subscription club.  Think Watch Gang for tech nerds.

They promise to bring their members, “new, unique and practical tech”  with three membership options:

  • $70 for one month
  • $180 for three months ($60/mo)
  • $300 for six months ($50/mo)

Their focus is on new, fun and practical tech that their members will be able to put into use in their everyday lives.  Sounds a little like what us Gadgeteers look for every day! The first month’s box promises to contain practical items like a security camera, phone holder, aux cable as well as a fun 3D drawing pen with a total claimed value of over $159.

The Kickstarter campaign is still in its infancy with only four backers and $921 of a $30,000 goal raised as of this writing. Their main listed risk is getting too few (under 100) members to be able to provide access to the tech they want to provide to members. The funding period is scheduled to end on March 22, 2019 with subscription deliveries starting in April 2019. Does this sound interesting to you?  You can learn more about the campaign on Kickstarter.
