Bose goes fashionable with Frames sunglass/headphone combo

NEWS – Bose, a longtime provider of top-quality audio equipment, is expanding their line to include fashionable sunglasses, with a twist.  Bose Frames are sunglasses, personal wireless headphones, Bluetooth phone headset, a gateway to Siri and Google Assistant and what Bose calls, “Bose audio augmented reality platform”.

Frames do not alter your view, but rather augments via audio information.  Pairing with Android and IOS devices via the Bose Connect app, Frames leverage nine-axis head motion sensors and the GPS from your connected device to know both where you are and what you are facing.  This will allow for extensive audio augmentation for travel, gaming, and other applications.

Weighing in at just 45 grams, Frames fall into the typical range of 25-50 grams for quality sunglasses.  They are scratch and shatter resistant and block 99% of UVA/UVB rays.  Bose claims battery life up to 3.5 hours during playback and up to 12 hours on standby. This is in line with other wireless headsets. Augmented reality features will be made available through the Bose Connect app as they are developed. They are available in two styles, Rondo on the female model and Alto on the male model. Both versions are only available in matte black finish.

Bose has created a pretty interesting combo with Frames.  Having one item to put in your EDC kit that gives you sunglasses, wireless headphones, Bluetooth phone connection, access to voice assistants and the promise of audio AR is pretty intriguing.  Frames are available today directly from Bose for $199.99

The Feelworld Master Series MA5 is a feature packed on-camera monitor

NEWS – When I am not out and about taking pictures either as a professional photographer or for my own pleasure, my other business is as a videographer. Both of these jobs require gear that is viewed as mandatory and gear that is driven by personal desire. Video gear is as expensive as photography gear and in most cases even more expensive. When shooting video, there are many accessories that help to improve the experience and the ability to do a great job. One accessory that I own and have multiple variations of is an on-camera monitor. This is a great tool that allows you to properly see what you are recording, and depending on its capabilities, it also allows you to assess the quality of the footage as you shoot. Good feature-packed on-camera monitors can be quite expensive ranging from several hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.

Recently someone recommended to me the Feelworld Master Series MA5 monitor. This monitor in a 5 inch LED on-camera monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It is capable of both 4:3 and 16:9 screen format, and it has an HDMI input and output as well as an audio out. The HDMI supports resolutions from 480i all the way through 4k 4096x2160p and has a left/right viewing angle of 80 degrees from each side. It comes with hardware mounting options, cables, a sunshade, and a case as a part of the package.

If you would like to read more about this monitor go to the Momanplay website. It sells for the relatively inexpensive price of $169 on Amazon.

iRobot brings Roomba technology to your lawn

NEWS – Who doesn’t love coming home to find nice lines in the carpet and the debris from last night’s reverie, or the pet’s ongoing hair exodus all tidied up? iRobot, probably the best-known name in home cleaning robotics, is bringing Roomba technology to your lawn.

The Terra robot mower promises to make lawn care work a thing of the past. Terra differentiates itself from competitors like Husqvarna’s Automower 315X in a few ways.  First, the Husqvarna, and others, requires you to bury perimeter wire around the boundary of your lawn to prevent the mower from going cross-country.  The Terra will use a new wireless communication system based on standalone beacons to define the cutting perimeter, eliminating the need to dig mini-trenches all around your yard.

Second, it will use iRobot’s smart mapping technology to define the cutting area. Other mowers cut in essentially random directions, more or less continuously.  This is based on the theory that over time, the mower will cut the entire yard.  The Terra will mow the entire yard in one mow.  If it needs a recharge, smart mapping will allow it to go home to charge, and then just pick up where it left off, completing the job.  The Terra will mow in nice, straight lines, in a more efficient, and aesthetically pleasing pattern, making the OCD sufferers among us happy.

If you have a Roomba, you already know how to use a Terra.  Both robots are controlled via iRobot’s HOME app.  You can change cutting height, and cutting start times right from the app.

The Terra is ruggedized and weatherproof, which is a good thing, given that it will live outside all the time.

Terra will be available for sale in Germany later this year and enter a beta program in the United State later in 2019 or early 2020.  Pricing has not been announced.  For more information go to iRobot’s mower page.

Casper introduces Glow a light designed for better bedtime

NEWS – Casper is best known for making mattresses and pillows, now they’re getting into the bedroom lighting game with the introduction of their latest product the Glow. The Glow is a self-dimming light designed to help you wind down naturally for a better, deeper nights sleep.

When you turn the Glow on it begins a 45-minute drift pattern that starts out with warm, bright light and gradually dims like the sunset. You can use the Glow app to schedule a wake-up time, so in the morning it will gradually fill the room with soft, warm light to gently wake you up.

The Glow is gesture activated and can be turned on or off just by flipping it over. A built-in gyroscope lets you dim or brighten the light with just a twist. And the Glow is portable so you can use it in the middle of the night to light your path to the bathroom just by wiggling it.

Glow can be used with or without the Glow app. The app allows you to set wake-up times and sync and manage a group of Glow lights together. Once synced up, when you interact with one light all the other lights in the group do exactly the same thing.

The Glow is cordless and comes with a small base for easy charging.

The Casper Glow Light can be purchased from their website for $89 for a single light or $169 for a double. And just like with their mattresses you get a 30-night risk-free trial to try it out.
