Apple Facing Lawsuit Over Storing iCloud Data on 3rd-Party Servers

The dust has barely settled over the furor of Apple users finding out that Siri data was being shared with third parties, before there is yet more third-party controversy with Apple. This time they’re facing a class-action lawsuit that was filed in California on Monday. It accuses Apple of false advertising, as they tell users iCloud data is “stored by Apple, but in some cases it’s actually saved on third-party servers being run by Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. Class-Action Lawsuit While the Siri data difficulty was smoothed over easily enough with the company immediately putting… Read more

Deal of the day – Save $70 off a Roborock S6 vacuum

DEAL NEWS – It’s time to put your fears of robot overlords away and embrace the convenience of having one do the chores you don’t want to do, like vacuuming the floors in your home. To help you get over these fears, Roborock is offering a $70 off coupon on Amazon for their S6 vacuum (black model) which is normally priced at $649.99 but through August 18th, the price is down to $579.99. If you’ve not heard of the Roborock brand, I can help you there too because we’ve reviewed several of their vacuums including the Roborock S6 which Samuel said

The RoboRock S6 has become a key appliance in our house, being run on pretty much a daily basis to help clean up the cooking mess that made it to the floor, the stray hairs and the pet dander/hair that accumulates in all the hard to reach places. We love using the mop feature in the kitchen, as it’s apparent that dirt doesn’t always show itself on these floors. With two humans and four 4-legged friends, we need to work to keep the floors clean so it’s very convenient to be able to hit one button on our smartphones rather than go through the hassle of getting the stand-up vacuum out on a daily basis. I would strongly recommend this vacuum for those who need a robotic being to clean up after them from time to time!

So head over to Amazon and make sure you click the $70 off coupon box when you put the vacuum in your cart.

Destructive Malware Cases Increased By 200% in 2019

When we cover viruses and malware, we usually discuss how the trend of malicious programs has moved away from being simply destructive tools and moved towards spying and harvesting information for profit. However, destructive malware is still very much out there. It’s just not targeting you or your home PCs anymore! Where Destructive Malware Thrives Destructive malware is a choice tool of hackers for two reasons. First, it can be used as espionage to shut down large information servers owned by businesses. Second, it can be used as a threat against someone to pay up, usually via ransomware…. Read more

Totallee takes a break from smartphone cases with their new wireless charging pad

NEWS – It seems like everyone makes a wireless charger nowadays. Totallee known for its ultra-thin smartphone cases is the latest to dip their toe into the wireless charger pool. I have one of their ultra-thin cases on my iPhone Max XS, and I love it.

Much like their cases, the wireless charging pad is a minimalistic design that is almost Impossibly thin (.25″). The pad is square with rounded corners. The modern design is kind of cool in its simplicity.

It offers fast charging with speeds up to 10W, although the 10W speed is only applicable if you have a Samsung device. If you own an iPhone the max charging speed is 7.5W. The pad does require a QC 2.0/3.0 adaptor for fast charging (not included).

The charger also features an LED indicator light, overheating protection and foreign object detection. And of course, it’s compatible with all of Totallee’s cases.

The Totallee wireless charging pad is available for pre-order on their site for $49, with a shipping date of 9/4.

The Saddleback Leather Messenger Backpack brings back a classic design in a new format!

NEWS – When Saddleback Leather first started out, one of their original products was a simple messenger-style bag. It was a great design that also converted to a backpack in a pinch. I know many owners who modified theirs for full-time use this way, arguing that the big square form factor worked better that way. While the original messenger bag has been retired, Saddleback Leather just retooled the design and released it as a dedicated backpack!

The new Messenger Backpack follows the dimensions of the old design at 14″ by 13″ by 4-1/4″, and weighs in at a comfy 4.3 pounds. Two side-mounted pockets hold water bottles or cell phones, while the interior includes a dedicated pocket for a 15″ laptop, a couple of small pockets for extra bits, a secret bottom to hide important stuff, and a built-in key leash. Dedicated backpack straps are attached on the rear of the bag, which also has multiple D-ring attachment points to lash all kinds of things.

I know some long-time Saddleback fans (like me) will be excited about this one. It looks like a perfect marriage of form and function. It retails for $379 and is available in 4 different colors. Check it out on the Saddleback Leather Messenger Backpack page!
