We’ve been told for years that two-factor authorization is a way to help keep us safe, as it makes it harder for hackers to get their hands on our information. But Facebook doesn’t seem to notice the technical oxymoron of allowing others to find you with the phone number you provided them to set up two-factor authorization. Worse yet, they won’t even let you opt out of it. Facebook Allows Phone Number to Be Used If you’re feeling extra-safe on Facebook after you secured your account with two-factor authorization with the use of your phone number, you may want to read this. Perhaps, however, you… Read more
Don’t get tied up in knots over organizing your cables, use Untie Cord Organizer!
NEWS – I can’t stand a tangled cable mess, so I generally use hook-and-loop ties to organize my cables. But then I saw the Untie Cord Organizer and thought that that would be a clever and really quick way to neatly store my earbuds. The Untie organizer is a bendable stainless steel tie coated in silicone, thus, you no longer have to worry about snagging the hook-and-loop ties on your clothes or other things – just wrap the Untie organizer around your cables and you’re ready to go (or leave them behind your desk or entertainment center)! These ties are a little on the expensive side, so you may only want to use them on your most frequently used cables.
The Untie Cord Organizer (shown in the left photo above) and its sister product, Unlace Silicone Lace (shown in the right photo above) come in a package containing four ties and are available from Amazon. There are two lengths (ten-inch length for $10.95 and five-inch length for $8.95) and multiple colors to choose from. I might be giving these a try in the near future!

WaterField Designs has a new sling pouch that you’ll want for those light EDC days
NEWS – Earlier this week Waterfield Designs introduced their latest bag, the Sutter Sling Pouch. If that sounds a little familiar, that’s because Smythe reviewed the Sutter Tech Sling earlier this year.
Although the Sutter Sling Pouch shares a similar design aesthetic with the Tech Sling, the Sling Pouch has been designed as a minimalist crossbody bag that can be used just to carry the essentials.
Made in San Francisco, CA, this wearable pouch is available in tan waxed canvas with chocolate leather accents or black ballistic nylon with black leather accents. The WaterField Designs Sutter Sling Pouch also features:
- Angled strap attachment creates a clean look and keeps bag flat against the back or chest.
- Quick-adjust metal cam lock easily tightens/loosens the strap.
- Front, ultra-soft-lined pocket is ideal for smartphones and other quick-access items.
- Two interior, open-topped pockets store small items.
- Key fob facilitates convenient key retrieval.
- Gold, rip-stop liner lights up the interior, so contents are easy to locate.
- Back panel is padded with firm, closed-cell foam that is lined with moisture-wicking mesh, providing extra cushioning for the back or chest and for pouch contents.
- YKK water-repellent zippers keep contents secure.
You can pre-order the Sutter Sling Pouch for $119 and it will start shipping on 3/8/19 so the wait is very short. Visit WaterField Designs at sfbags.com for all the details.

Leatherman’s new FREE series multi-tools use freaking magnets!
NEWS – I’ve had a red Leatherman Squirt as part of my EDC for a couple of years and I use it pretty regularly. I also have a couple of full-sized multi-tools that I keep for around the home jobs. The only bad thing about most multi-tools is that you have to use your fingernails to pry out the individual tools. That’s not a big deal if you have strong nails, but mine have a tendency to split or chip if I’m not careful. I know it sounds crazy, but that’s the biggest reason why I’m excited about Leatherman’s new FREE series of multi-tools because they feature magnets for low friction when opening and closing.
These newly redesigned multi-tools not only look different than other Leatherman tools, but they have a lot of new tech built into them. Namely magnets and that the tools are accessible from the outside and can be deployed with one hand.
There are 3 different series of tools. There’s the P Series that you see above, it’s a full-sized fold out multi-tool with pliers and a selection of other small tools.
There’s the smaller T Series tool that reminds me of a Swiss Army knife because it includes just the essentials like a knife and screwdrivers, scissors, and a bottle opener. This one looks really good to me because it’s small and includes a pair of scissors. I think this one could replace my Squirt.
Then there’s the K Series which also features a pocket knife, but it has other tools that pivot out of the handle. What do you think? Are you excited about these new tools too? The FREE series will start rolling out in April with the P Series which will be priced starting at $120. The T Series will be available in June starting at $40 and finally, the K Series will show up in August starting at $80. Head over to Leatherman.com for more pics and videos that show the new magnetic tech.
