Add a decorative “nest” for your Nest thermostat

If you’re replacing a big, clunky thermostat with a Nest, you may find yourself with a patch of unpainted or un-wallpapered wall that the Nest isn’t going to cover.  If you aren’t aware that Nest comes with a rectangular white plate to cover up such things ( ahem…) or you want a different look, perhaps the wooden Nest Thermostat Wall Plate will be what you’re looking for.  When we had our HVAC system replaced this summer, we had a Nest installed with it.  And because I wasn’t aware of the plastic plate (ahem…), I ordered the Wall Plate in golden oak.  It looks great on the wall, and it covered up the unpainted area left after the big, old, clunky rectangular thermostat was removed.  The surrounds are made of European beech wood, and they are available in painted white or golden oak stained finish for $20.00,  or unfinished so you can choose your own stain for $15.00.  I found mine at Amazon.

Braven takes it all in Stryde for the holidays

During the holidays, portable Bluetooth speakers are almost the perfect gift for your favorite audio gadget geek and Braven has come out with two new Stryde models for 2017: the Braven Stryde and Stryde XL. These two Stryde speakers compliment the Stryde 360—made for outdoor use and an active lifestyle.

New materials and color scheme for the new, flat Stryde matches the circular Stryde 360. This Stryde is an update to the discontinued Braven Balance speaker, but with some important improvements. It comes with dual full range drivers for clean highs and bass from two opposing passive radiators optimized with tuned EQ for 22 hours of playtime. It’s shockproof housing is sealed against dust and water and has an IP67 waterproof rating,  protecting it from a dip in the pool or beach salt and sand.

Bluetooth Smart technology allows pairing with the new Stryde Active Speaker App to remotely power the speaker from up to 33 feet away and you can choose a personalized EQ setting. You can also use the two-way, high-definition integrated speakerphone and charge your mobile device from a built-in 4400mAh battery.

The new Stryde is now compatible with Siri and Google Voice allowing you to send messages, make calls and look up the nearest place to grab a bite.

The larger Stryde XL will create massive sound to take your playground where ever you are. Its portable frame is also shock-resistant with an IP67 waterproof rating, meaning it can be submerged in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes. The Stryde XL is engineered with two extended range drivers with dual opposing passive radiators for a balanced experience indoors or out. Like the Stryde, the Stryde XL is also compatible with Siri and Google Voice.

Both new Stryde speakers are available now for this holiday season. The Stryde sells for $149.99 US and the Stryde XL sells for $199.99 US. Visit Braven for more information and Amazon to order.

Premier headphones now come from Detroit thanks to Shinola

Detroit has been experiencing a resurgence of late and it’s companies like Shinola that are leading the way. Shinola makes everything from watches, bags and backpacks, bicycles and many of life’s accessories including audio gear. Now, Shinola has ventured into the personal audio market with the Canfield Headphone Collection. Shinola has spent two years engineering and fine tuning this collection using quality materials, finishes, and processes resulting in a sound signature that’s warm and expansive.

“This introduction is special,” said Shinola’s founder, Tom Kartsotis. “It speaks to our love of music and to the soul of Detroit. It is rare that one product can capture and transmit this much emotion. People always smile when they hold the headphones, feel the quality and then listen. We are so proud of this effort from our Audio team. Their tireless efforts have created a product that personifies what Shinola has come to stand for.”

The new collection will consist of four styles: The Canfield Over-Ear, The Canfield On-Ear, The Canfield In-Ear Monitor, and The Canfield Pro In-Ear Monitor.

The Canfield Over-Ear Headphones produce a clean sound that’s acoustically tuned and tested in Detroit. The Canfield Over-Ear Headphones use a 50-mm dynamic driver with a neutral frequency response to bring music to life. They feature stainless steel components, lambskin ear cushions, leather headband, and an in-line microphone. The Canfield Over-Ear Headphones come in black and cognac and retail for $595.

The Canfield On-Ear Headphones are tuned for a precise sound with their 40MM Shinola Dynamic Transducer. They feature stainless steel components, lambskin ear cushions, leather headband, and an in-line microphone. The Canfield On-Ear Headphones in black and cognac retail for $495 and the Canfield On-Ear Headphones in black PVD retail for $550.

Developed and tested with Campfire Audio out of Portland, Oregon, the Canfield In-Ear Monitors are designed to sound great for hours of comfortable use. Memory foam and silicone ear tips with a dynamic driver bring out nuances in music. The Canfield In-Ear Monitors retail for $195.

Also produced with Campfire Audio, the Canfield Pro In-Ear Monitors are powered by a quad balanced armature receiver to bring out every possible element in music. Crafted to be endlessly comfortable, the Pro In-Ear monitors allow music to sound the way musicians intended it to be heard. The Canfield Pro In-Ear Monitors retail for $495.

The Canfield Collection is available in time for holiday gift giving.
