Keep your feet toasty warm with this heated pouch

I suffer from cold feet.  They get so cold that sometimes a night sleeping under a couple of blankets isn’t enough to warm them up.  I need the Ultra-Plush Foot Warmer for those days when my feet are so cold that nothing seems to warm them.

The Ultra-Plus warmer plugs into an AC outlet, and it has a 2-hour auto-shutoff and low/medium/high heating levels.  At 35″ long x 20″ wide, it’s big enough for two pairs of feet.  You can use the heated pouch sitting on the sofa, sitting at a desk, or even under the covers in bed.

It has a neutral ivory exterior; a soft fiberfill center cushions your feet for extra comfort.  After removing the controller, the pouch is machine-washable.

Normally, the warmer sells for $79.99, but it’s currently available for $59.99 at Sharper Image.

A recording microphone and a shouting caterpillar – two great things that go great together!

I know nothing about recording microphones and I have often wondered, “What would I use a microphone for?”, until I read about a screaming caterpillar on Curiosity.

The above video was obtained from Science News.

Okay, so it’s not really shouting or screaming as we know it, but apparently, the Nessus sphinx hawkmoth caterpillar makes a series of clicks and hisses when disturbed as if to say, “OH, NO YOU DON’T!!” These noises are loud enough to frighten off a predator.

So, after briefly searching online for microphones that are great for recording vocals, I found the Audio-Technica AT2020. This microphone has been available for a while now, but this brand and model seems to be respected by audio recording enthusiasts as being a great microphone at a budget price. It has the following features: it is an affordable studio condenser microphone (good for recording vocals and individual instruments vs. a dynamic microphone which is good for recording live performances), has a cardioid polar pattern which reduces the sensitivity to sounds from the sides and the rear of the microphone, and,

Its low-mass diaphragm is custom-engineered for extended frequency response and superior transient response. With rugged construction for durable performance, the microphone offers a wide dynamic range and handles high SPLs with ease.

The Audio-Technica AT2020 Cardioid Condenser Studio Microphone is available from Amazon for $99. Is this a good microphone to detect and record the angry roars of the Nessus sphinx hawkmoth caterpillar? I have no idea, but if I had this microphone and access to this caterpillar, guess what I’d be doing?

Focal focuses on color with new Listen Wireless Chic headphones

Focal is a French audio company who is becoming more famous for their super-expensive headphones than their even more super-expensive speakers. But, did you know that they make darn good affordable headphones, also? They do and now they do in color. Focal has just released the new Listen Wireless Chic fashionable headphones.

The new Chic line (made in France) is based on the Focal Listen Wireless headphone which only came in black. Now though, there is Purple, Olive and Blue to choose from. The Listen Wireless Chic offers the same technical characteristics and sound quality of the original with three finishes for those seeking a touch of style.

The deep Purple is a daring choice, with Blue and Olive appealing to just about everyone. There is an iridescent non-conductive metal finish on the ear cup that reinforces the quality of the original. The new Listen Wireless Chic headphones are both unique and fun while delivering that now famous Focal sound. They are Bluetooth 4.1 aptX compatible, offering sound quality close to CD performance from an innovative 40mm Titanium Mylar driver.

Thermosensitive memory foam on the earpads provides optimal comfort, even during long listening sessions. The Listen Wireless Chic also offers a dual ‘Clear Voice Capture’ microphone system, which improves voice quality during conversations. Battery life is rated at 20 hours of autonomous playtime.

The Listen Wireless Chic will become available in May for $299 US.

Gnarbox allows you to edit and share photos and video on the go!

Like many photographers, I always have the need to edit and send or share photos or video while I am on the go or in the field. Over the years I have tried many different setups that always involved a laptop and carrying more than I needed or wanted to.

Recently, I learned about a device that could possibly solve this problem for me and not only allow me to accomplish basic editing but definitely lighten my load.

Gnarbox with the use of IOS and Android mobile apps, allows you to be able to view, edit and share RAW photos, and edit 4K video right on the phone or tablet. It creates its own hotspot so that the phone or tablet can connect to it. The Gnarbox is available with either 128GB or 256GB of storage, and has USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and Micro SD ports built-in. It has a rechargeable battery that lasts approximately 4 to 6 hours and at rates of up to 4GB per minute, it can be backed up to external drives for safekeeping of files. It is also shockproof and water resistant which is great since mishaps when on the go are par for the course.

The Gnarbox is available at Amazon and B&H Photo Video starting at $299.99.

Make your own granola bars at home

Granola bars are available everywhere, but sometimes it seems they aren’t really different than candy bars.  If you like granola bars but you want more control over the ingredients, make your own with the Tescoma Granola Bar Press.  The press is made from food-grade silicone and BPA-free plastics, so you won’t worry about adding any unwanted chemicals to your fresh, healthy ingredients.

The press includes three silicone molds, three stackable plastic housings, cap, set of 25 sealable granola bar bags, and a recipe/instructional booklet.  You can make unbaked or baked bars (only the silicone molds are oven safe).  Each bar is 4″ x 1.25″ x 0.5″.  The kit pieces, except for the top cap, are top-rack dishwasher-safe.

The Tescoma Granola Bar Press is $28.00 at The Grommet.  Three extra silicone molds are available for $14.95, and a set of 25 extra BPA-free bar bags are $5.00.
