The Buca Boot adds storage to your bicycle

NEWS – What do you do with your bike helmet when you get to your destination?  If you don’t have some sort of storage container on your bike, you have to carry it with you.  Add the Buca Boot to your bike, and you’ll have storage for books, bags, helmets – whatever you might need to carry for your day.

The Buca Boot is a hardshell box 8″ x 15.75″ x 12.5″.  It screws on to the back of your bike; the screws can’t be accessed unless the box is open, which makes it theft-resistant.  The top is made of marine-grade wood; the handles are brass-plated zinc.  Two rip-stop nylon pannier bags are attached to the sides.

Open the top, and the two bags open up for extra storage.  The pannier bags plus the Buca Boot itself can hold up to 30 pounds in the open storage, so you can bring home a couple of bags of groceries with no problems.  When the lid is closed and locked, you can safely store your tool kit or small important stuff inside the hardshell box.  The gasketed lid keeps your stuff dry, so you won’t need to worry about a little rain.

The Buca Boot is available in white with tomato red, blue, or steel colored accents and pannier bags.  The cost is $225.00 at Bike Pretty.

Replace your clunky wooden cutting board with the woodNflex flexible cutting board

NEWS – I fashion myself as somewhat of an amateur cook. One of the things I use a lot to prepare meals is an old wooden cutting board. I’ve tried using those flexible plastic boards, but I just prefer the feel of my old wooden board. The problem with wood, of course, is that it’s a little cumbersome and it doesn’t flex or bend, until now. The woodNflex flexible cutting board gives you the best of both worlds.

woodNflex has a natural wood cutting surface that is backed by food-grade silicone. The thick silicone base gives the board grip and some bendability.

The wood cutting surface is a veneer made from natural American hardwood.

woodNflex’s lightweight and thin design make it easy to wash and store. It also adds a protective layer to your countertop. And because it’s flexible, it’s easier to transfer whatever you’re cutting from the board to a bowl or pan.

You can even use it as a server for things like cheese and party favors.

The board measures 14” x 11” and comes in either oak ($32.99) or dark walnut ($34.99).

The woodNflex cutting board is available on Amazon.

Grind your own coffee beans with the Handground manual grinder

NEWS – Coffee snobs connoisseurs know you only use freshly ground beans to make coffee.  And everybody knows that the key to great coffee is a precisely even grind of the correct coarseness for your type of brewer.  There are a variety of grinders on the market you could choose from in your search for the perfect grinder.  Blade coffee grinders are inexpensive, but they hack the beans into uneven chunks, which won’t work well for a good brew.  Burr coffee grinders do a better job at grinding, but the best ones are usually expensive.  The folks at Handground worked with “thousands of coffee enthusiasts around the world” to design a grinder that produces a consistent grind with 15 coarseness settings at a very reasonable price.

Handground is a manual grinder, so you can use it at home or take it along on your travels.  Features include:

  • Locking top so bean particles don’t fly out while you grind
  • Side-mounted handle for better ergonomics
  • Wide base for more stability while grinding
  • 100g Capacity hopper able to contain enough coffee beans for 5 cups of joe
  • Coarseness adjustment ring to select a grind setting with one twist
  • 15 preset coarseness levels at 165 micron intervals fit for any method of brewing
  • 40mm conical burrs made from densely sintered Alumina ceramic which has high strength and hardness, temperature stability, and high wear resistance and corrosion resistance
  • Triple mounted stainless steel axle to eliminate burr wobble and produce a consistent grind
  • Glass catcher to prevent static and sticky grounds

Each grinder comes with a magnet that shows the coarseness setting needed for various brewing styles.

Handground started out as a Kickstarter project that is now available for purchase.  It’s available in black for $69.00 or nickel for $89.00.  You may purchase the Handground grinder at either Amazon or the Handgrind website.

The CRE8 Sounds Earbuds may offer the best sound for every occasion

NEWS – Lately, my gadget world has been focused on several different devices including earbuds. I may just be a bit obsessed with finding the perfect earbuds for me. Every week from Monday to Friday, I take the railroad for about an hour each way back and forth between home and work. Most days, this journey is when I get my quiet time, and when I relax on the way to work and prepare my mind and mood for the day ahead and unwind on the way home. Music is my tool, and as an audiophile, the perfect sounding noise-canceling earbuds are my ultimate goal.

Each time I get to audition new earbuds that prove to be better than the previous ones, I become less compromising and want more. Cre8 Sounds offers two models of earbuds, the CR8-1, and the CR8-2 Sport Wireless Earbuds. The manufacturer claims that both models have been designed to deliver superior sound, with clear audio and deep bass. The design includes a built-in ear hook, and they are small and light to provide comfort and an extra secure fit even when performing the most rigorous of tasks and body movements. The CR8-1 model is offered in multiple colors to match your personal choice. The CR8-2 is a limited edition model and only offered in white.

If you are interested in learning more about the CR8 Sport Wireless Earbuds or if you would like to purchase them, you can head over to the Cre8 Sounds website. The CR8-1 model sells for $65 and the CR8-2 for $75.
