Is the Welbean Heartscope a Star Trek medical tricorder for your ticker?

I remember watching episodes of Star Trek when I was a kid and wishing I had a tricorder or a communications badge.
Those types of gadgets aren’t sci-fi anymore. We already have small communicators in our pockets that can call people anywhere in the world as well as so many other things. We also have wearable fitness gear that can track our steps, our heart rate, and sleep. But a true wireless medical tricorder that can scan for medical problems is still out of the reach of regular consumers. Or is it?

Take a look at the Welbean Heartscope. This small disk has been designed to scan your heart contractility, motility, and heart rate without needing to attach electrical leads to your chest. After 30 seconds the mobile app will provide insights into your heart health and how your actions and exercise effect your most important organ.

Welbean Heartscope provides much more information about your heart than EKG can do. Your heart is essentially a muscular pump that never stops. While EKG only reflect the electrical aspect of heart nerves, Welbean focuses on measuring and analyzing your heart’s physical activities and charismatic movement patterns, which reflects all aspects of heart tissues including muscle, nerve, valve, and membranes.

Right now the Welbean Heartscope is only compatible with iOS devices like the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. You can read more about it at welbean.com and you can buy one for $159 from Amazon.

If you are having trouble sleeping or you’re feeling overly anxious, trying Relax Pro by Thync could be a drug-free and fairly inexpensive way to get some relief. This device stimulates your nerves to trigger a natural mechanism inside your body which signals your autonomic nervous system to allow your mind to tell your body to relax. Sounds fantastic to me!

The device itself costs $149 and you can choose to pay month by month for the neurostimulation programs and pads which are $29.oo per month, or get the 12-month plan and pay $19.00 per month.  For the diehards out there…you can spend $429 and get a lifetime subscription and enough pads for 100 sessions.  All plans come with a 30-day money back guarantee.

RowBike is a rowing machine on wheels

The 4-wheeled RowBike gets you where you want to go and gives you a whole body workout at the same time which burns 50% more calories than a traditional bike.

Invented by Scott Olson, the creator of Rollerblade inline skates, the RowBike is a rowing machine built onto a 4-wheeled bike frame. RowBikes are available in 2 and 4-wheeled versions, but we’re highlighting the 4-wheeled version here.

Instead of pedaling, the rowing cycle moves forward by rowing with the patented handlebar. As you row, the bike provides a full-body workout of cardio and strength training for your core, legs, and arms while offering the freedom of riding a bike.

The RowBike has an aluminum frame, a padded seat, a thumb-operated gearshift, a seven-speed derailleur, 20″ diameter tires, and front and rear caliper hand brakes. The 4-wheeled version of the RowBike is designed to accommodate riders 4′ 3″ and taller (up to 300 lbs).

This interesting exercise vehicle does have one problem. The price. At $3000, it’s definitely not going to be an impulse purchase like the As Seen On TV fitness products that people buy and then never use.

If the RowBike looks like a fun way to burn some calories and you have a LOT of disposable cash, head over to rowbike.com to read more about them and Hammacher Schlemmer to order one.

Ringly makes smart jewelry for those times when you want to feel pretty

Let’s face it, fitness bands and smartwatches aren’t the most attractive accessories on the market. They usually have either a masculine or unisex style that does not blend well with fancier feminine attire. Ringly is a company who offers a more glamorous alternative to boring black silicone banded wearables.

Ringly’s water resistant smart rings and bracelets pair with your smartphone to show notifications using vibration and light. They also track your steps, distance, and calories burned throughout the day.

When it’s time to turn in for the night, you can tuck the ring or bracelet into a specially designed jewelry box that doubles as a battery charger.

Ringly rings and bracelets are available in a variety of colors / styles and are priced at $165. You can find more info at ringly.com and order one from Amazon.
