Listen to music with this bracelet

What do you do with your earbuds when you’re not listening to music?  Forget about sticking them in a pocket where they’ll get tangled up – wear them on your wrist instead.  The Wristband Headphones with Microphone by Wraps are worn as a wraparound bracelet when you aren’t using them.  The wires have a braided textured fabric covering that prevents them from tangling and are thick enough to easily wrap and unwrap around your wrist.

They have 10mm dynamic speakers and a 20Hz frequency response microphone.  You click the button microphone to pause or play music and make or take a call.  They measure 51.18″ x 1.65″ x 0.47″ and are made of TPE, plastic, and polyester fabric.  The Wristband Headphones with Microphone are available in denim, coal, or camo colors for $24.95 at The Grommet.

Techno Jewelry – The perfect geek gift!

I have to admit I am not a big jewelry wearer.  I tend to put on a favorite pair of earrings and my wedding ring and call it a day.  Once in a blue moon I will wear a necklace.  However, this project I found on Kickstarter has me thinking I could be wearing this necklace every day.  The necklace is called ‘Styleables: The fully customizable future of fashion’.   It is a necklace (the more expensive option lets you wear it as a brooch or a bowtie including a necklace) that essentially has a mini 1.63 inch screen (320 x 320 pixels) that lets you modify what it displays through an app on your phone.  The app is supported by IOS and Android.  It has up to a 12 hour battery life.  The black plastic frame version with a matching chain and charger will cost you about $78.  If you want a metal frame (in black, silver, gold or rose gold) it will cost about $121.   The campaign ends on March 4th.  Check it out at: Kickstarter.

The Ignite ring is made of lava rock and glows

Although this Kickstarter project falls more into the cool factor than a gadget, the Ignite ring does fuse lava rock, a proprietary polymer and carbon fiber to a unique ring. As you can see from the picture, the Ignite has an outer hard shell (lava rock) and a glowing inner polymer ring. The lava rock in this ring is actually broken down, reformed and then shaped into the ring form. The Ignite has three versions on the Kickstarter page each with its own characteristics. The V1 is the ring with the inner glow. V2 has the inner flow and an outer glow ring of the same color. V3 lets you pick the colors of the inner glow and outer ring, they can be different from each other. I am drawn to the Ignite V3 that lets you pick the inner glow and the outer ring glow. With glow colors including white, teal, violet, orange, green and blue there is probably a color that will appeal to you. Pledges for this project start at $35 for an Ignite V1. This project runs through February 15, 2018, and if successful will ship in the April 2018 time frame.

Oura announces a new sleeker fitness ring and I want one!

Several months ago I had the opportunity to test and review a very slick fitness tracking device that had the form factor of a ring that you wear on your finger like an ordinary piece of jewelry. That was the original Oura ring and I really enjoyed using it but ended up shelving it due to the size. Now Oura is back with the second generation of their fitness and sleep tracking ring and oh boy, I am excited about it.

The new Oura Ring is now sized like a ring that I would actually want to wear because it’s less than half the size of the first generation Oura ring while still allowing for a seven day battery life. The titanium water resistant ring will be available in three styles and a choice of up to four colors depending on the style.

Like standard fitness tracking devices that you might wear on your wrist or clipped to your clothes, the Oura ring keeps track of your activity and steps. But this ring also helps to improve the quality of your sleep.

During the night, the new Oura ring tracks sleep quality, sleep stages (deep, REM, light and wakefulness), ECG level resting heart rate and heart rate variability as well as body temperature. With the new ring, users can also see their resting heart rate and heart rate variability on-demand during the day, for example during naps, meditation or breathing and relaxation exercises.

This is one of the first wearables available to consumers that offers advice on how to improve your unique circadian alignment. The circadian rhythm is your body’s built-in 24-hour clock that affects everything you do: when it would be optimal for you to sleep, rest, eat and move. The new Oura ring helps you find your optimal bedtime so you will have a more restorative sleep and good optimal recovery from daily stresses.

The second generation Oura ring can be preordered for $239 to $899 with shipping in April 2018. Visit ouraring.com for all the details.
