Traeger’s new Pro WiFi pellet grill is smarter, faster, and smokier

NEWS – With spring and summer just around the corner that can mean only one thing, IT’S GRILLING SEASON! Traeger, the popular manufacturer of wood pellet grills, introduced a new line based on their best-selling Pro Series grill.

There are two models available for 2019, the Pro 575 and Pro 780. The names correspond with the amount of square inch cooking capacity each model has.

The new wood pellet grills have been updated with Traeger’s WiFire Technology. WiFire enables grillers to monitor and change the grills temperatures, track the temperature of the food being grilled, and even add smoke from anywhere using the Traeger smartphone app.

With the app, you can browse through and download hundreds of recipes directly to the WiFire Controller to get step-by-step guidance through the entire cook cycle with GrillGuide.

Traeger’s new D2 Direct Drive Technology delivers more power to the grill, creating ultra-fast startups. A variable speed fan and auger provide optimal wood pellet smoke for the finest hardwood flavor.

The new Pro D2 controller gives users more precise control over cooking temperatures, leading to more consistent results.

Each Pro model includes a 2-tier grate system, meat probe, and 18-pound capacity wood pellet hopper. The Traeger Pro 575 ($799.99) and Pro 780 ($999.99) are available in black or bronze. You can purchase them online from Traeger or your local Home Depot.

It’s a dessert topping! It’s a floor wax! Gourmia introduces air fryer toaster ovens

NEWS – Unlike the old comedy sales pitch on Saturday Night Live, Gourmia’s combinations make sense.  Fresh off their announcement of new CoolCookers that combine refrigeration with slow or pressure cooking, Gourmia has announced a complete line of combination air fryer toaster ovens.

Catering to the ever-growing market of those of us with limited counter and cabinet space, Gourmia is creatively combining appliances so one item does the job of two or more.  In this case, you get a full-featured toaster oven, technically, already a combo, combined with a capable air fryer.

The air fryer function leverages Gourmia’s AeroCrisp technology for up to 80% less fat in your meals.  The toaster oven can cook with temps up to 400 or 450 degrees, depending on the model. It has multiple rack positions and can toast up to six slices of bread at a time.

The eight new models units are sized from an 18 to 27 quart capacity, 1500 to 1800 watts of cooking power and between 6 and 22 different cooking modes.

Gourmia is ETL certified, meaning that their products have all undergone rigorous safety testing and meet Underwriters Laboratory (UL) standards for safety.

All eight new models will be available later in 2019 at major retailers. Pricing varies between $49 and $199. For more information go to www.gourmia.com.

KFC is going crowdfunding crazy

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – KFC Innovation Labs, founded in 2019, is taking KFC’s craziest marketing ideas to the public through Indiegogo crowdfunding campaigns.  For all the campaigns, they are a hard go/no-go depending on whether they reach their funding goals. To support a campaign, you can toss them $20, $50 or $60 and get a set of puffy stickers, a limited edition t-shirt or limited edition sweat pants.

Some of the campaigns also have purchase options, but they will only apply if the campaign gets funded.

Stay with me here, as it gets a little crazy!  Each of the titles below are links to the individual funding campaigns.

Kentucky Fried Hot Tub

Yup – they’re pitching a wood-fired hot tub that looks like a big old bucket of chicken.

Funding goal: $46,683. Additional perk: get a tub for $13,311. Funding as of this writing: $335.

Picnic with the Colonel

You can get an assemble-yourself cardboard picnic table and Colonel.  The table is said to be large enough to hold four folks and a KFC $20 fill-up with all the fixins.  Don’t plan to dine in the rain.  Because it’s cardboard.

Funding goal: $32,248. Additional perk: get a set for $1,020. Funding as of this writing: $80.

Smart cane remote

Throw out old canes and smart remotes! Here’s the “feature set”:

  • Integrated gyroscope and battery-powered microcontroller
  • Handsome cane shape
  • Colonel-head decorative handle
  • Rubber foot for optimal safety

But, the description says they are still working out details.

Funding goal: $195,052. Additional perk: get a cane for $1,703. Funding as of this writing: $50.

Little Colonel locator

Nothing looks better on a little one that the Colonel’s tie.  This one is linked up with a GPS and Bluetooth locator.  Style & function!

Funding goal: $10,050. Additional perk: get a tie for $132. Funding as of this writing: $1,022.

Colonel on Ice

Disney has done it.  Sesame Street has done it.  Why not the Colonel!

Funding goal: $2,206,750. Additional perks: be part of the Colonel’s army and get a thank you, $5; VIP show tickets, $150; be in the show, $50,000. Funding as of this writing: $55.

Obviously, more of a marketing ploy that an actual pitch for products, KFC is leveraging interest in crowdfunding to get some branded clothes out there.  But you never know.  This is the same company that once replaced buns on a sandwich with fried chicken.
