Shake up your next cookout with burger dogs

If you’re not a fan of hotdogs, don’t want to buy hamburger buns AND hotdog buns, or you want to confuse your guests at your next cookout, you need to check out these burger dog gadgets. What are burger dogs you ask? They are hamburgers shaped like hotdogs…duh!

For less than $9 you can start out with the Kitchen Art 18550 Ham Dogger which is a single plastic mold that lets you mold raw ground beef into a hotdog shape.

And then for the hardcore burger dog chef, there’s the Chef Tony Grease Away Burger Dog Pan for $11.96.

This is an all-in-one pan that lets you mold the ground beef into hotdog shaped burgers and lets you cook them.

The two-piece pan even allows the grease to drain away from the burger dog so that they are “healthier”. Now I’m hungry…

It’s not fondue, it’s the Fondoodler

Alright, I must admit that when I saw this product I said to myself, “WHY”. But as I thought about it for a minute (maybe three) I said: “why not”. I am of course talking about the Fondoodler.

The Fondoodler is described as a hot glue gun, but for cheese. You have to admire folks who want to help us play with our food. Designed to melt the cheese that you load into its canister, the Fondoodler puts out a stream of hot gooey cheese onto anything you can imagine.

In all honesty, I do see a practical side to this device, if you are a can cheese lover this may be a higher class alternative. So, if you are looking to have fun with your cheese, check out the Fondoodler either on their web page for $30 or on Amazon for $29.95.

A celiac’s new best friend: the Nima portable gluten sensor


For people with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition for which there is no cure, eating gluten-free isn’t just a way of life. It is life, considering a mere 20 ppm of gluten is all it takes to trip an immune response. Enter Nima, a portable gluten sensor that tests food for the presence of gluten exceeding the threshold of safety for celiacs.

The unit, which retails for $279 ($229 at the time of this posting), comes with three test vials, a micro-USB recharging cable and a carrying pouch, which fits in a purse or pocket. The unit measures 3.5 inches wide and 3.1 inches high and has bluetooth connectivity so it can synch to your smartphone. Users can contribute their test results to the Nima community using a free Nima app, which also provides a list of Nima-tested restaurants.

To test for the presence of gluten, users put a sample of food – liquid or solid – into a vial and insert the vial into the device. In three minutes, a wheat icon and a “gluten detected” warning will warn users if their food is not safe to consume; a smile icon gives diners the go-ahead.

Nima works using a combination of chemistry and sensors, and the vials are not reusable. Subscriptions are available for $59.95 per month for 12 capsules or $61.95 for 12 vials every other month. Those who eat restaurant or processed food often can opt for the $116.94, 24-capsule plan per month. Some foods – soy sauce, pure vinegar, beer, or alcohol – cannot be tested, leaving diners to make educated judgment calls before consumption.

I hope lunchboxes aren’t just for kids because I want this robot lunchbox


I have a small collection of robots that I have included in photos in many of my smartphone reviews. I especially like retro robots, which is why this classic robot lunchbox from Suck UK caught my eye.

Made of tin with whimsical graphics, this lunchbot lunchbox is small but functional.
