Give Mom a challenge for Mother’s Day

This double-sided puzzle is a great gift for people who love Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture, jigsaw puzzles, or who just love a challenge.  The puzzle features a photo of Wright’s Fallingwater as it soars over the waterfall on one side and the building’s blueprint on the other side.  To help make it a little easier to sort the pieces before assembling, the photo side has a glossy finish, while the blueprint side is matte.

The 500-piece puzzle is 20-inches square when completed.  It’s made of cardboard and paper, and it’s suitable for ages 13+.  The Frank Lloyd Wright Double-Sided Puzzle is only $16.00 at UncommonGoods.

Celebrating the life and humor of Stephen Hawking – see the Quantum Chess showdown with Paul Rudd

Stephen Hawking, a renowned theoretical physicist, and well-known author passed away on March 14, 2018. He may have been one of the more famous and brilliant scientists of our time, but isn’t it wonderful to know that he had a fabulous sense of humor? It makes him a bit more human to the rest of us.

I thought it would be nice to celebrate him and his humor by sharing a video released two years ago of the epic Quantum Chess match between him and Ant Man‘s Paul Rudd. The video is narrated by Keanu Reeves and directed by Alex Winter (from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure). Whether you are seeing it for the first time or this is your umpteenth time, it is thoroughly entertaining.

Quantum Chess is a real game and was created by Chris Cantwell, a University of Southern California graduate student. He created a Kickstarter campaign back in early 2016 to help get Quantum Chess out to the public to encourage people everywhere that “anyone can quantum”. Read his story here. You can find out more about Quantum Chess and get early access to the game ($9.99) by clicking on this link.

There also appears to be a couple of other Quantum Chess games available through Apple’s App Store and Google Play, just in case you want to check them out…

Before rescuing your next damsel in distress, you’ll need a license

“Dragons are a childhood fancy, right up to the moment that one rips your best suit coat.”  –  Louis Baston, Secretary of the Bureau of Dragons

For all you dragonslayers, you’ll need to get yourself a license to slay dragons before your next trip there and back again or next outing to rescue damsels.  The Bureau of Dragons can issue the proper documents to make you a certified dragonslayer.

The Bureau avers that dragons are real and have existed before the dawn of man.  “The Bureau of Dragons is a non-governmental organization tasked with monitoring all known dragon-human interactions, and sole regulatory body for issuing a License to Slay.”   The Bureau’s website has been set up for two purposes: to train people in the ways of dragons, and to license people to slay.

If you or someone you know aspires to be a slayer of dragons, you can procure the proper license from the Bureau of Dragons for $9.95.  You’ll get an official license stamped with your name and number for your wallet and one official Certificate of Authority to frame for your wall.  Get your license and begin your education in dragons at the Bureau of Dragons.

Sinemia, a less restrictive, tech-savvy monthly movie ticket subscription service, has officially launched in the U.S.

If you watch a lot of movies in theaters, you know how expensive tickets are.  Sinemia is a subscription service that can help you save money while still enjoying trips to the theater.  You won’t be restricted to only certain theaters,  date/times, or movie.  You can watch any format – from 2D  to 3D, IMAX, 4DX, DBOX, or ScreenX – at any major theater in the US.  And you’ll save money for popcorn, because you can watch 3 movies per month for about the price of a single ticket.

With Sinemia, you’ll purchase a membership plan that you pay for monthly (with no obligation) or yearly.  Once you receive your Sinemia card in the mail, you’ll use it like a debit card to purchase tickets for any movie you’d like, and you can use the card to purchase tickets online or at the theater.  You can purchase a 3 movies per month plan ($15.99 paid monthly or $13.99/month in a yearly payment) or 2 movies per month plan ($10.99 paid monthly or $8.99/month paid yearly) membership.  There’s also a Sinemia for Two plan so you can get two tickets in one transaction.

You’ll use the Sinemia app to look for and select the movie you want to see, and then purchase the movie tickets your normal way, using the Sinemia card instead of a debit card.  Sinemia says:  “The free Sinema app is designed to cater to a movie-goer’s every whim, from Uber transportation integration to local dining discounts (so. many. features.)

Learn more and purchase your plans at Sinemia.

Build your own VW Van before summer

The VW Bus T1 Campervan 3D puzzle from Ravensburger won’t be big enough to drive to the beach this summer, but it will decorate a bookshelf nicely.  It’s designed after the Samba, in the United States also known as Sunroof Deluxe, which Ravensburger says was the most luxurious version of the T1.  The puzzle is made of all plastic pieces that fit and stay together without needing glue.  You’ll build the body on the included wheeled base, and you can assemble by eye or by checking the numbers on the back of the pieces if you run into a snag.

The design is printed directly on the plastic pieces, so there are no glued on papers to get damaged or peel off.  Building the van is a great family activity for children ages 10+.  Once it’s completed, the van measures 11.75″ x 5.5″ x 6″.

You can purchase the Ravensburger Volkswagen T1 Campervan-162 Piece 3D Puzzle for $29.99 at Amazon.
