Forget taking 12+ hours to cold brew coffee with Cuisinart

Most of the cold brewers for coffee that I’ve seen lately take 12-24 hours to brew a pot.  With the Cuisinart DCB-10 cold coffee brewer, you can brew a pot in as little as 25 minutes.  Like other cold brewers where the coffee sits in the water and slowly extracts, the Cuisinart machine starts with cold or room temperature water.  But Cuisinart’s “unique spin technology circulates coffee through water for total flavor extraction in a fraction of the time manual brewers require.”

The coffee grounds are never exposed to the high temperatures that extract the oils that cause bitterness, so your brew is smoother.  There are three flavor strength settings, so you can brew the coffee the way you like it.  The three brewing cycles are mild (25 min), medium (35 min) and bold (45 min).   The coffee can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Have Alexa tell your GE refrigerator to brew you a cup of coffee

Come up to the lab for some cold-brewed coffee

I have a B.S. in chemistry, so you can imagine I have a fondness for laboratory glassware.  That’s why the Ovalware RJ3 Airtight Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker caught my eye.  But you don’t need a degree in chemistry to make coffee in this maker.  You simply add ground coffee and cold water and come back in a few hours.  You may wonder why anyone would bother with cold-brewing when there are so many coffee makers on the market that can produce a cup in seconds or a whole pot in a few minutes.  Well, cold brewed coffee has a richer taste and is 70% less acidic than hot brewed.  It’s a concentrated solution sitting in your fridge until you decide to dilute it to make iced coffee or heat it for a hot cup.  It also works great for brewing tea from loose tea or tea bags.

The brewer is available in a one- or 1.5-liter size.  The carafe is extra-thick, lab-tested borosilicate glass that can even stand up to hot brewing.  The rust-free superfine dual-mesh filter and the cap are made of 18/8 medical-grade stainless steel. The cap has a BPA-free silicone airtight seal. The whole kit is dishwasher safe.

Put ground coffee in the mesh filter, add water, and put the carafe in the fridge for 12-24 hours, depending on how strong you like your coffee.  When brewing is done, remove the filter.  You can store the concentrated coffee in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

The DRIPO Cold Brew Portable Barista Iced Coffee Maker may just make the perfect cup of iced coffee


Some of the readers that have been following my news stories already know that I am a coffee drinker, and that I must have 2 cups of French Vanilla flavored coffee first thing each morning when I get to work. This is the same for many of my co-workers, and can be the core of much contention, should my coffee make not have sufficient freshly brewed coffee at the expected time.

There is one specific co-worker who loves iced coffee, and this adds additional controversy since after everyone has had their share, there must be enough coffee left in the coffee maker for her to make her iced coffee. Unfortunately, there are many days when the coffee pot is bone way before lunchtime, and unfortunately, I get an earful of her complaints.

I decided to look for a solution specifically for her, and I found the DRIPO Cold Brew Portable Barista Iced Coffee Maker. This is a cold-drip coffee maker that uses its own cold drip method to brew iced coffee. It is a slow drip method that according to the manufacturer’s specifications, takes 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours to make the “perfect” cup of iced coffee. Apparently, other similar systems take a lot longer, which is one aspect that is supposed to make this coffee maker more appealing. It weighs only 1.2 pounds, and makes a 10 ounce cup of coffee in the self-contained cup. And of course, you can use your favorite brand of coffee.

The Cuisinart DCC-3000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker gets your day off to a great start


If you are anything like me, your work day has to start with a cup or two of coffee. I particularly like the French Vanilla flavor, and everyone in the office knows when I get to work in the mornings, because of the great aroma of that Folgers French Vanilla ground coffee. They have become so accustomed to the scent that I can never pretend to be at work when I am not. This custom has evolved into a responsibility on me, to make coffee for several of my co-workers every morning, and has forced me to look at coffee makers that may work better than my current one.

My research has led me to a few, and today I am looking at the Cuisinart DCC-3000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker. That name alone is a mouthful. This coffeemaker touts an on-demand system that dispenses one cup at a time, and up to 12 cups for each filled water reservoir. As folks grab cups of coffee, there is a gauge that shows how many cups are available, and in my case it would indicate how much closer we are to the main event fight for the last cup. A nice feature is the included charcoal water filter that makes sure that each cup of coffee tastes great, and with the programmable shutoff and the self-clean functions, it will be ready at every moment for the next brew and eventual fight.
