Godox AD600Pro Witstro All-In-One Outdoor Flash is great indoors or outdoors

I have been looking for a powerful off-camera flash that I can use both in-studio and outdoors. I recently saw a YouTube video on the Godox AD600Pro Witstro All-In-One Outdoor Flash. This unit functions as both a flash and a modeling lamp. While it is labeled as an outdoor flash, it is usable both indoors and outdoors.

It has a 2.4 GHz wireless system with a range of 328 feet, and 600 watts of output power with nine steps of power increments. It is also compatible with the TTL systems for Canon, Nikon, Sony and Panasonic. Its included battery pack is capable of 360 full-power flashes which will work well outdoors and on location, and there is an optional AC power adapter that can be purchased separately. The AC adapter is great when using the monolight with the desired attachments in-studio, where the need to be portable is not an issue. It has a stable color temperature mode which keeps color temperature changes within +/- 75K regardless of the power setting. It is also capable of 0.9 seconds of flash recycle times. It has a color temperature of 5600K, a 3.5mm sync cord for direct connection, a USB Type-C port for performing firmware upgrades and a wireless control port.

If the Godox AD600Pro Witstro All-In-One Outdoor Flash sound as great to you as it does to me, you can purchase one at Amazon or B&H Photo Video for $899.

Note: The trigger for each make of camera is sold separately.

The Rhino Slider EVO Motorized Camera Slider is smooth, quiet and versatile

Using a slider for video and to add interest to a scene, or for time-lapse photography, is not only fun but it allows you to extend the boundaries of your creativity. Over the years, I have spent a lot of money on sliders, always looking for the right movement, or length, or versatility or portability, etc. The latest slider to catch my attention is the Rhino Slider EVO – Motorized Camera Slider.

It is a professional motorized camera slider with a battery powered controller that like other sliders is designed for live motion or time-lapse shots. It has spring loaded legs that fold, and the ability to level the legs to accommodate any unevenness and any type of terrain.

It can also be mounted on a tripod for additional versatility, and Rhino makes rails that are available in steel or carbon fiber for weight considerations. There is also a carriage brake for locking the movement at any point on the rails.

If you would like to purchase the Rhino Slider EVO – Motorized Camera Slider, you can head over to their website and pick one up starting at $500.
Note: Accessories for motorized movement are extra.

The Lastolite Joe McNally Ezybox Speed-Lite 2 Plus is reliable gear for the photographer

In my world of portrait photography and what I call “object” photography, I frequently utilize my Canon Speedlite flash head along with a softbox to get that beautiful, wide, soft light I need to flood and enhance my subject. That kind of lighting also creates interest and enhances the detail.

Thus far, the problem that I have encountered with all of the softboxes that I own is the badly designed method that they all use to be attached to my flash. They attach via Velcro in some sort of way, and over time during a shoot, they either become detached on one side or in some cases, they fall off completely.

As I continued my search for a better designed softbox, I came across the Lastolite Joe McNally Ezybox Speed-Lite 2 Plus. This 8.7” x 8.7” softbox mounts to the flash with “a secure twist-lock silicone strap”. It has two built-in magnets for mounting accessories as needed, and it can also be used off-camera. By design, it is capable of producing a very soft light with the use of both interior and exterior diffusers. It folds flat for easy packing, and it even comes with its own carrying bag.

If you are like me and you have been looking for a softbox like this, you can pick one up at B&H Photo Video for $78.88.

The Datacolor SpyderCUBE RAW Calibration Tool keeps your photos true to color

After many years of working in the photography and videography/filmmaking industry, there are many occasions when I still find myself editing photos where dialing in the “true” color is an issue, and I have to spend extra time editing to achieve satisfactory results. Realistically, this is quite unnecessary, since there are many products that are available to help with or solve the color challenge.

The Datacolor SpyderCUBE RAW Calibration Tool is one of the available products. It is a digital color balancing tool that allows you to correct the color temperature, exposure, brightness, blacks, and whites of your photographs. It makes editing and adjusting your RAW photographs in post-production much easier. To use it, you simply place the spider cube in the area of light of the environment where you are planning to take pictures. This can be done by hanging it or having someone hold it. It can also be mounted on a tripod or light stand. The grey, white, chrome, and black surfaces, and black trap for Shadow Detail Control, must be visible to your camera and in the frame of the picture.

When used in the same lighting conditions as your photographs, it provides enough information for your editing software for optimal color adjustment. While I have not yet tried it, it seems to be a helpful tool for photographers at any level.

You can purchase the Datacolor SpyderCUBE RAW Calibration Tool at Amazon or B&H Photo Video for $49.
