SmartHalo adds GPS navigation and more to your bicycle

SmartHalo is a device that attaches to your bicycle’s handlebars to provide visual GPS navigation, a headlight, alarm, and even fitness tracking. The SmartHalo device was a successfully funded Kickstarter project from 2015, but it looks like they just now starting to ship to their backers and offer the device to the public.

The device features an LED ring that lights up in different colors and sections to provide turn-by-turn visual cues while riding to a destination that is set through the companion app on your phone.

SmartHalo will automatically log your activity as you ride – including your traveling time, distance, average speed, elevation and more.

If you get a call or text while you’re riding, the unit will light up so you won’t miss an important notification.

Other features include anti-theft alarm, a double LED headlight, bike locator, and more.

The SmartHalo is priced at $149 through smarthalo.bike where you can read more about it. You also might want to head over to the Kickstarter page to read the user comments before you order because there appear to be some growing pains with this new product that the company is still trying to work on.

RowBike is a rowing machine on wheels

The 4-wheeled RowBike gets you where you want to go and gives you a whole body workout at the same time which burns 50% more calories than a traditional bike.

Invented by Scott Olson, the creator of Rollerblade inline skates, the RowBike is a rowing machine built onto a 4-wheeled bike frame. RowBikes are available in 2 and 4-wheeled versions, but we’re highlighting the 4-wheeled version here.

Instead of pedaling, the rowing cycle moves forward by rowing with the patented handlebar. As you row, the bike provides a full-body workout of cardio and strength training for your core, legs, and arms while offering the freedom of riding a bike.

The RowBike has an aluminum frame, a padded seat, a thumb-operated gearshift, a seven-speed derailleur, 20″ diameter tires, and front and rear caliper hand brakes. The 4-wheeled version of the RowBike is designed to accommodate riders 4′ 3″ and taller (up to 300 lbs).

This interesting exercise vehicle does have one problem. The price. At $3000, it’s definitely not going to be an impulse purchase like the As Seen On TV fitness products that people buy and then never use.

When you think about the construction of a bicycle, you probably think of high tech light weight metals and materials like carbon fiber. But wood is probably not a material that comes to mind when you k about bicycles. After you take a look at the new John Day bicycle from Renovo Hardwood Bicycles, that will change – forever.

The Renovo John Day is a mixed terrain road bike that can smoothly switch from paved roads to gravel roads due to its vibration damping features.

Made of Black Walnut, Spruce, the JD’s frame is hollow, allowing it to be lightweight, nimble and durable.

The hollow frame also allows for a more streamlined look. Notice anything missing from the images above? The cables… They are hidden inside the wooden frame.

The John Day Renovo Hardwood Bicycle is not your average Walmart or even Schwinn special. It will set you back a cool $6150 (or more) if you want a fully built bike. Or if you’re feeling frugal, you can opt for just the frame for $4250.

Polar’s new M460 GPS bike computer is for serious cyclists

The new Polar M460 GPS is an advanced bike computer that offers features for serious cyclists like power meter compatibility, power metrics, smart coaching, and Strava Live Segments that allows cyclists to see their real-time stats to help them reach their performance goals.

The Polar M460 also shows notifications for incoming calls, text messages, calendar alarms and social media updates.
