Pound nails not fingers with the Safety Nailer

NEWS – I’m the son of a carpenter, but I did not inherit the carpenter gene from my father. Admittedly I’m terrible when it comes to using a hammer and nails. Maybe its because I’m left-handed (or at least that’s what I tell myself), but I either bend the nail, drive it in crooked, or worse end up smashing my fingers with the hammer.

The Safety Nailer magnetic nail holder makes hammering easier and safer.

And it can even be used with screws.

The tool attaches to your fingers using elastic bands and allows you to start nails and screws while protecting your fingers.

It also helps prevent nails from buckling and keeps screws from wobbling.

The large target area is made of impact-resistant ABS plastic, nails are held in place with strong neodymium magnets. There are 3 different size nail groves with the largest capable of holding a size 20D nail.

Safety Nailer is large enough to protect your fingers but small enough that it won’t get in your way while you’re working. And when you’re not using it, it can be stored on your hammer.

The Safety Nailer magnetic nail holder costs $9.95 and is available from The Grommet.

JooJoobs Leather Biker Wallet review

REVIEW – Over the years I have purchased many wallets of various sizes, capacity and build quality, and much like my gear bags, I can never seem to find one that works for every occasion in terms of my outfit and carrying capacity. I now have the opportunity to test and review a different type/style of wallet. The JooJoobs Leather Biker Wallet is an entirely new adventure for me. So let’s see!

What is it?

The JooJoobs Leather Biker Wallet is crafted using premium full-grain distressed cowhide leather. It features several card slots and inside pockets. It also features a zippered pocket and is built to last.

What’s in the box

1 x JooJoobs Leather Biker Wallet

Design and features

Features

  • 4 large pockets
  • 4 card slots (12+ cards)
  • Zippered pocket
  • Smartphone pocket
  • Cash pocket for unfolded bills
  • Secure snap closure
  • Leather snap belt closure
  • 20″ Chain
  • Full grain distressed leather
  • JooJoobs signature Hand-Stitching
  • Size: 3.5″ by 7.5″

This well made and well-stitched wallet has a security chain attached to it via a lug and screw. The chain is 20 inches long and has a leather strap with a clasp attached to the other end.

When you open the wallet, there are clasps that allow it to be closed and secured either by itself or over a belt. There are also credit card/ID slots and a zippered pouch.

Below the credit card/ID slots there is a cell phone pocket.

On the side opposite the credit card slots, there is a zippered pouch, and below the zippered pouch, there is a pocket that can be used for money, etc.

Performance

This wallet is very well made and well stitched. It leather also feels very good in my hands. In my opinion, it has enough slots and compartments to accommodate the EDC cards and money for most people. I am one of those people that carries extra “stuff” in my wallet that I really don’t need, so whenever I use this wallet, I will have to be selective of what I include.

The cell phone slot does hold my iPhone 10 XS Max, but only with a slim case as shown below.

The wallet clasps together so that it is able to be worn on a belt, and the chain can also be tethered to the belt via the leather loop and clasp.

What I like

  • The build quality including the leather used and the stitching.
  • The option to put it in my pocket or wear it on my belt
  • The capacity that the wallet has to hold money, cards, and a cell phone

What can be improved

  • The chain seems a bit long, but this is just my opinion

Final thoughts

When I first took this wallet out of its packaging, it seemed a bit clunky and impractical. However, as I tried it out for a while, it has grown on me. I like its ability to be carried on my belt, but I am concerned about how the curvature of my belt around my body will affect it over time. It can also be carried in my back pocket, and although it might be awkward, it can be carried in my jacket pocket albeit that the chain cannot be easily detached. Regardless, this wallet is manufactured primarily as a biker wallet, and in that capacity, it is my opinion that it would be absolutely fantastic.

MEZONE TWS earbuds sound great and also charge wirelessly – Notable crowdfunding campaign

CROWDFUNDING NEWS – There have been wireless earbuds for a few years now, but the latest innovation in wireless earbuds is called TWS and it stands for True Wireless Stereo. It doesn’t just mean that there isn’t a wire between each earbud. It means that you can use either earbud or both earbuds interchangeably.

What is it?

MEZONE are earbuds that feature a Qualcomm chip with TWS+ technology, Bluetooth 5.0, touch controls, wireless charging, and they are IPX7 waterproof.

Why do I like them?

Most wireless earbuds work in a master/slave mode where one earphone is the master and the other is the slave. This means that if the master gets lost, damaged or runs out of juice, the other earbud won’t work. MEZONE earbuds aren’t like that. You can use one or both interchangeably.

MEZONE claim that the earbuds are guaranteed to never fall out or cause your ears to get sore. I was sent a pre-production sample of the MEZONE earbuds I can’t completely agree with that claim. They are relatively comfortable, but they would fall out of my ears especially if I had them in while eating. I guess moving my jaw would dislodge them. So you have to take their claim with a grain of salt.

Some of my favorite features of the MEZONE are great sound quality, the touch controls which makes it easy to control music play/pause and answer/end calls without having to press a physical button which jams the earbuds farther into your ears. Ouch. With MEZONE, you can just tap the earbud.

But my favorite feature has to be the built-in wireless charging. You can set the case on any Qi charging pad and it will charge the batteries in the case and the earbuds themselves.

The MEZONE earbuds have a single 8hr charge play time and 80hrs of playtime using the charging case. If you don’t have a Qi charger (one comes with it), you can also use a USB Type-C cable.

Where can I find more info?

The MEZONE campaign ends on 4/28/19 they launched today and have already met their funding goal of $10,000. You can pre-order a pair of MEZONE earbuds starting at $75. After the MEZONE campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2019. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

Google Makes It Official and Announces Stadia Game-Streaming Service

Just two days ago we discussed the widely-expected Google game-streaming service that they’d been working on for a few years under the veil of Project Stream. On Tuesday Google made it official at the Game Developers Conference and announced the new service they are calling Stadia. Google Stadia Game-Streaming Service This goal from the beginning has been for Google’s project to be the “Netflix for games,” working on a subscription service. It was thought that it would work on any system without having to have a dedicated gaming console. We reported that it was unknown how it would work exactly but that there was a… Read more

11 Best Open-Source Software to Try in 2019

Open-source software feels like an anomaly in today’s corporate tech world. The idea that a community of developers are happy to work on a piece of software – usually for no money – for literally years seems ludicrous, and speaks to the passion that people have for making technology for the benefit of everyone. Open-source devs, we salute you! So to honor these tireless workers who quietly make our day-to-day computer experiences that much better, we’ve decided to write up a multi-platform list of what we deem the best open-source software you can get in 2019. Do note that there are tons of open-source software… Read more
