Belt buckles that James Bond could use if he had Oprah’s bank account

NEWS – Yes, this is a belt buckle. I know it looks more like… well… I am not really sure what it looks like. But trust me, it’s a belt buckle for the very VERY rich. How rich? I’m not sure because I can’t find any up to date pricing. I found a 5 year old article from 2014 that mentioned $400,000. Yes, that’s a 4 followed by a lot of zeros.

Roland Iten design and makes these luxury belt buckles because he felt there needed to be a better way to adjust the tightness of the belt when you sit. To solve that problem, he created a collection of buckles that feature some crazy mechanics made of expensive materials as well as precious gems. Check out this video which shows how the buckles work.

You can learn more about these incredible belt buckles and other insanely priced gear that you will never own by visiting Roland Iten.

How to Extract Zip Files in Linux

Zip files aren’t as common as they used to be when download speeds were slower and every saved byte mattered. Still, it’s a fairly common file type. Sooner or later, you’ll probably have to open one. Depending on the distribution you use, it’s probably fairly easy to extract a zip archive. Even so, it can’t hurt to know some of the more advanced ways you can open zip files and deal with their contents. ROV 2-in-1 Wallet/Bag review

REVIEW – You didn’t misread the headline. This is not a review of Bob’s grocery order (don’t judge me, people). This is a review of the ROV Wallet. It transforms into a reusable tote bag that will fit everything you see in this picture and more! To the review!

What is it?

It’s a wallet that converts into a tote bag.

Hardware specs

  • Lightweight coated Ripstop Nylon construction.
  • Triple-reinforced shoulder strap for durability.
  • High-strength poly thread used throughout construction.

Design and features

We should all be ditching the plastic bags, right? But let’s be honest: sometimes we just don’t have that reusable tote handy. The folks at ROV are on a mission to get us right with this, and they have designed a simple, eco-friendly (and wallet-friendly!) solution for the problem.

Let’s start with the wallet itself. It’s mildly chunky (4″ by 3″ by 1″) due to it’s transforming ability, but the ripstop nylon construction makes it super lightweight. A simple velcro clasp keeps it sealed in route:

You’ve got 4 card slots that have plenty of give in them, so I think you could easily stash 2-3 cards in each slot. There’s a billfold pocket behind the card slots which is also pretty expandable. You pretty much get all the features you want in a basic wallet.

Now here’s where things get interesting. A bit of velcro and some origami-like folding tricks hide the tote bag in the wallet configuration. Pull down those velcro tabs on the inside face of the wallet to start opening everything up.

Now you start unfolding to reveal the tote bag.

When you’re done, the wallet flap now flips to the inside of the bag. The velcro secures the wallet pockets it so that your stuff doesn’t fall out. You’ll also find a thin but tough strap in there for hand- or over-the-shoulder carry.

And here we are, ready to pack your treasures! It’s a generous size at 16″ wide by 14″ deep, so you can get quite a bit of stuff in it.

The base has an extra layer of material for durability. The whole build is water- and tear-resistant so that you can carry all kinds of stuff without fear of busting out the bag.

I packed a six-pack of local libations and some assorted grocery goodies for my first test to see how it handles volume and weight. It performs like a champ.

I’ve also been carrying it for several weeks as my regular wallet. It’s perfect for someone like me who is a combination of eco-conscious and absent-minded. I’m always stopping at the store for a couple of things on the way home from work, and I regularly forget to stash a tote bag in the car. No excuses now! It is a little chunky if you prefer a slim wallet, but that’s offset by the lightweight construction.

I see a whole bunch of use cases for this besides the absent-minded grocery shopper. It’s a great accessory for traveling or sightseeing, where you may find yourself needing a tote for that treasure (or treasures) you didn’t expect to find on your day trip. And if you are camping or hitting the beach, it’s got even more ways to prove useful due to the durable & water-resistant build. Maybe you found some neat shells, or need to grab some kindling. Or you found a doughnut shop. Whatever the case may be, your hands stay free!

What I like

  • No more excuses for not having a reusable tote bag handy.
  • Solid usability in both wallet and tote bag form.
  • Lots of room for extra cards and cash in wallet mode.
  • Lightweight and durable construction.

What needs to be improved

  • Can be a little chunky in wallet mode (if you prefer slim wallets).

Final thoughts

I’m digging what the folks at ROV have cooked up with this one. We really need to stop making excuses for using plastic bags. The ROV Wallet solves that problem in a really usable way by turning your wallet into a functional multitasker. And it’s also available at a wallet-friendly price of $19.99. I’m looking forward to seeing what ROV comes up with next!

Price: $19.99

Dyson lights the way with new products

NEWS – When it comes to vacuum cleaners, everyone knows the Dyson name. Their V-series stick vacuums are popular simply because they work and are way more powerful than many plug-in models. I love the Cyclone V10 vacuum I reviewed last year. It has replaced my older Ball Dyson upright I used for years.

Dyson has never been a company that’s rested on its success. They are constantly updating and innovating their products and that’s not changed for 2019. Dyson has recently introduced three new products: the V11 stick vacuum cleaner, the Dyson Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan and the Dyson LightCycle desk lamp.

The Dyson V11 stick vacuum is a major update to the venerable Cyclone V10. The V11 has what Dyson calls the Dynamic Load Sensor that controls the motor position 360 times-per-second, can detect brush bar resistance and automatically change motor speed between hard floors and carpet. The Dyson V11 vacuum lets you switch easily between Eco, Auto and Boost modes. Auto mode intelligently adapts suction power between carpets and hard floors. Boost mode provides twice the suction of any cord-free vacuum for intensive cleaning of ground-in dirt. Eco mode gives maximum run time for longer cleans. There’s a built-in LCD screen that reports run time, machine performance and reminds you about filter maintenance.

The V11’s digital motor spins up to 125,000 rpm generating 20% more suction than the Cyclone V10. Battery system monitoring measures capacity four times-per-second. The V11 comes with a wall-mounted charging dock.

The Dyson V11 Animal is available for $599.99 and the V11 Torque Drive (with more accessories) is $699.99.

The Dyson Pure Cool Me is a complete re-thinking of personal purifying fan technology. Homes can be 5 times more polluted than outside air and the personal purifying fan removes 99.97% of pollutants and allergens as small as .3 microns from the air. Air flow can be easily controlled by adjusting the dome with your fingers. It features Dyson Core Technology—a way to project a precise stream of air. Filters are easy to replace and the purifying fan even reminds you when to do it. It comes with a remote for easy out-of-reach control.

The Dyson Pure Cool Me is available for $349.99.

Finally, the Dyson Lightcycle task light uses time, date and GPS-driven algorithms to continually adjust color temperature and brightness in relation to local daylight. “Our bodies can be influenced by daylight’s changing spectrum of color and brightness. So our new light adjusts with the daylight where you live,” says Jake Dyson, Chief Lighting Engineer at Dyson.

We spend up to 90% of our time indoors, yet poor lighting can affect our eyes and even our well-being. Even if you don’t notice it, low light, glare or flicker can cause eye strain. The Lightcycle provides more than 1000 lux brightness, combined with glare protection and low optical flicker‎ to help reduce this eye strain.

A free Dyson Link app continually communicates with the light to adjust for time, location and daily routine. There is both a desk and floor model available and are priced at $599.99 (desk) and $899.99 (floor). Visit dyson.com and Amazon for more information.

Nokia Phones Sending Data to Chinese Servers without User Knowledge

With all that we know of security being breached by apps and websites that we visit, what if data wasn’t being shared through an app or website that isn’t trustworthy and was being sent through your phone without your knowledge? That’s the case with Nokia phone owners with the handsets sending data to a Chinese server without the knowledge of the owners of the phones. Nokia Phone Data Grab HMD Global first revealed a Nokia-Android phone two years ago with the Nokia 6. Several different versions of Nokia phones have been released since then, including the most recent, the Nokia 9 PureView. All of these… Read more
