There is a cool feature of Mozilla Thunderbird that allows you to use it as an Instant Messenger. You can use it to chat with your contacts on Google Talk, Twitter, XMPP and IRC. Until recently, they supported Facebook Messenger as well, but it is now discontinued. To enable chat mode, click the three-line menu icon at the top-right of your Thunderbird dashboard.
